Do we have any past players in finals , i know Zac Foot has been good for Southport , is James ding dong Bell still going at Glenelg this year ?

Belly's Glenelg take on Norwood for the chance to Threepeat against Angus Anderson's Sturt in the GF next week.

Edit: Marty Mattner is the coach of Sturt (17 wins and 1, last round loss) who will be short-priced favourites whoever they meet.

Thanks Nool as always , where can you watch the Bays and Norwood ?
Zac Foot with 17 possies to HT for Southport who are smashing Frankston , he's maybe a rookie chance some say

SANFL required a subscription ($90) this year which is disappointing... I refuse to pay to watch any TV.
Your ol' mate AI suggests all finals games are free on 7plus so I dunno. Surely the Grand Final 2.30pm next Sunday is.

I liked Zac Foot. I was seeing lots of ressies games live back then and I preferred him over JMac by quite a way.

Not saying he would have done more at AFL level, and he has been a little up and down this year, but I liked that he rolled his sleeves up every week and threw himself into it.

Had an outstanding game today and in to the GF against the Hawks or Footscray , he's had a consistent season

SANFL GRAND FINAL

SUNDAY 21st SEPTEMBER 2025

STURT V GLENELG

This has a Seans feel. MARTY MATTNER is coaching Sturt. He has coached an almost perfect year. Only lost the last game of the season.

STURT won all matches this season;

STURT 10.13=73
GLENELG 9.11=65
(UNLEY OVAL)

GLENELG 9.13=67
STURT 13.9=87

STURT 15.12=102
GLENELG 8.12=60

At this stage Sturt are unbackable favourites. It doesn't help that Glenelg have injury problems. Max Cloud, the 2023 Premiership Captain is out. But JAMES BELL will play. STURT are the younger side by a long way. They gave developed a strong side by developing juniors. Glenelg on the other hand have had lots of players return from the AFL teams either after their careers had finished or they were delisted. Players like;

Jarryd Lyons
Liam McBean
Luke Parting Ron
Corey Lyons
Jachie Hosie
Luke Reynolds
Plus recruiting Bell.

But Sturt do have the 2025 Magary Medalist, Tom Lewis. They recruited Casey Voss
Will Snelling
Marty Fredrick
The rest are pretty well home grown Sturt Zone product. They have a very good junior program plus a very good coach.

We might like to poach him back to the Swans lol. I am a Glenelg Bays supporter. My grandfather coached Glenelg Reserves and 3 Senior games. My uncle Jack Owens was Full Forward in the 1934 drought breaking Premiership. But on Sunday I won't be picking the Bays. I can't see how they can possibly win. Sturt won by 42 points in the Semi. Bays gave not beaten them this year. There is at least 18 points to make up and on the last showing 42.

I think Marty has the opportunity to do much better than go through a season undefeated. He has the chance to coach a Premiership. But he needs to veware tThe Fox, Darren Reeves. He stole the Grand Final from Norwood last year. Glenelg came from 4th and Norwood were hot favourites. So, never take Bays for granted in the Bug one. Almost every time they gave played the first final and lost then won the Grand Final.

MARTY OR BELLY

MAKE YOUR MIND UP. HAVEE A GREAT GAME

GO THE DOUBLES!

MartyM is a lovely bloke. He's always very happy to stop & have a chat with the fans. Got a great sense of humour. Did a SA Swans Supporter group event a few years ago which was great. He gives back to the footy community & the Swans faithful... So while I'm not a huge Sturt fan I can't help but cheer Marty & the double blues on.

Glenelg have had success last season. Belly was best on... time to give the young kids a crack. And Sturt have been the best side all season. They deserve it.

I wonder whether Marty has ambition to be an AFL head coach or whether he prefers a less stressful life. Either way good luck to him. One of our best.

Why the lol? I know we previously gave Marty a go as development coach soon after his career ended but why wouldn't we consider re-employing him if he has proven his worth and gained more experience in the 10 years since we last worked with him? The question is whether he would be willing to return to NSW when he is presumably well settled in Adelaide.

I love this bit:

"I was a reluctant starter. Dad enticed me to go for a kick with him, but coincidentally, the local team was training, and he'd set it up with the coach to come over and invite me across. It was one of those situations you couldn't back out of because I didn't want to be rude," Roberts-Thomson said.

🤣🤣

While quite different, it reminds me of Micky O talking about his reaction to being drafted to the Swans (horror! despair! literal tears).

Easily one of my favourite players I have ever watched in the Red & White & as time goes by watching the current crop of front running spoon fed softies, I grow fonder & fonder of this bloke's efforts for our club.
LEGEND along with Jude, ROK & Goodesy.
All dual p'ship players of the Swans.
4 of the best ever!

Pat Veszpremi in a grand final this week for Nyah Nyah West near Swan Hill , has had more clubs than Gren Norman
Will be able to attend so many past players functions , absolute mercenary
Not sure why he couldn't hold down a spot - he had a footy brain.
