If Merrett doesn’t attend the B&F I don’t see how they can’t trade him.

I reckon Merrett has asked for a trade before and they refused and know his gone full blown nuke!
On second thoughts, maybe the bombers President like a few players wants out too

And that would do it ! Lol

Can’t blame him.

I'm confident we will walk away from anything that is more than 2x first rounders.
I suppose the situation always plays a part but based on the player it should really be the starting point. An early one and a late one. After bids and compos in ends up being 12/13 and a pick past 20.

asking for three sh0uld well and truly be in play. Knowing full well Hawks look likely to be finals bound over the next few years,

We are only 2 years into a 10 year period of contending. See our history: https://afltables.com/afl/teams/hawthorn/season.html

We don’t rebuild, play or trade for 1 flag, we build, play and trade for 10. We are not going throw away our future for a short term solution. Our great players have multiple premiership medals, not 1.

Merrett is a great player, leader and consistent performer. But at 30 he’s not worth 2 first round picks.

Only way we are trading two firsts, is to get a F2 back.

3x first round picks with the knowledge Hawthorn will be contending for the next few years

Pick 8 + 2026 first + 2027 first

I would somewhat be ok with that. Tassie or not, we'd be holding extra first round picks. A death ride would be fun too.

in all seriousness, a third party will need to get involved. I think pick 8 + a 2026 first + a best 22 would be sufficient. Even if said player was around the 16 - 22 on the list
He is about to turn 30 and you think 3 first round picks is his value? Looks like he is staying a bomber then.

Brad maybe not, but it would be an agreed plan between Zach and his manager. I cant imagine managers unilaterally ruining relationships at clubs.

For those thinking its Mitchell, we are equally into Petracca but no noise at all.

The ironic part is for all the differences in merrett and petracca the one thing they both have in common is their clubs aren't trading them this year

Show us historically another 30yo who has cost this much in a trade? Then we can talk! Look up recent trades of the last 5yrs of someone same age etc and that will give you a guide as to what you will get!

So am I. Which makes me wonder why merretts manager has pulled this stunt because he knows essendon wont deal him for that price.

if we want to go down the draft value index points way;

preface this by saying Hawks look likely to contend as part of finals for next little while. Means we're starting at likely pick pick 11

so we're likely getting
pick 11 = 1,205 points
pick 11 = 1,205 points
Carlton's pick 8 = 1,443 points

Now is Zac Merret worth pick 1 + pick 17 worth of picks? Id say that is fair enough. Ive been told enough Hawks back themselves in to get the job down. Get this job done. Unless Ward, McDonald or McKenzie are coming, im not really interested in Hustwaite, we have enough butchers of the ball so dont want Weddle.

Hawks shouldn’t be getting him for any less than probs an early first, late first, and maybe a swap from 2nd to 1st round or a solid young depth player

At best I think the landing spot will be around 2025 Carlton / Hawks 1st and Worpel Compo or Blues 2nd and Reeves.

Or two first round picks …!

Has a 30 yo of this quality asked for a move under contract before? What would Bont be worth in a trade? It’s not really an area we’ve been in before.

Age not on his side but you’re also targeting a genuine superstar and club captain.

Can’t see Essendon back flipping either. They’re the sort of club that would stand their ground on this even if the logic suggests to cash him in.

HH has fine skills! It’s his speed that needs work…

Brownlow caliber player. Age obviously not on his side but he’s easily worth 2 early firsts and a pick swap or player.
Nah there's never been a deal anywhere near that for a 30+ year old.

You're saying MORE than two EARLY firsts PLUS a player?
Nah - would be by far the biggest deal of all time for someone aged 28+ and I can't see that happening.

You mean they will cut their nose off to spite their face…. Yeah that’s worked so well for them so far…. It’s why their in this mess!

Merrett is somewhere 15th to 20th in the midfield. Bont is top 3.
