I’m seeing different numbers here, but can a Hawthorn fan talking down Merrett’s value please name the 10+ midfielders that you’d take before you take Merrett? For a couple of seasons? I really can’t see how people are ignoring the fact that he’s one of the best midfielders in the league, a consummate professional and on-field role model, leader, etc. The only people going past him are your Bonts, Daicos’, etc. He’s immediately your best player

Considering we’re likely to have 2 other top 10 picks, I’d honestly hand over 2 for Merrett and a late pick back or something. If you think that that’s a bad move for us you (I wouldn’t blame you) clearly haven’t watched any of the eagles this year. Professionalism, Leadership, an actual capable mid to help Harley. Would trade OA comp for Merrett and steak knives in a heart beat

That’s not how it works, the team might get more votes but he has better players taking votes from him. It’s why mid table teams always have brownlow winners because they win half their games and have no one to take votes from them. Watson, cripps, wines, Priddis all fine examples of guys who had great years but probably weren’t the best players in the league
