yes an no.

I wanted usto get after silvagni and draper. to help cover off our lack of real tall forwards and mobile follower rucks and for cover for tallish defenders who are good one on one.
Covering over for both TMc and for a pure interceptor Lever.

Leaving us to go to the draft for more mids and running players... plus to dabble for special skilled types.
Silvagni turns 28 this year though. I thought you wanted young players? IMO we're fine for key backs as along as Petty goes back there. Next year we could have Petty, Turner and Howes as our trio of tall backs, add in the possibility of Derksen too, and Lever as the older leader. Tall backs are fine, no need to pay over a million for a very average 194cm back in Salvagni.

This year's draft is trash, and this is a team we could field next year with ONLY current 25 and unders (a few NQRs marked):

B: McVee, Petty, Howes
HB: AMW, Turner, Bowey
C: Lindsay, Rivers, Culley
HF: Chandler, JVR. Kozzy
F: Henderson, Kentfield, Sharp
R: Heath, Windsor, Langford
IC: Derksen, Tholstrup, Mentha, Sparrow

Add in a small forward and a flexible mid in the 22-25 year old age group and that's a really solid group IMV.

No offence but that forwardline is absolute ass. Especially since Kozzy plays more midfield now.

Rest looks solid.

Don't disagree as such - and you may notice the ones in bold who I marked as NQRs where we can improve the list.

But fix that midfield and the cycle starts to break with our delivery and leading patterns. Don't need gun key forwards to win the flag. There's really only 1 gun key forward left in this years finals. (I personally class Gunston and Morris as mid-sized forwards).

More pointing out that our current 25 and unders are a solid group and we don't need to be hitting the draft hard now. Keep topping up, but don't need to be trading into the draft. Focus on skillful 22-25 year olds and we're way better set up.

Think one of our big issues with our forwardline was Goody had them all running to half back to defend. So when we rebound, it’s hard to lead at a midfielder when your still 65m away from goal trying to get forward on the rebound so our blokes were always running toward goal instead of at our mids.

I agree with you. I actually think our list isn't that bad at all. Just need to fix the makeup of the midfield and have a modern game plan with a flexible game day approach (swinging forwards back and vice versa is not it).

We are in agreement there my new best friend. It also exacerbated the issue of our forwards always leading towards goal, making it even more of a habit.

Think we're maybe 2-3 really key (probably big) decisions away from being not bad again.

Well ****, supposedly King has Trac and Oliver in his best 25
What did you expect Guerra to say, though?

"Nah, he hates them and the first thing he'll be doing is trading them." Guerra just said (in response to a direct question) what all execs/FD would – they're contracted, they're a part of our future etc. As soon as the league knows you're actively trying to trade players, their price torpedoes.

Not saying we will trade them, just saying that response meant nothing really.

The past couple of seasons they’ve been performing at around probably 40-70% of what they are capable of. Goodwin couldn’t correct it in what was probably the biggest contributing factor to his demise.

If King can get their performances back up to even close to what they were when they signed those monster deals it will go a very long way in this club climbing back up the ladder again.

I suspect there is work to be done in terms of Trac and Clarry. No doubt if on the list they are best 22. I was thinking Trac be off to hawks but now Merrett seems to have that spot. I’d only see him going to a contender and a bigger club. So he may well stay out. Clarry definitely played a lot better towards the end of the season but not sure anyone is jumping for him. We’d certainly have to wear some money if he moves.

Of course King would have Trac and Oliver when he was asked during who his best 25 players were lol

Doesn’t mean he won’t look to trade either of them, or they push themselves.
Hawks: "We'll give you a 4th rounder for Trac"
Dees: "Lol wut?"
Hawks: "Wasn't even in your best 25, soooooo...."

That exchange got a chuxkle out of me.

King will be saying Gawn is in his best 25 next, he's out of control. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE PAUL GUERRA??

Hawthorn are our template IMO. Didn't massively go to the draft, just made some tough decisions and nailed them, and got their trades and free agency right. In saying that, Mitchell's coaching and game style was the biggest shift IMO.

Best 25 is such a random number.
I was going to say best 22 plus emergencies, but that doesn't add up either with the sub lol.

Maybe Kingy plans for a Schache-type sub in perpetuity
