Recommitted Zach Merrett [UFA 2027] - Wanted a trade to Hawthorn, but it didn't get done

It's not really that far fetched
Bombers need a ruck, Hawks have Reeves as back up
It’s ridiculous.

Hawthorn are going to make a trade that works for them. That won’t include trading our best ruckman.

Don’t be fooled by the finals. We still have an absolute budget midfield. It’s just that Adelaide have even more shit trucks than us in the middle. Fix that up, then watch out!

If the Hawks want to win a flag or two before the 2020s are out it must fix this and jag at least one, preferably two, a-graders immediately. Otherwise this is just North Melbourne 2014-15 all over again.
The finals are where it matters most, and our Midfield as stood up.

what - Kelly,Green,Callaghan, Greene, Coniglio and co sub par ?
Kelly was good (very) for a quarter, I don’t think Green played much mid time, Coniglio is not the player he once was.
There is a reason List Management is pushing hard for A grade mids, after sorting out (mostly) forwards and defenders the last two years.

Matthew Jelley I’m not sure why that’s funny?

Hawthorn don’t have to trade for Merrett, they’ll give up what they deem fair, and what they think they have cover for losing.

Meek ain’t it.

When's the last time hawthorn committed to a player and walked away? genuinely curious, nothing coming to mind.

We wouldnt know. Mostly player managers dont leak until the deal is near ready.

Top 10 pick and a player

Unless Melbourne decide to release Petracca. Then the offer for Merrett drops away massively and Essendon have a captain not turning up to their B&F to get his award and keep him for another year.

Yeah if you’re meeting with the players and the coach and his wife then you are likely making a commitment to get players out and pay up. Like we have done with Neale and Dunkley etc.

Well I don't regard Hawthorn as committed at this point. Certainly well down the road, but I don't think there's an actual contract offer agreed in principle or anything.

But if they do commit to him, has it happened?

Not sure. We went through hell to get O'Meara after their idiot President decided to negotiate and ****ed everyone around for a week and ended up accepting a lesser offer.

So I'd say we would know if we made an offer.

Ultimately if Hawthorn can't deal with Essendon, Butters is a free agent after next season.

Not sure, but they haven’t committed to Merrett.
