I think Ned Moyle will be witts’s replacement
Agree, I thought that for a long time until Reads arrival.

They did talk about playing him in a Jackson/Curtain role but then just played him fwd. Maybe the Curtain wing role comes next yr. Maybe he becomes the ruck, but doesn't look it just yet.

I have heard that he's one who gets unsettled when he's not playing in the 1s so that could be why he's playing over Walter as a forward, despite being a ruckman and not a forward for most of his life.

Half the posters in here have no real knowledge of Walter but are happy to take a deal for this kid and a crappy first rounder?

We have seriously lost the plot if that’s where we are at. Charlie Curnow is a superstar in his prime. You pay overs or you don’t get him. Simple as that. Humphrey, Flanders and F1 type stuff. If it’s Sydney, Gulden, or Blakey and plenty more or don’t bother.

Our standards as a club need to lift.

“Walter and F1” for Charlie ****ing Curnow 😂😂 can’t believe the shit I’ve been reading that is posted on here.

Yep thank #### some people here are not involved in player movement 🤦🏻‍♂️

No disrespect, I get we all love the club and want to see us improve, but some of us need to take off the blue glasses for a minute and think about what a good deal for Charlie looks like.

I love Charlie and at his best he’s the most entertaining player in the game. No one is saying that you trade him for under just to get him out the door, but there is some serious overestimation of what his worth is.

Charlie had a pretty average year this year. Yes, it’s because of injuries and lack of preseason, but that’s the problem - he had four surgeries this year to clean up a knee that kept him out of the game for a couple of years. Yes, he came back and was a dominant player for a few years, but there is no guarantee that he gets back there.

He’s said twice he wants to stay - both times where when he couldn’t avoid the media. It’s what he has to say because he knows that he probably can’t get out of his contract, and he probably does have to come back next year. But he doesn’t want to be here next year.

He has told the club, face to face, I’d be happy to play somewhere else. He’s met with an opposition coach. He’s authorised his manager to leak meetings and spread stories, or at the least hasn’t shut him down. He jetted off overseas and hasn’t posted a socials message trying to shut this down.

A deal probably can’t be done, as yes, we will want overs. But overs for Charlie isn’t as high as you all seem to think. He’s 29 at the start of next season, has a pretty significant injury history and is coming off a down year. The multiple first rounders is fanciful. So is all the first choice Swans and GC players, as is Butters.

A ‘win’ in a trade sense is a deal that improves both teams. It’s not about the picks, points, or players - it’s about coming out as a better team. Adelaide went from 15 to 1 this year adding 3 best 22 players that weren’t big names - the kind of players folks around here would turn their noses up at. Same folks who still think we didn’t get enough back for Kennedy last year because he did alright in a team that still missed finals. Charlie for Walter, and someone else in the 23-26 age bracket would be a more than fair deal that improves both teams.

I don’t have my head in the sand, but I’m realistic about what a good deal for us could look like. I think the most likely option is that Charlie stays - mainly because the club knows that they have to be seen to ‘win’ to keep members happy, and a deal like that is too hard. I doubt he will ever play at the level he did a few years ago with us, but he’s still box office when he’s on. It’s either that or a deal that everyone here hates, but actually improves us in the long run. No matter what we do, half of us are going to say we did the wrong thing.

Walter should be the starting point for any negotiations. GCS are getting more depth of quality young players through their academy and ND, and the reality is that they won't be able to hang onto them all - similar to GWS.

They won't want to let Walter go obviously, so they have the choice of getting Curnow in for a tilt at a premiership, or wait another few years until these youngsters are hopefully reaching their potential.

I agree with another poster that Charlie and a future 3rd in exchange for Walter and a future 1st would be fairly close. They need their selections for their academy players this year, we need points for Cody next year.

Of course most people would think we're getting ripped off, but if the club are happy to move Charlie on, I don't think we should expect much more.
They can upgrade our TDK pick for pick 6 in a swap for Charlie also, basically gains us a pick this year before Dean plus F1 and walters for Charlie

We were essentially sacking him though. He didn’t want to leave.

Very very different to Charlie with 4 years to go on his contract.

Fev had 2 years to go as well...

Charlie wants to leave... you think we're really going to keep a player with that attitude? Only if the offers are Florent + #12 type of insulting...

End of the day, you rarely ever see a superstar traded for another superstar... in fact, I can't even recall it happening... if you can, name that trade.

It's just not how it works. Clubs who trade in a star aren't going to jeopardise what they've already got by getting rid of one of their own established stars.

Even we, didn't want to let go of any of our established best players for Judd... despite the Eagles "demanding" that for an out of contract Judd...

Walter is a pick 3 with massive potential. And that 1st rounder next year will be very valuable if we're chasing another good player... you need trade capital to bring in better players, a 2026 1st rounder is just that.

But Curnow does want to leave.
And despite what some supporters might want, a professional football department making decisions for the good of the collective and with “Carlton First” as a mantra, will most definitely take that into account …

Again, we were forcing Fev out. The opposite of trying to keep Charlie, and it dramatically changes the trade price.

How many superstars are traded mid contract?
Especially when there’s no extenuating circumstances?

They’ll take it into account as in there’s a possibility it will happen, rather than none if he didn’t want to leave.
It’s not going to lower his trade price though.

Wow, you still actually think we want to keep Charlie...

So this whole "Carlton first", "No BS", "If you don't want to be here, leave" is all nonsense right?

This is an extenuating circumstance ffs, the guy wants to leave...

And you can't name that trade can you?

They didn't trade Thilthorpe in the process, or they would have stayed 15th.

Fev loves this club. The players did the wrong thing by him, the footy show handing him the microphone when he was so drunk and setting him up for failure. Instead of looking after him and putting him to bed, they all turned on him.

yes he had a bit of growing up to do but he loves this club. Should have better looked after him.

Charlie wants out. Fev didnt want out.

If Charlie has met with other coaches then he can go. He's not interested.

If GC decide they want Curnow, they won’t come to the table empty handed.
You only need look back as far as last year to see they’re prepared to pay for their man …

I'd totally forgotten about that!! Gotta love the bonus free wins back in the day.
Take 50cents to the shop, a Sunny Boy and a few packs of Footy cards (with chewing gum!) and off I went.
What a simple life. I kinda miss it.
Flicks for footy cards, closest to the wall or card stands on wall for win…
Lee Street primary school, mates or then anywhere else there was a challenge…
