2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

I was building houses in Tranmere in the early to mid noughties, when the snow was down to 400 m and the westerly was blowing across the Derwent I would have chase the saw horses around the work platforms lol.
Driving across the causeway from Midway point heading towards Hobart and getting hit by wave crests is a another memory that possibly only Dementia in old age will be able to remove lol.
People state the fact we are the second driest capital city in Australia as the rationale for no roof. Whilst that is true, when winter hits the air is wet and dew settles almost every night.
Add to the fact that the roaring 40s wind gets up in August, so it can be windy and damp, particularly near the waterfront. So a roof is definitely a good option.
It is a nice place though. I promise.

Peter Ryan & Marc McGowan - The Age

Heath is taking a 3 year deal at the demons. They were the first of several clubs to come after him. He sees his path to being a number 1 ruck easiest at Melbourne behind Gawn.

Trade required.

Good mates with Windy and trying to leverage that. However Windhager wants to stay with the Saints. His future should be sorted by early next week.

They really want Flanders and King is a big fan, he has already spoken with him. But he will Meet with the 4 vic clubs to pitch to him what his future would look like with them.

Once again other clubs rate our players higher than we do. Most of the forum were calling for Heath to be delisted last year, I would have backed him in to fill the Boyd role. How did that end up for all you doubters.

Moose might not become a super star but he is and always was twice the AFL ruckman Boyd was ever going to be.

Likewise Battle people were happy to see him walk out, well how has that turned out for you all. He is now an All Australian CHB and is considered one of the best trades for the year.

Then the uneducated raise Tauru, well he might become a decent player but physically he is a long way off (years) ever hoping to fill a key positional role. As I've said before losing Battle was the dumbest thing the club have done since SOS was made list manager. Shortly followed by wasting a list position on Boyd.

We would already had conversation with Flanders and his management. The risk is Steven King was at Gold Coast and probably have a close relationship with him. But we can basically offer Flanders a crack at our 1st option midfielder (Macrae is old and can support, Steele looks to move). That's better than Melbourne who will still have Oliver and Viney ahead of him even if Petracca moves.

Not one of those clubs were offering him a #1 ruck role.

It’s effectively the same role as he had here. Behind true #1 rucks and he is being given 3 years to try and get himself to standard for the role.

Nothing like you are making out

Really have to worry about the mentality of some on here that even thinks that's funny , if that was Nas getting cleaned up you would all be going mental and sooking like there is no tomorrow

Yeah, I loved Jimmy but that clip doesn't improve with time. Absolute dog act and as you said if it was Zurhaar picking of Sinclair or something we'd still want justice.

Flanders wouldnt be keen on hearing they want to play youth. id say he would only be changing teams if they are going forward, not backward

Flanders is 25 not 35 so if he thinks there is a midfield spot for him and King spells out a short sharp refresh maybe he gets seduced. King apparently a big influence on him from his time at GCS. Melbourne have done pretty well drafting hard for life after the current crop.

I understand young rucks going for opportunity still. With sides really only playing one senior ruck it leaves a lot of guys sitting as a back up. He probably has to go now or he's getting Tom Campbelled.

Battle was a self inflicted wound that we weren't able to reverse back on. A lot of people on here think you can find ready made talent on the cheap. Tauru either ends up a master stroke or a disaster. At the moment we are taking a hard hit in our backline and had to pay a huge amount to make up a replacement who is yet to show if they are as good.

Heard it all now, Heath is as big a loss as Battle 🤣🤣🤣🤣
There is a reason Tom Campbell has had 12 seasons in the show at 4 or 5 clubs, he is a backup ruckman.
Also why an incredibly average footballer in Stanley has had 15 seasons as Geelongs first ruck.
Heath was lucky to get 4 games this year and will be battling with Campbell to take Gawns spot if he gets injured.
No loss really, we have TDK, Keeler can ruck, Dodson at a pinch for a few games and if disaster happens we get a ruck at MSD.
To die on the Heath hill as some sort of moral superiority to the rest of us is very funny.

I dont really agree.

Someone saying 50-60% payrise is too good to refuse is an absolutely nothing comment. Shes right, it is too good to refuse.

Her job isnt to understand the nuance of trade deals and shit, shes just saying (apparently) "thats real good money".

Thats it.

I dont even know if she wants him to take it, personally id imagine she would probably be saying "you cant ignore that money but also, its your job and your career".

Id imagine my wife would talk about it with friends, id be disappointed if it got leaked from that but also, meh, its such a nothing comment.

Weve gotta remember that whilst we all care deeply about the club Cal isnt and wasnt a saints supporter, he might deeply care about the saints but it is still his job and his employer. Hed be idiotic to dismiss an offer like this without considering it, that doesnt make him some Panto villain, nor does it make his wife.

Ill accept that she probably should have been more considered in her discussions but thats such a minor indiscretion it doesnt warrant some keyboard warriors demeaning her.

The talk was he'd got offers for $1.1 million a year over 4 years and they were prepared to let him talk them upwards from there. He's currently on $750k x 2. Could end up nearly doubling his income and guaranteed long term tenure at top dollar.

If he didn't take the call he'd be like some kind of self flagellator that sacrificed himself for the good of the fans of the SKFC.

Don’t care what they do, but if merrett refuses to walk back through the door, it doesn’t mean Essendon should let him leave for peanuts. Keep him for another year and tell hawks they’ve got 1 more year to get a worthy trade together.

If they didn’t want to be held to a contract, they shouldn’t sign a long contract.

Again, where's the accountability for the club?

"Zach, we know it's been tough but with Brad coming in, plus the additions of Gresham, McKay & Duursma, we expect to be back in finals in 2 years time.

Here's a contract that takes you through until you're 32. We will have 2-3 years of finals before that's done.

Whaddaya say?"

And what do you expect from Zach for the next 12 months?

Realistically, what's he going to do for you as a coach, as a board, as a teammate etc.

Are you going to have him speak to the media? Is. He going to appear at functions and family days? Do you try to sell merch or have him calling members?

You're paying him $1mil+ to do what?

Ironic he is going to where Campbell just re-signed.
Battle, I would say, is the worst, mistake the Bassatt/ Lyon combo has made since starting in late 22. Unlike previous administrations, they have owned the mistake and have tried to rectify the glaring problems that were exposed like the gameday experience for WAG's and families.
Losing Battle was very poor, and we suffered all season. JSOS, and hopefully Aleer and Tauru can come on but a full season exposed down back. I hated losing Battle, but was gratified the admin admits the mistake and put actions in place. Humility isn't usually demonstrated by football administrators.

Battle meant we dropped down the ladder this year, sure, but this was never going to be a year where we would genuinely contend

Our net gain for him and maybe 2 spots on the ladder this year is Tauru (with the draft pick) & JSOS (with the salary space)

JSOS when fit can cover for Battle imo

What am I making out - that he is better than Boyd and the club should have recognised that. The fact Boyd was the first delisted suggests that is right.

He is always going to be a backup ruck, but just perhaps one day he blossoms like so many ruckman in their mid 20's. That was never going to occur with Boyd.

Jsos is older and has never had a season close to Battles last two.

Both of them might cover him but either alone won’t (and that’s not me criticising the outcome).

In reality we only win that deal if Tauru turns out very very good
