2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

I think if they got Wilkie’s go ahead, they’ll offer up the young players to get it done, it won’t be easy. But Wilkie will be their messiah (they backline is rubbish), and they do have young talents coming through they could sacrifice, let’s see if it actually happens. But when there’s smoke, there’s fire.
You think let’s say 2 of, Croft Sanders Freijah will be offered up?

I would prefer to take them to a minute before the deadline and then say. No deal.

And just laugh whilst they haven’t recruited any key backs. Wasting another year of the Bont.

Fun fact, Manchester United once nearly lost their goalkeeper on the trade deadline but he couldnt go because their "fax machine broke down"
Mind you this is in 2015 as well.

They'll be desperate. Beveridge surely is under severe pressure missing finals with such a stacked side and Bont.
So, I think they'll pay overs for Wilkie in terms of players. It's a matter of how much more we can squeeze out of them, interesting times.

10000000000% agree.

And I want to add. He is so bloody raw as an actual talent. He doesn’t know what he could be capable of - this is just pure mindset that has dragged him from no man’s land at the start of his draft year to right now.

Wait until he learns what he is capable of and the confidence to apply it.

He's a project. He was very raw but his athletic profile is absolutely elite. He needs to learn the game and some limitations in his kicking will be covered by passing to better users but over all he's an outstanding prospect. That doesn't mean we didn't miss Battle or won't for a while. To make the loss of Battle work he really needs to become a better player than Josh in the future.

Only way I see this getting done is with 2 players of that quality being used.

In all due respect, you don't know how that club works. Beveridge has complete control from weak old Ameet down. Bevo is never under pressure at that club.
Just a year ago, they had a full review of the whole club, minus the coaching staff🤣🤣.
They made favourite son, Chris Grant the scapegoat and Bevo and his acolytes got off Scott free.

Signing Windy is honestly massive for the PR of the club.

  • given Spuds #2 jumper
  • part of the 2021 superdraft group
  • indigenous NGA player
  • leader of the younger brigade, possible future captain and standard setter
  • we've lost noone who we don't want to as a result of our cash splashing.

Nas, Windy and Hall being re-signed was more important than any new signings and so happy its happened now.

Edit: may as well say it in this post too, on top of those 3, signing Pou to an extension to allow him to focus on his footy without the go home media distraction is also a master-class!

I don't think people have caught up with how much he's improved yet either. He's easily our biggest improver apart from Nas and he was coming off a higher base.

I caught on watching highlights of Nas and thinking how many times the hard won footy was Windhager going in like a maniac or dishing it off as he ran past.

I think people are going start to catch on to how much of the absolute grunt work he does soon.

Wilkie isn’t going anywhere. He is to
Important to us. Bulldog them selves prove how important a good key back is.
They have the best midfield in the comp and still finished 9th.
Remember, nas only signed for two years so we need to go for it now. Trading Wilkie would ruin our ability to contend and make nas sign on with us worthless.
We probably re do his contract but he isn’t leaving.

Good stuff on Windy.

Also says we are interested in Cam Mackenzie and meeting with Sam Flanders next week.

Rowan Marshall hasn’t requested a trade. Is not about whether he wants to go. It’s about whether the saints would actually trade him. It will be about picks in return.

Ive said this a few times as well since he embarrassed Viney in the last quarter of that Dees game. He has an obvious special connection with Nas in there.

I hate the precedent this is setting. Whats the point of contracts if players can threaten to break them after one phone call?
Might as well pay these blokes on pro rata rate at this point

Henry, Pou and King are all effectively new recruits next year.

Added to TDK, JSOS, Aleer possly Flanders and C-Mac.

I still think its probably too much change but its a good problem to have.

I reckon we've almost moved past Henry. He's really wing/HHF and Hall and Windhager have probably overtaken for those spots and with Ryan coming in and Garcia performing things are getting tight. Hill maybe phased out potentially if he performs better but he was so far back in the VFL he looks like he's going to struggle to get back and leap frog others. Even Collard looked ahead of him.
