You may very well be right, but losing a ruck & full forward and centre half back in the one year is going to hit us hard in the short term without adequate replacements.
lt is certainly going to be a tough year for Voss.
JSOS will be the most difficult to cover. We have a lot of forward options, and pitto is good enough to carry the load, especially if HOK is played forward.

Doc did leave Voss at Brisbane, so maybe like many here, he just doesn’t rate him as a coach and like us, thinks the club botched our list management th past few years.
Vossy had already been sacked after round 20 of that season. There was some talk at the time that Doc might've stayed if Vossy had been retained.

So I watched the snippet.

He's unhappy we didn't win a flag because we didn't go "all in" whilst he was still there?

And if we went all in and still didn't win, then what? You know flags are tough to win at the best of times. Say we went all in and still bombed, then have no youth / picks and a bloated cap, then what?

Pies loss yesterday has them staring at the precipice now.

The decision to play in the final after the ACL and now these comments just reinforces the view that Doc is selfish.
He wanted to win a flag, that’s the right kind of selfish

All a little bit too late when the big-money earners didn’t show up, injured, or exorcised plus the pillars of the club had crumbled c/- Pres’s photography.

Stability will assist. New team formed and GW has had some time to assess.
Club direction seems to be set.
New coaches…(?)
Buy-in now required.
Skills and fitness/HP a pre-season priority focus.
Yep agree. Much more player accountability needed. And yes hopefully new people across the footy department help

ments and you find the player to be bitter about him maybe being forced out, then that’s fine, I cam see why negative comments would in that instance cause people to lose respect.
Out of contract for them.

Ash Johnson, is a player I rate who has had a terrible run with injury. Would be a good option as third tall forward who can provide backup for our key forwards.

Curnow, McKay are our only key forwards now. We have a couple of medium ones in Kemp and Moir but he provides something deffernt to them. Could be a cheap get in an area of need for us. Kind of killed us this year with McKay and Curnow being unavailable or out of form/playing injured for a lot of the season, Lemmy unable to make the level and having no one else.

Mihocek would play the same role but would cost more and be harder to get out of there so probably not. Cox, much the same. Would only have a need for them if Curnow is moved on. I don't think he will be, but if he is, that means we need to bring in 2 AFL capable key forwards and this would bring guys like these into the discussion.

Elliott you won't get.

Tom Mitchell, probably not quite the right type of midfielder or age for us but will be interesting to see what they do with him. If he can get fit, he's a brownlow medalist, probably an upgrade on someone like Cerra, a move like this could see us push Cerra to a wing which I am all for. He's 32 so not sure if his career is about done or he just had a poor year. I think they will be trying to sign him to a short contract and he will look elsewhere for a longer one. I'd be hesitant and we should have plenty of other targets before coming to this point so he is probably a no but only after considering a few key points. If he comes cheap and on a short contract, if he ends up on the scrapheap then we should think about it, if his body is fine.
you forget HOK

I’d do a deal for both, Humphrey & Petracca.

GC > Curnow
Melb > TDK Pick
Carl > Humphrey & Petracca (Melb cover some of his wage) & Flanders

Humphrey & Petracca - Alternate between forward and midfield

FB: Newman - Weitering - Haynes
HB: Flanders - Cowan - Carroll
C: Chesser - Cripps - Walsh
FOL: Pittonet - Lord - Petracca
HF: Humphrey
- HOK - Williams
FF: Evans - McKay - Khamis
B: Cerra, Smith, Kemp, Hewett, Moir
Flanders only wants to leave GC because he wants to be a starting midfielder.

How about we relax a bit?

He’s an elite athlete, he’s a competitor who wants to win. Competitors don’t know when to lie down either, he’s not immune from that.

He’s absolutely entitled to give his own perspective, he should be able to without fans turning on him if it’s not what we want to hear.

Also absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to win a flag, few of his former teammates could learn a lesson.

A bit unfair with the last comment, Russell has said lately that Doc had ticked every box and passed every test to play that game and he was super confident in that call, what’s interesting is that he didn’t mention the other returning injured players who were picked, Doc was also one of our best players that night and lastly the coach picks the team, a player can only do their best to put themselves in a position to be picked.

At some stage every club has to go all in for a flag, it feels Geelong keep topping up their list and falling short but they keep presenting and who knows what will happen, plenty of clubs go all in and fail, we need to actually put ourselves in a position to fail to succeed and take some risks.

Geelong added Smith and Martin, they are two decent risks right there and they might get another flag.

He really wasn't, but he certainly tried despite having absolutely nothing resembling match fitness.

TDK was bizarrely managed that night.

Adding Martin won’t be the reason they win a flag

Our maths must be pretty ordinary in the back room. Or again, we’re overpaying everyone and overestimated our playing list.

We must have a bucket load of cash freeing up for a 2026 strike.
I think we’ve been a little bit a victim of circumstance with the big contracts we’ve had to offer.

We’ve had some young, prodigiously talented, key position players who’ve demonstrated an ability to be match winners as they’ve come out of contracts. The whole point of bottoming out was so we could draft these types of players so you don’t just let them go when they’re hitting their peak.

Other clubs have been willing to offer a king’s ransom so you can only low ball them so much in order to keep them.

Unfortunately we’ve gotten nowhere near the reliable, match winning standards you’d expect from players on these contracts for various reasons.

And then match committee are somewhat hamstrung at selection when you’ve got a player like Curnow putting in half hearted efforts but the next bloke in line is a kid that is nowhere near AFL standard. So you keep picking Curnow which erodes any pretence that adhering to team first standards is necessary to get picked every week.

It’s been a disaster to not capitalise on the prime Cripps years at all.

No club is being serious.
GW and Davies should be taking this as a line in the sand moment.
Accept anything less than what’s best for us and we’ll be a laughing stock and set a dangerous precedent to any other disgruntled contracted player in the future.
No club can be serious yet. Trade period is a month away, that's when we'll see what clubs are actually willing to give up.

Right now of course everyone of worth is off the table, why tell everyone a month in advance at "actually, we are completely falling over ourselves to trade for him and will give Gulden up to get him!"

It's normal, and expected, that everyone plays hard to get until it actually matters. This time last yr both Houston and Port said he was staying. Same with Barass.

Ruckman who can go forward. Not convinced he is a key forward. Could prove me wrong but I am not convinced, we will see.

I've posted it a few times, but I'm certain I saw one of the ITK's say that the club view him the other way around, as a forward who can ruck and will develop him that way.

I'm certain that's what I saw written here, unless I misunderstood.

I’m pretty certain it was the club itself saying this, not sure if it was GW or Voss though.
But definitely came from the club

What did Doc say exactly on the stream?

He is starting to drop little sound bites around the media circuit since he's retired, none of which are positive.

He wants to be careful not to burn the goodwill he's earnt with the supporter base and start coming across as bitter and selfish.
Or maybe we should listen to what a senior leader that's just left the club is saying about the culture?

He's not a Kane a Cornes, soundbite a minute guy. He's smart and thoughtful, he wouldn't be throwing shit without reason.

Everyone and their dog can see something had been cooked in the club, why call someone discussing it bitter and selfish? Maybe we consider what he's trying to say instead.
