It’s only a part of it of course, but if we.have no money to add quality players or even quality depth and others can, that’s a mismanagement issue from the list management team.
Then compare to Collingwood who have pendles and sidebottom who took roughly half what they could have gotten to have another crack at it and it better them a flag.

Our guys still have their hand out for more. Can't have it bothe ways.

Def the right attitude (as you'd expect from most players)

But disagree with the way he wanted us to go about it.

We were in a ****en prelim where he admitted that his poor leadership impacted the result of that game.

We didn't chase a big name in 2023 off season, but we didn't need to.. we were clear 2nd on the ladder with Sydney fading by the time we met GWS in round 17.

The fade out from there on wasn't because we didn't chase a big name, it was because of a multitude of factors including:
  • Selection integrity
  • Injuries
  • Players underperforming
His "leadership" lead to him inserting himself into an ef where it was obvious he had no business being there having missed the whole season. So what did he take from his poor 2023 leadership? Nothing.

2024 off season, had we "gone all in" and chased Houston, where would we be right now? I can tell you for a fact, it won't be in next week's gf...

He came on as sub in rd1 and contributed to costing us the game. He was a liability in the games he played this year too... Why blame that on not chasing a couple of big names?

Looks to me like he's got sour grapes that he couldn't finish his career the way he wanted to... it's sad because he did go through a lot and was inspirational how he would fight back, but the injuries had accumulated and in the end it is what it is. When you can no longer perform, you become a liability and have to call time.

Can't criticise the club for not "going all in" during trade week, without also shining a bloody big spotlight on the players who couldn't even "go all in" for 4 quarters in any given week.

I’m calling it now; Fly feels like the kind of bloke who takes rival players and coaches out for “tax-deductible” coffees … mainly so he can finally cash in that ninth stamp on his loyalty card for a free latte.
I reckon Fly is the kind of person who keeps a 5 dollar coffee receipt and puts in a claim with accounts on the same day for reimbursement

My assessment of Docherty at the moment is a man who is a little bitter at the club because they forced his retirement.

In May he said he wanted to play on, in July he announced his retirement, I think Doc was tapped on the shoulder by coaches and list management and he probably feels a bit dudded by the club.

I think in time he'll come to the realization the time was right and I would love to see him back at the club in some sort of role after he's given media a shot.
I agree with all of this except your last line. I think it’s best for both club and Doc if he does not come back to work for the club in the near term, rather maybe down the track in the years to come.

So. Dangerfield is 35.
Zorko is 37 in February.

These two shape up as the two most important players next week.

Age is overrated if they’re having an impact. I’d be ecstatic to bring in Elliott on a 2 yr deal.

There is so much value in recruiting 29+ year olds and churning them over every 2-3 years.

They’re always available every year as rebuilding clubs look to phase them out.

They come on the cheap by trade if not as free agents.

They’re great for teaching and protecting any kids coming through. They provide instant selection pressure.

Look how great Haynes was this year once he settled in, now he gets another year and is a key pillar of the back 6.

This method has proven to work over the last 15 years and clubs at the top aren’t slowing down. Would love if we took a few more risks like this.

If Doc wanted to go out on his terms and on top of things, it was last year. This year, he showed signs of his best... but a lot of time he was a pace or two off the game and was so out of touch it wasn't funny. If he'd retired last year after his comeback from his ACL, he would have been lauded as one of our all time greats. Now, as you said, he's feeling a bit bitter and dudded by the club. Give him 12 months and he'll see that he was right to retire when he did.

Good luck Jack Martin in Grand Final.
He is a good guy.

A certain GC player originally from Moe was spotted down Moe FNC watching the clubs netball premiership win. A lovely young lady he was with throughout the night has blabbed next morning that he is planning on approaching GC requesting a trade to Carlton with Curnows management for a move back home to Victoria for family reasons.
Now that's a proper rumour in the more traditional sense!!

Many happy returns … would be a great get for a couple of years

Yeah he should be, but my point was more, given where our list is at, there's no point going after him.

If we were top 4 and needing that x factor in the forward line, I'd be all for it.

By the looks of it, we're bound to finish above bottom 4 and outside the 8 against next year. Adding Elliot won't do much to change that.
