WTF do we do with Stanley? If he's fit and available then my preference would be to select him rather than going in unchanged, as I would like us to have the ability to use Blitz as a defender if we're leaking goals in Stewart's absence. But that being said, I feel like picking players with injury clouds hanging over them always backfires in Grand Finals, so there's another part of me that would err on the side of caution.

Tricky call!
I'd rather select Duncan.

He's a bit old and slow now. And we don't need his vision / kicking as much with our revamped run 'n gun midfield.

Don't need to worry about picking our way through opposition zones when Smith / Atkins / Holmes / Miers can just run the ball through.

Just my opinion
I just agree with Lethal's take on The Couch.

Blitz isn't a great tap to advantage player but he nullifies and brings the ball to ground. Atkins and Danger and even himself take over. Stanley better be trained to do the same.

Playing Lachie Neale three weeks after what was reported as a 4-6 calf injury would be something - and the QF was his first game in a month after returning from a quad issue.

Dunkley in a moonboot as the team arrived home overnight.

Pray for Jack Henry’s feet 🙏
Why do players just rehab a soft tissue in home and away but when finals come around they hop onto the hyperbaric chamber.

If it's so effective why not do it all.the time

Not a doctor, so take with a grain of salt. But my guess is that it's more a hail-Mary type thing, which is why it's not widely used throughout the season. The fact that Neale is using it now probably speaks to how desperate he is to find a way back into the team. The data on whether it heals damaged muscles faster is tenuous at best.

HBOT also comes with a range of possible side-effects, including:
  • Lung damage, including collapse of the lung
  • Fluid buildup or bursting (rupture) of the middle ear
  • Sinus damage
  • Changes in vision, causing nearsightedness, which usually goes away days to weeks after the last treatment
  • Oxygen poisoning, which can cause lung failure, fluid in the lungs, or seizures. Seizures from oxygen poisoning don't typically cause brain damage

So yeah, it's not complete hoodoo, but the data is very mixed on how much it actually does, and it comes with a range of risks. Hail-Mary move with no other options at hand? Worth a shot. But in the regular season, you would be better to rehab the injury the natural way, without any risks to your cardiovascular system, given the high-performance nature of the game.

Just having breakfast in bed, car packed + I’ll begin my trek to Geelong.

Usually stop in Finley, for sentimental reasons + for some good luck.

It’s a wonderful drive from New England. Love the drive through Pipers Creek. Similar granite country to here.

Very excited + emotional.

Every GF I’ve been to, we’ve won!*

I hope they play Neale; it's not only an insane risk because of the short turnaround from the injury, but because it occurred in his first game back from a stint of the sidelines with another injury to his quad. And Berry? Remember he dislocated that shoulder in Round 23 already. Play 'em. And Dunkley in a moon boot? I've seen sides get away with that trick on defenders and forwards, but it's a hell of a lot to expect of a mid.

So your dose of optimism is a reminder that it's going to be insanely hard to beat Brisbane ... next year.

Odds are they'll have Oscar Allen up forward, Neale, Berry, Payne, Coleman, Anesworth, Doedee, Hipwood and maybe even Link back. Sam Draper will be a bit more of a handful in the ruck.

But I'll trade getting smacked in a redemption game next year :)

Yeah I'd be staggered if he comes in. He played that one Qualifying final but the game before that was 2nd of August.

Nearly 2 months since a game he didn't get a soft tissue injury in.

Can't see it

Just heard Luke Hodge on SEN saying he’s confident Lachie will play, but questioning whether he should be the sub. When you look at how conservative we’ve been with Holmes in 2022 and Stanley this year, it seems like a huge risk.

Also though on dunkley - sounds like it was just a rolled ankle. He'll be fine

If they're trying to have a bet both ways making him the sub then he clearly shouldn't be playing.

That was a question Collingwood was having to ask themselves before the prelim regarding Howe & too a lesser extent, Hill who they opted against selecting

The last full game that Howe played was June 28, while for Hill it was a week earlier on June 21, so questions were asked if they could risk either/both of them

We saw them select Howe, but it's likely the extended time missed in terms of full games both had missed then worked against Hill earning a recall

Meanwhile, they took Pendles into a game when he was battling a groin injury on one leg before he pinged a calf on the other. At the Brownlow last night he sounded a little surprised it was the calf that went on the other leg compared with the groin injury he had been dealing with, but surely it's not that surprising as he had likely been compensating for the injury to an extent

Both those moves impact our forward line though. Just need our forwards like Close, Stengle and Mannagh to be aware of him to pressure and have our setup right so he's got very few options.
Stengle, Mannagh and Close do not give anyone space in that forward line. Zorko will be under max pressure and any mistakes he made will be punished. It will be a head to head situation. If he gets the ball, the guys up the ground have to force him to take a wide option.
