Some suggestion that Petracca to GC could be on the cards just adds fuel to the Humphrey fire I reckon. If they're in flag mode, Petracca slots straight into the HFF void left by Humphrey and makes them just as, if not more, dangerous for the next couple of years.

Petracca for Flanders in close to a straight swap? Petracca better than Flanders, but I think the relationship with the Dees has soured after last year's shenanigans, and Melbourne will do right by him as long as they get a handy player back. And that then covers the Suns for the subsequent loss of Humphrey.

So...Curnow for Humphrey. Now GC make out like bandits there, and Carlton absolutely need more, so the question becomes "How do you balance that out?". Pick 6? Pick 13? A future first to help with Walker next year? Are there other players they'd consider parting with - Ballard, Rogers? Gut feel is that it probably needs to be Picks - there are only so many players that they have that we'd want that would want us that they'd let go that hold enough value...

If we could swing it, I'd give consideration to something like Curnow for Humphrey, Rogers and [Caleb Lewis or Ned Moyle]. - Humphrey is a gun, no doubt there.
- Rogers isn't the small forward we're looking for, but I reckon he plays the Motlop/Durdin/Fogarty role better than any of them and would therefore allow us to post one of them as a more permanent forward 50 specialist.
- Need another tall if we're losing Curnow, but based on the ability of the two previous names I think we'd only be able to squeeze a solid depth/supporting type rather than a top liner. Moyle the better/more proven player, but Lewis more suitable positionally and I think has the traits to be a solid second tall at either end.

EDIT: Lewis signed an extension yesterday...probably rules him out. Does it make Ballard an option though...?

If you can only use 2 picks to match, how can they also allow a deficit?

OK, this is the AFL, logic need not apply.
Does it affect your picks next year. Lets say its a 500 point deficit. That 500 points gets taken off your first pick and moved down the order accordingly?

If I'm Harddick you can see the GC are in the window, I'd do what must be done and right now can see why the rumours of Charlie and Elliot being a want has legs. With their academy and still a very good core I'd bite the bullet, sacrifice a bit to give them a real good shot to win it in the next 2 years because right now Pies look going down, Geelongs reliance on Danger, Blicavs, Stewart, etc is close to the end, it's really Brisbane, Hawks and possibly GWS that are looking their biggest rivals.

I see Dillon quite often whilst walking to/from the office on Collins St, might have to stop and have a chat to him about some of the arsey decisions his tenure has been delivering. Unlike the giant that is Gil he's about my height so I'm not scared of being picked up and being tossed in the bin.
Go, get him!!
**at least a quick chat. We need answers.

Whilst Humphrey for Charlie is great , we also need Walter in the deal .
If/When big H goes down we’ll be in strife so need another gun tall
If that is overs flick them something back the other way

Surely Walter won’t wanna be there with King, Charlie, Read there too
Where does he fit in??

Just Humphrey in the deal weakens us…

Thoughts??

Absolutely would do this
Carlton get > Humphrey and Walter
Carlton give > Curnow and pick 10

Goldy get > Petracca, Curnow, Pick 10 (ontraded)
Goldy give > Humphrey, Walter, Flanders

Dees get > Flanders, Pick 10 (or maybe Goldy give em later first rounder)
Dees Give > Petracca

Swap Pick 10 for the JSOS compo and I reckon it looks better.

Well done Sturt, and well deserved......Marty Mattner destined to coach in the AFL one day perhaps?!!
I saw he dropped the captain or something to that affect, the captain then refused to play in the 2nds prelim to press his case and walked out.

The details might be a tiny bit off but my point here is.

Big decision, no emotion, pure focus on winning the flag and who he upset along the way.

He has a great record

I like a lot of this and I think GC have lots of options to deal but I see no point in them getting Charlie and keeping King, Walter, Reid and Moyle

Agreed. And under no circumstance should we be weakened or even have a fair deal for everyone.
We didn’t create this scenario.
We have a contracted dual Coleman medal winner. Full stop.
Charlie and by extension his management created this situation. It’s up to them to resolve it. He is not bigger than our club. Any deal has to suit and satisfy us.
If he (and his management)wants to go then stump up with overs. Convince Gold Coast to pay up or we’ll see Charlie at pre-season with his tail between his legs.

Can anyone give any scenario where Charlie to Geelong works? He has come out and said he'll take a paycut to get there, great - but how do they satisfy us?

I can't be bothered playing out hypotheticals that I'm sure someone else has already feverishly crafted!

I don’t think cats can muster a deal imo
They won’t be able to give what where after
