2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Marshall and F3 for F1 and 36.
7 for Flanders and Ryan (Gold Coast pick 31).
F2 for Aleer.

36 and 43 to the draft (= pick 29 for Fincher).

Geelongs 1st this year is as bad as a first gets so if we keep it, we may as well be next year. The other option is their 1st this year which we on trade somewhere and slide 7 back.

Talking of Flanders and VFL, I was on to him in 2022 after seeing him go insane in the VFL. His stats were off the charts. He had 10 touches in his first match then never dropped below 22 touches again. In 12 of his 18 VFL matches he had more than 30 and 7 of them were over 35. His last VFL game he had 44 touches, 8 marks, 7 tackles, kicked 2.0 and had 173 fantasy points. Taking the absolute piss.

Absolutely mental stats I've always gone back to this when looking at Cmac numbers.

Also won their time trial early last preseason before the back injury, the guy couldn't be more made for a RL led side.

Those are good numbers, didn't realise he had that good a year. Probably worth pick 7 in an average draft where our pick is downgraded anyway.
Unwanted/ unused by his club in that position. No way.
He’s obviously not worth pick 7 to them and they want a list spot.
I think we can push GC on this one.

On Gettable they said we might get Aleer in the PSD for nothing

Yeh, I’m not arguing they should cost the same thing but Flanders peak value MIGHT be 7 if he wasn’t playing out of position. Just as Macraes peak value is likely closer to first round if he played in the middle all year.

Flanders is clearly more adaptable but he’s also clearly a level below GCs current mids, just as Macrae was seen to be.

How you can argue that Macrae being forced out of his preferred position and at times in the vfl impacted his value but Flanders being forced out of his preferred position doesn’t, makes absolutely no sense.

Goldy have a contested bull in Rowell and an elite mobile tall mid in Anderson. They then have guys like Touk Miller having to play outside the midfield to let others run through there and keep getting kids in. Next year they get the most exciting looking mid in the draft Dylan Patterson and another couple. Lombard last year. Davies still on the list.

Hawks pushed out Josh Kennedy in the same situation.

You'd think if we can't sell him the best story moving forward out of those four clubs then we're doing something wrong.

The other other 3 would be odds on to have a poor 2026 and beyond.

Plus we have a gap for a mid like Flanders.

If we have indeed been chasing him since mid-season that will help too.

Pretty sure I saw a strange stat on Brownlow night, last year Roma was the top 'non midfield' vote getter last year. He's got his deficiencies in the centre circle, but he's still a very good footballer.
But we don't really need a ruckman to be active around the grounds and get votes... if they constantly lose the hit outs.

If you win the hitouts and give your mids first use AND get the ball around the ground, you're a unicorn like Max Gawn

Yes.
Hopefully TDK will allow us to have an attack first, rather than defensive first midfield. Should make a big difference.

Yep and what did Sydney pay for Kennedy? Hot tip it wasn’t a top 10 pick.

So he was there in plain sight all along? 🤔

If we got 31 back from them that is probably about right I reckon.

Pick 7 will end up pick 11-12, it's not that exciting IMO.
