Traded Brandon Starcevich - traded to West Coast as part of a 3-way trade with Brisbane and Fremantle

In the end it's fair game. Had West Coast offered something like 500-600k per year, you could argue about the trade value. But you're offering him 900k+ per year. That means you value him as a first rounder. Doesn't matter how good our club is or how many picks we have or players we have. It doesn't mean you don't pay fair value for a player.

This argument goes both ways though. Brisbane don’t value him as much as us - why not let him go for what you think is fair value? Dont answer that, it’s obvious - because we rate him higher and will pay more. But then why should we pay more than what you would let him go for?

It’s a circle and this thread has gone to shit arguing the finer points. If we rate him at 900k a year (let’s say pick 15) and you at 500k (pick 33), split the difference and we’ll pay pick 19 with a swap of later picks to make up the difference.

I think it’s overs given Brisbane should be receiving nothing, but you also hold pick 2 over our heads. We could also bid on Annable at 1, so it’s easy to see that this could turn into a messy trade.

I’m tired of arguing the minutia of this trade and can’t wait for it to be done 😅

Bit of a nothing argument, we're currently the worst team to ever exist while you guys are about to play in your third grand final in a row. Obviously we have to pay overs to attract people.

Even with that though, I suspect we would be offering less if there was no salary floor.

he plays the shutdown role at the Lions he doesn't play the running defender role we have 3 of the possible best in that role in Wilmot Fletcher and Zorko
The dumb thing is their is zero chance Starcevich will play this role at the Eagles

Im fairly settled in that he is coming in to play as a midfielder... which is sad for us

He's getting $200k uplift to leave the premier team for the team finishing last.

That the premium you need to pay to turn heads of good players in good teams.

Fair value? If the Eagles weren't letting a FA go Lions would get zero compensation due to mutliple FAs coming in. Including our ex captain.

So let's not BS with fair value for the poor Lions.

It’s a moot point re: FA composition or lack there of. The fact is that West Coast will have to make a trade, it’s in their interest to do so.

If there is any truth to the numbers being thrown around for him, West Coast offer is on the high end, either way they value him highly. He’s a quality player and person that would be an asset to the West Coast list.

It will be interesting to see where it lands in the end. It’s highly unlikely such a contract offer is made with bargain base trade capital result.

If Brisbane did get any compo for Starcevich & the offer triggers Band 1 the best they can get is either pick 18 or 17 depending on if they win tomorrow or not.

It's a 2 horse race so even if they match anything another team might offer has no say on it. He either stays with Brisbane or goes.

So the fair price would be the eagles 2R currently pick 19. It's a fair price and Brisbane basically get what they would have got from the comp system if they didn't match. Being the first pick of the second night also has extra value.

So 20 bucks on Danger to win the North Smith it is then :p
it really depends on he's role personally the player we're missing the most is answerth who i'd back in over danger

People always say stuff like this every single trade period and it never actually works like that in real life

Starcevich is out of contract, if the AFL don't give West Coast a bonus pick at the start of the second round he'll be traded for their second rounder anyway

Out of contract means absolutely nothing when the eagles can't bring him in as a free agent because they will lose pick 2 and they can't walk him to the PSD, because he would go to the national draft. The eagles can only get him if they trade the lions; therefore, his value is worth more.

If we give you pick 19 and bid with Annable on pick 1 you actually end up with nothing so what does it matter ?

Go right ahead, because we will match it and Annable will get a huge bonus for being the #1 draft pick. Meanwhile, you can tell the actual player you'll get with your first pick how he wasn't your first choice. I'm sure that will change the culture problems at your club.

If you are genuinely expecting the Eagles to trade a first round pick for Brandon Starcevich (that isn't an end of first rounder gifted by the AFL) you are just setting yourself up to be disappointed

No, i'm expecting the eagles to be gifted an end of first rounder from the AFL, which will be given to us.

Even a pick 2 over 3 bid is worth 300 points or the equivalent of pick 37.

Brissy will take what they’re given and smile about it.

We will never know due to the Allen and compo factor.

Best result is the AFL throw the Eagles an end of 1st round priority pick to trade and it goes to the Lions.

Personally, Id walk him to the PSD if the Lions refused a 3rd rounder. If Starcevich didnt like that thought then dont bother, stay at the Lions on less money or look elsewhere. As a player he is a nice to have. Not a must have.

Lol. Huge bonus?

Or the pressure of being pick 1.

Im sure the kid would be well compensated.
