Traded Brandon Starcevich - traded to West Coast as part of a 3-way trade with Brisbane and Fremantle

Doesn’t matter how many times Eagles fans threaten this, it’s still not possible to do. He’d go to the National Draft
You are mistaken. That is only for a matched bid which he refuses to accept. All WC would have to do is not make an RFA offer. He then refuses Brisbane's contract. Free to go into the PSD.

if west coast are going to heck him around he's better off signing the 4 year deal for less money at the Lions

So he's supposed to gamble his future under the assumption West Coast will do the right thing. If I was a player that wouldn't fill me with confidence.

It might play to our advantage actually- Starce will likely go here's my current club dealing with me straight up and my new destination already trying shady stuff and asking me to gamble my future in order to suit them. I don't want to be part of this, would rather stay.

We will never know due to the Allen and compo factor.

Best result is the AFL throw the Eagles an end of 1st round priority pick to trade and it goes to the Lions.

Personally, Id walk him to the PSD if the Lions refused a 3rd rounder. If Starcevich didnt like that thought then dont bother, stay at the Lions on less money or look elsewhere. As a player he is a nice to have. Not a must have.
People thinking the AFL should gift Brisbane pick 19 after getting Allen/Draper for free is hilarious

How likely it is and the implications are irrelevant. My point was that this idea he had to go into the main draft was wrong. There was no scenario where it was going to happen. Brisbane aren't going to match the bid, and in a wild scenario where they did he would just stay.

Also is this 900k a year now cannonised? Surely even WC aren't doing that. A deal that has a year peaking at 900k I could believe. But averaging that? Madness.
Eagles are desperate for a good luck story offering that makes Brandon think long term We have offered him 4 years on lesser money deal also you can't lower the contract they scrapped it when Joey signed with the Lions

We wont be making a bid for them to match. It will be Starcevich requesting a trade and us either doing a deal or having Starcevich sign no deal at all. He doesnt have to nominate for the AFL draft because he has previously been listed. The rule that you MUST apply for the national draft is only for players who have never been on a AFL list before

All Starcevich has to do is remain uncontracted til the pre season draft which is what will happen if a trade isnt done anyway

If Brisbane don't match, West Coast pick 2 would be diluted. If we match - he has to go in main draft, PSD is out of picture. West Coast would want to trade in this situation than make an offer.

There is no goodwill scenario where Starce just sits on the sideline hoping for a deal later which West Coast may or may not offer. There are no guarantees at that point and no written contract for West Coast to follow through.

If I was the player I would want my future secured during trade period.

If it plays out this way, it may improve our chances of retaining him.

For arguments sake, if West Coast gets interest from say Warner this off season - they'll drop Starcevich like a rock and run after him. Whatever offer on the table for Starce will shrink as Warner would be a much bigger get. I'm sure Starcevich and his manager are aware so they'd want to lock this one away early.

Dude, we could afford Warner, Starcevich and have spare change to try and tempt Petracca, Merrett and Cripps if we wanted. Salary aint a issue clearly

But Eagles fans thinking the AFL should gift them pick 2 and Starc for free is normal? You lot are incredibly bias
We gave something up to get pick 2 so not really a gift . I mean at your birthday I don't think you give everyone 50 bucks before they hand over your present

As for Starcevich we don't need to give you anything at all. We just are too weak to take what is free . No different to giving a terrible waiter a 2 dollar tip when it's not mandatory

And we’re giving up something that has been more valuable than what you gave up for what? Nothing?

You’re inability to see things from any perspective but the WCE is impressive

You can get something. Pick 33 and no Annable bid ...

Wanting the AFL to give you a gift after giving you 3 already is just silly

Find it funny how you think the AFL is giving us the gift when they’re literally giving it to you. Anyways I don’t think this debate is worth having anymore, been beaten to death multiple times already

This has been said dozens of times including the direct quote from AFL rules. As a restricted free agent Starcevich has to declare for the main draft and can't simply enter the Preseason draft. Yes he 100% has to declare for the National Draft if no trade agreement can be met. That is in fact the exact rule for restricted free agents.

Gotta love the dick swinging that goes on in all trades.

One thing is for sure, at the very worst, we pay what is fair or over the top.

And when a player leaves us, we cave every time with a poor offer.

Brisbane, there is nothing to fear, we are the true cucks of the AFL.

After his head knock in Grand final, even West Coast may not be that sure. Let's see.
