He was getting pushed out of the midfield imo so it seems like it could be a mutual decision to look around. I'm sure he'll end up where his career will progress the best and it could be still be with us.
This makes sense if we have players coming in who improve the list. Likewise our picks. So the question is if 9 + Rowie for Curnow is a net gain for us?

The question might actually be does pick 9 + Rowy = Curnow + extra Mid

I wouldn't consider 3 games, in a down year, being pushed out. He was at 39% of CBs in the final round, not as much as usual, but more than Gus and Jordon. He might play forward more sure. It would just subtract from our team in areas we need to strengthen, so unless we were bringing in an experienced contested mid, it doesn't make a lot of sense, especially to Gold Coast.

They dont but they can help you get there/make it easier
It’s cost versus benefit

If you put all your eggs into the tall forwards basket you are going against the trend in modern footy.

Competitive talks that can run not slow contested marking but do nothing in the ground players matter

Sam Reid not Hayden McLean

Sure, but when you have as many spots fires on your list as we do, i don't think it's the number one priority. Certainly not 2-3 first rounders worth.

Very few players the last decade have wanted to come here tho its something you have to weigh up also.

We dont get to the GF in 2014/2016 without Franklin

But does Curnow really want to come? If we can get him here for our first + Florent then let's get the deal done. But I don't think he's worth our future draft capital or our best players.

I said it a while back but this year's trade period is our most crucial in years. Clearly the Lions have built a gap between themselves and the rest of the competition. The tier beneath them are also pulling ahead. I think we're sitting just at the bottom of this tier and if we don't do well, we will drop into the group of teams around 10-14, fighting to keep in touch with the 8.

Personally i look at the circumstances around Carlton and think its a tiny chance he wont be a Carlton player in 2026.

We will find out next week as the GF is over.

The anti-Curnow sentiment on here reminds me a little of how there was a lot of opposition to giving up anything of value for Daniher… and he ended up doing pretty well at the lions.

I’m more pro-Curnow than not (although I acknowledge the risk), because we are stagnating while other teams are getting better. If fit, he would make a huge impact for us IMO. If he’s cooked, well we took a swing. To me, if you have to lose a Rowy or a Hayward (as I saw reported today) or J-Mac (who seems to be incredibly overrated on here), you do it. Players like that are good AFL players but ultimately replaceable and not the difference between competing or not for a flag. Curnow at his best might be.

It’s probably all moot anyway because I doubt Curnow really wants to come here but just my opinion. I think we get overly attached to players who don’t move the needle all that much. To me, sometimes to get something good you have to entertain giving up something of value. It can’t just be 2nd round picks and players who were dropped to the VFL last season.

Its not so much being attached to our players or over rating them. Its more if we're going to make moves, let's get player(s) who are going to make a difference. For example, Curnow would not have made an iota of difference last year. But W Ashcroft, Neale or McCluggage would have as would an in form Peteacca, Oliver, Bont, Daicos etc. I understand none of the above are likely to want to come to us. But let's not give up a bunch of players and picks for a player who is not going to improve our flag prospects significantly just because he's available (which seems to almost be the main reason why we would have a swing at him). Prefer we go to the draft if there's no decent mid or defender available.

I can’t see curnow or juh digging in like the lions did in that first half when they were under the pump . Save the coin / picks and go find those players on the cusp that are big bodied and have a crack that’s what’s missing in our side . Just think back when won our premierships on grit and that’s what I saw in the lions today.

How good was Bruce Reville today?

I agree Curnow is not our main need but how many high level players get connected to us? We may disagree on curnow’s impact…I’m open to the possibility that he would be a dud and not worth it (he was horrible last year), but he might also be a massive upgrade over what we have. It’s a risk for sure, but I’m struggling to see how else we meaningfully improve this team. They’re isn’t an A-grade midfield bull or KPD walking through the door.

We looked 10x better with Amartey in the side

We will probs look 20x better with Curnow and a target to kick to

Curnow can still kick goals on oppos #1 but Amartey and Logan would get one easier

Get Curnow done

If it only costs hayward florent and a few picks so be it

Hayward and florent arent on small money esp hayward imo
