Hird was a Normie in 2000. played a sublime game in the most dominant side that's ever played 12 months of football. and he played a great game in the '93 GF kicking a goal in the 3rd when Essendon needed to make a statement to Carlton's challenge. put the game out of reach, killed Carltons momentum.
in retrospect he shouldnt have played in 2001; but its a Lachie Neale situation where you roll the dice. you want your best player out there. sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

Dangerfield is of course a fantastic player. but to me he's that one tier down from the absolute greats.

He had an opportunity to enhance his reputation today did Dangerfield, unfortunately for him he was very quiet. He simply wasn't good enough in the biggest and truest test of them all.

Did he just earn himself a bit of Leon Davis medal too?

10 touches at 60% efficiency in a GF.

Ouch.

Is 35 though. They need someone else to carry the torch.

Conversely, Zorko had 28 touches today. So no excuses I guess.

He was stuck at FF which was puzzling. Same thing happened in the 2020 GF.
Yep.
Was amazing last week in the prelim.
Impotent this week.
Been a great career but just like Pendles perhaps Father Time will catch up with him come the start of 2026.

this isnt basketball. goal assists is a BS stat. basically every person in the chain is part of the "goal assist"

unless its some freaky Greg Williams handball that slices through 10 people and hits you on the chest; goal assist isnt a thing in AFL.

Thats not true, you’re confusing goal assists with score involvements.

6 goal assists in one game is impressive

Yeah not having a go at Hird, or any of those players. More highlighting that every champion can have a bad one. Hodge as well in 2012. Similar to Hird 2001 that he wasn't fit to play, but that's the price you have to pay.

According to some Cats supporters there are rumours of Danger having gastro?

Dirty campaigner needs to start washing his hands or maybe lay off the kebabs at Corio Bay Roadhouse, how does this prick get gastro in all but one of his finals series?!?!?!

Isn't this the reason why they lost 2021 prelim to Melbourne too? Barwon water need to be investigated.

A real captain would have ruled themselves out if that was the case, not me me me Dangerfield

Was very strange after last week. He had a bad game, that happens, but like 2020 he was just anonymous and was barely near the action. Just 27% CBAs while they got absolutely belted in the centre

Their midfield started slow last week and Danger was the one to turn it around and give them a spark. Weird that there seemed like no intent to get him into the game

Needs to stop ordering food mid matches

Just from that list, Carey wasn't that great in GF's, Hird in 2001 had a shocker ( granted was injured) and Ablett sn, apart from 89 performed pretty poorly (kicked 4 goals between 92,94,95). Plenty of greats have had a bad days.
Duck was pretty good in 96, very good in 99. 98 not so much, but definitely had enough memorable finals games (94 QF v hawks, 97 QF v Geel, 99 QF v Port in particular) to cement a legacy as a good finals player

Had a quiet game today but I dont think it tarnishes his legacy. Hes 35, he shouldn't be expected to dominate.

That said, old man Zorko still seemed to show up

2nd grand final where he was worst on. When its truely mattered the aboslute most and Geelong aren't cruising to victory, he has fallen short too many times.

Haven’t read the 81 pages but read the op. Think he had 8 or 9 touches
today haha? Yeah he isn’t even close imagine Dusty doing that , you can’t
You have to imagine Dusty playing at 35, you don’t have to imagine Danger playing at 35.

Dangerfield is one of the all time greats. 2017 led the league in contested possessions and clearances, he also kicked 45 goals, wasn’t even his Brownlow year but that was one of the greatest individual seasons of all time. To go along with 8 All Australians.

Absolute superstar.

Ablett was sensational throughout the 1992 finals and was excellent in the first couple of finals of 1994.

Carey was a brilliant finals performer throughout the course of his entire career.
Booted 60 goals from 23 matches.
These guys are rated highly for a reason . . . consistently brilliant footballers.
