Maximum should have gone 6th in the draft. Finn and Mac also ridiculous potential so it came down to need but when the guy is like the best kick as a junior in about ten years people shouldn’t have slept on him.

Plenty on our board thought he was just a soft flanker when drafted (I was one of them)

What’s unbelievable about his performance yesterday is not that he calmly slotted the game winning goal after the siren - something that very few players get to do and when they do it’s generally remembered as an almost impossible to match career highlight, the fulfilment of the dream of every kid kicking a footy.

It’s that this was only about the 4th most impressive thing he did in that quarter alone! Whether it was the preceding speccy and goal, the organisation in advance with Marshall of the final play, the hitting on the chest with a dart of I forget who out of centre clearance that led to a goal etc. These are things that only a few players in the comp can do in isolation let alone all at once in absolute clutch moments to win the game.

The other thing that truly sets him apart is the composure. Even when he’s lining up the shot in the last minute to tie the game, I’m thinking he’s gotta hurry up to give them a chance to win. But he refuses to be distracted from his routine and nails it running the clock down to 8 seconds. Now it still took something extraordinary to win it in those 8 seconds but his approach ensured they at least would get a draw and, as it turned out gave them the chance to win as well.

Honestly can’t remember a better individual performance in a quarter and I’ve been following the game since the 80s.

Great post.
That dart to Higgins was so good even Higgins was surprised when it landed in his lap.

He is legitimately unbelievable. He can do it ALL. That mark sprinting back inside 50 with no regard what was coming the other direction and his knowledge of space to even get there was unbelievable. Then, the ability to finish, after having just taking a 2v1 screamer to tie the match up 20 seconds earlier.. Incredible.. Nick Davis like.

What a freak, my favourite player in the competition.

Or maybe he just wants to live in Adelaide near family
Its 100% about family for him. I think he has some loyalty to St Kilda, Ross and members of the playing group and is torn between the two.
My personal feelings are, and this isn't something I have heard but rather think, is he might wait until the end of the year when he is away from the club to decide. Obviously when he is at the club he's under pressure to stay, and he doesnt want to make a decision due to influence. Once the season is over he will sit back with his manager and make that decision when he isnt around the club.
I dont think that means he is gone at all, but it just means he wants to make that decision with a clear head.
No doubt he has his Port friends constantly in his ear to come back, and St Kilda in his ear to stay. I think he has honestly made the decision to put if off till the end of the year and concentrate on playing good football, which is working for him.

I dont know him at all, but it appears he has a very smart head on his shoulders and will do things his way. That's how he plays his football and how he has played his contract situation.

I think he absolutely is torn between going home and staying.

No-one believes that tho
Theo is one of the best at inside info in the game. He rarely makes claims, but when he does its normally true. He isn't like the Victorian scribes who are under pressure to come up with new inside info every week for their newspaper and TV shows, so he only speaks when he knows something.

How could anyone ever want to put down a player like NMW? Just a freak.

Talents like him don't come around too often, tipping he gives Bont a run for his money next year as the best player in the comp.
