Always feels that way after a Grand final. One thing we've done well since last year is to blood promising youth early. Though it was forced upon us with Morris and Lohmann in 2024 due to injuries, I'd say this year we have been more proactive with Marshall, McLachlan, Gallop.

We need a Mr. Fix it with Ah Chee's departure and a lockdown defender with potential move of Starcevich (at least until Answerth returns). Other than that, we can sit back and watch the list evolve with one more pre-season under all the 22 n under crop. Their maturity alone could take us to another finals run in 2026.
We’ve got so many options on our list already to fill in those spots, then a couple more guys to come as well.

Linc, Bruce, Annable, McLachlan all good options to stand up in the Ah Chee role.

Answerth, Kiddy, Brain, Doedee for Starcevich as well.

I think we’re better suited to win again next season than we have been the last two

I reckon our win yesterday will supercharge the trade period the other 'contenders' will have realised they are currently a long way off and will need to move heaven and earth to try and compete.

For example I would fancy us against Hawthorn next year even if they had Merritt and Butters in their midfield.

Geelong will need Curnow, Marshall and Worpel and still seem a mid short.
Worpel = DevRob. Only difference is Worpel got a chance when Hawthorn’s midfield was sh!t.
Hope the players aren't as cocky as I feel. 🙂

What seemed within reach yesterday morning surely seems like a chasm now!

Won't count Levi as he was always going to play.

Bruce can be our new Mr Fix it

Agreed, I really hope this Grand final win lights a fire under Doedee and he dives head first into pre-season. He would be perfect for Starcevich role, has the smarts to not just lockdown but be flexible to play on tall or small. He was devoid of confidence this year when he played in that one game, I really hope he has a really good pre-season to come back into selection calculations.

To Fagan's credit, he'll play Doedee if he's fit and ready to go. It's up to Doedee to fix his side.

Yes I think Bruce can take AhChee’s role. Capable wing, half back and half forward. Needs to get his fitness up just abit.

Yep, Bruce was getting caught under the ball few times yesterday - conceded frees to Dempsey, Bowes etc. Fixable and he is definitely a better ball user by hand n foot going the other way.

Bruce also led many times to the open wing to be an option for the bail out kick, can make that role his own next year.

Briz we haven’t left you much to work with. Trash picks. You’re going to have to work some magic to get us competing again next year via a nice trade and draft haul.

Over to you.
Why do you think briztoon hangs with the Eagles ... his heart is with us but they let him live with his passion!

Except they got tired of me telling them that their list building was going to take the best part of a decade.

There were some big arguments about just how bad a shape their list was in, and that they hadn’t reached rock bottom yet.

It’s funny reading some of the recent comments, from some of their members, who put up the most strident arguments against mine, now parroting what I said 12 and 24 months ago.

They won’t be able to rebuild without you Briztoon, it’s their loss

It’s for this reason, the chance at a three peat, is why I don’t get why Starc and Ah Chee wouldn’t want to be trying for that and happy to move on anyway.

Anyways; wonder if there’s anything in this:

Starc forced into retirement or we keep him on the list for a couple of years. West Coast won't be investing in him now

Wonder if we can give Starcevich 3 years and put him in medical retirement for first year - so we pay him but see if we can place it outside the cap or something and free up a spot as well.

This opens up an entirely new genre of rorts. I'm intrigued.

Then he should stay; no one is pushing him out except himself. Martin Pike was on $80K for his final years at the club and saw fit to stay and become a triple premiership player with the Lions in his addition to his one with North. What makes Cal different.

Pikey was bloody average. If he was offered an extra $1mil over 4 years he might not have stayed to go to another good side like Sydney

Man deserves to get paid before retirement.
One last payday, understandable.

Cal is one of those players who's going to be appreciated more when he's gone than when he was here.

Which is why Murray was prepared to throw the kitchen sink at him.

Nah, I totally appreciate the flexibility he brought to the table and how we have made him play all over the ground - he delivered in all of them including keeping a tight leash on Dempsey in Grand final.

He's one smart player who'll be missed for sure. Personally I'd give him a semi-decent multi year contract and lock him away. But since his form was wavering this year I can understand why list management team think we don't have to throw long contract at him.
