You would be better off going something like this.

Taking pick 2 & then trading back down the order with Essendon for say for example 5 & 23 then sending the end of first comp to Brisbane for Starc

End up with 1,5,15,20,23 plus Starc

Yes very good , wait and see anything could happen .

With the end of Round 1 assistance package pick we could have five picks in top 20 of the draft ......

1-2-15-19-20 ...

But take Starcevich as a free agent would dilute pick 2 so ....

1-15-19-20-21 + Starcevich free agent addition .

With pick 2 dropped to 21 with free agency devaluing via Starcevich FA .

Just my guess of our picks either way , both options aren't too bad .
Allen on 850k and Starcevich on 900k mean we likely wont get any compo at all I think, they cancel each other out.

We'll be trading the end of first for Starcevich you'd think.

I just don’t see it though. He misses handballs, isn’t clean all the time, his kicks are also loopy as f*ck.

I know he’s 18, but if that’s his one wood, and you’re going top 2, you better be having the hands and vision of Neale, Green or prime Oliver in close, and I just don’t think he does.

Sharp easily has the best hands and vision in close of any player in this draft pool and it's not even close.

Is in play for West Coast or in play to get traded? Saints are very keen apparently, Essendon would just take him in the Merrett trade.

Unless he wants out of the shit show on Melbourne city atm I can’t see how we would be in play at all.
same? you beat me to it

F**k this off-season is heading into some depressing territory
Haha, while it’s not looking like Warner, Cameron, Walter and Neale which would’ve been ideal.

People need to relax, teams that ‘win the off-season’ at the time very rarely win it in the long term. Steak knives like Crisp can become the best part of a trade, ‘rejects’ like Keays can become BnF winners and help be a part of a team while it climbs up the ladder.

While I’d love to be linked to a best 23 mid from another team soon or any pure mid really. Who knows we might get out Gunstan, Ginni, Mass and Chol off-season, clubs really didn’t want them or offer the right contract but become regular parts of our 23 and help lift the floor.

We are/were linked to two players who certainly looked to develop during the year in Erasmus and Butler so the hope is they might just have an eye for players who might be ready to take the next level. Even if they were highish picks and in the right age to take the next step they both definitely showed some decent things after we were linked

More or less id rather Dev on 3 years 1.2 mill which both saves us 4.2 million in salary AND lets us have a midfielder and not yet another HB
Saved for who?

I genuinely think people don’t seem to grasp the fact we already have millions in our cap, are front loading contracts and now are replacing McGovern, Sheed and Liam Ryan’s contacts with more rookies.

The argument of “oh well we can just throw money at anyone and they’ll come” nonsense is really annoying too.

How many players have North and Eagles gone for over the past 3 years and managed to secure?

When you are cellar dwellers it’s hard to get players to commit to your club and even harder to get new ones to come.

Lol only if you read this board

We'll likely have picks 1 and 2, that alone will make it super interesting. Plus whatever assistance package and the list of 2nd and 3rds we already have. Plus the NGAs and Banfield

Good group of kids coming in almost regardless of any trades this board wants to melt over

I don't want to "win the off-season", I just want to pick up some blokes that aren't Blowies-level or one head knock away from retirement

That’s the hope clearly but a lot of these pick ups you don’t know until they are in the system and playing and some getting an extended run in their natural position.

Sam Collins
Mark Keane
Gunstan

All AA squad members this year and when recruited by their team they probably never thought it would happen but they identified a need or the talent.

The likely high end talent is coming in through the draft but identify and recruit the right players and who knows what they can become.

You are shouting into the void at this time. Full credit for trying. Those who live in some form of reality appreciate it, so thank you 👍

Duggan was a liability this year I agree.

Cole though had a strong year and deserved the extension he got, anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.

With Hough likely to return and Yeo potentially also starc doesn't add much

I'm delusional then.
Cole was absolutely a liability and very limited in his reboundgame and giving away goals etc.

Yeo may not return.

Hough is still a kid.

I'm not advocated paying the same coin and draft capital for lesser players.

I don't see the rush to go out and get good players. I think Warner to Eagles in 2 years is very realistic. There will be other good options when we're in a better position.

In the mean time, I don't mind taking a crack on a ruckman who is 27 and not getting a game because Man Bun Man is #1 ruck. He just strikes me as a Rockingham type guy. Set him up down in Rocko, and he'll probably play his best footy. I'm sure there is a dog track down there, somewhere.

As for the other 2 spuds - I don't mind taking one of them for f-all to take on the Redden type role.
We won 1 game this year and you don't "see the rush" to get good players.
Seriously?

We don't even know if Warner will come to us IF he comes back home.
We need all of the good players we can get, now.

It's hard enough to get any players to the club, let alone really good ones.
As long as we do due diligence on Starcevich, it's a no brainer.

It doesn't matter if he's Polly Farmer..

🥄

The bloke is one head knock away from wasting everyone's time and being medically retired. That knock on grand final day legitimately could've been it.

🥄

Do you get it now?
If he's offered 4 years with triggers and get's ruled out in his first year, it costs us some money, which we have in spades.

He's worth taking a risk on.

You're the type who wants Dev and then crucifies the club when he turns out to be bad.

Liam Jones out of contract

Position of need

Injury and concussion prone

No brainer

Absolutely. He may play 100 games. He may unfortunately play 0. Not one person would say his concussion history isn’t a concern. But in our position, with the salary cap floor being struggling to be met. With a young squad needing leaders/quality experience, it is a risk worth taking.

Provided there are enough protections, if he gets paid out early so be it. Who else is coming at this point in time? If he was vying with a group of potential recruits, I would be more hesitant but in our current position, we take what we can get. And if someone of his calibre is willing to leave the back to back premiers and perennial finalists for our win club, then he is more than welcome.

Delusional has been thrown around a lot today, as in "if you disagree with me you are delusional"
Although in your case he might have a point. :D :D
