Interesting that’s not what I heard (not saying I’m correct).

I heard that when Curnow became a possibility all internal discussions about JUH was on absolute back burner. Less “no” and more “not priority” was the vibe I got.
I was originally all for JUH coming in but a prudent decision by the Swans if that is the case.

Getting on an AFL list requires dedication and commitment. Why should we give a spot to a bloke who can’t show that and at best is a risk when a young kid is busting his backside to be given a chance and get on the list.
The reality might be JUH might need to go to a State Metro or Country league next year if he is not drafted and show his passion and commitment. If he goes well clubs will be go after him next year.

If he went to those leagues he would also need to get a full time job.

Well folks, we have done our due diligence on JUH and it’s a no from the Swans. Actually it’s been a no for a while but just had it confirmed.

Bonz are you hearing the same ?

Have not heard anything on JUH the entire time 😅

Didn’t think we would sign hamling , Rampe and Lloyd at there age

Seems a little desperate and probably means we are not bringing anyone in for that area and f the ground

Defence looking very average on paper
Rampe is the only strange one age-wise, didn't think he should go on form-wise either.

Hamling was pretty good down back, but assuming we'll get 20+ games from each of him, Melican, Tmac is a massive if.

No concerns re: age with Lloyd, one of the fittest and most durable going around. Only just turned 32. It's whether there's a role for him.

Mentioned on the Dan Does Footy pod cast that Trac was spotted leaving Swans HQ a week or so ago.

Yeah this was the player I was told to keep quiet about 😅

Has been in the media, but in no way linked to the Swans, both the club and his management wanted to keep it quiet.

His not our main priority, more of an option if Curnow falls down (which links back to us being confident on landing him).

Its more or less the same back 6 which conceded multiple +10 goal runs but a year older..

The backlash against northern academies following the GF win is predictable but what I don't get is how destination clubs never face any restrictions. Geelong can load up on Bailey (& Isaac) Smith, Cameron, Dangerfield, the Pies with Bobby Hill, Tom Mitchell, Perryman, Houston while Kangaroos and North Melbourne struggle to attract anyone.

If a club makes top four three times in a row maybe they should be banned from trading in listed players for a year or two? This isn't a specific proposal so much as saying if I were a small club I'd be trying to put the clamps on destination clubs rather than taking aim at academies which at least grow the player pool. We talk about equalisation but one of the big inequalities is being able to attract top talent.
The whinging about academies really gets on my nerves. The fact is that the academies have played a pretty marginal role in the success of the swans and lions. Sure, we’ve had Erroll, Blakey, Mills and Heeney (and a couple of others)…admittedly the top of our list….but that’s since 2010. It’s hardly affected the balance of the comp and that’s very few impact players over a long period of time (although imagine where we’d be without those players).

The Lions have had even fewer key players through theirs - I think it’s basically Harris Andrews and Hipwood and a couple of fringe guys? Hardly the AFL gifting them a flag. Obviously F/S has been far more impactful and everyone has access to that.

Now maybe the numbers get bigger over time, and the suns and giants academies are pumping out quality at a higher volume it seems but the point is, it’s just sour grapes from supporters who want to attribute success to anything other than good list management, coaching, culture etc. No one talks about all the excellent contributors we’ve picked up late or off rookie lists or how we’ve stayed finals competitive with hardly any high draft picks (other than academy players) over a long period of time…or how many northern academy players are on other lists - it doesn’t fit the Melbourne-centric “it’s all so unfair” narrative. Can’t stand it. Most vocal from supporters of pathetic clubs too.

Ramps is a strange re-sign, not sure what the club is thinking. I love the man but I feel we need better alternatives down back.

Worst yet though is it seems we have no immediate valid replacement or were not able to obtain one.

Well it's not all on the backline, or KPDs. There's a couple like Blakey and Roberts which were major culprits that either get back to form or play elsewhere.

And that's without the failures of mids and forwards that contributed.
