2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

I think Gus Hastie has a few teams interested in him. A friend of mine who always gets good mail was asking me questions about him so I figure he’s heard something.
Corey Enright really rates Hastie.

Hastie was the Geelong Falcons best player during the 2023 draft year.

Cal Twomey has been tracking this story all year and he's got the exclusive on the concessions that the Tasmania Devils will be granted ahead of their proposed entry to the AFL in 2027.

There are a pile of first-round draft picks - plenty of which must be traded - and a $5 million pot of cash to lure prospective players with huge sign-on bonuses.

The Devils will also be able to poach one uncontracted player from each of the existing 18 clubs.

How does the last sentence of the above work? For example does that mean they can poach NWM and offer a huge sign on bonus as his out of contract in 2027 and we can't do anything about it?

That’s the way I read it.

The father son is the cherry on top of a large bowl of soft shite.

I hate this ****ing league

Freijah is upset at the dogs placing him on the trade table for Wilkie.

West coast has sensed the issue and are offering him 1.1/6 years.

Joel is flying over tomorrow to have a chat.
It would be genuinely funny if we got Freijah to nominate Saints after everything that has happened with Wilkie.

Yep.

James Hird has been really good in the media since coming back into the fold.

I really enjoy listening to him. Makes a lot of sense and is very reasoned in his views.
He and Buckley are two I listen to. Not many others

quote from the article.

"In the new eligibility, at least one parent is required to have been born in an eligible country, seeing examples such as Kye Fincher this year (who was born in Hong Kong while his mother was working abroad and is tied to St Kilda as a result) no longer accessible in the future unless the player has at least one parent born overseas."

Comps a joke, make it harder to get decent players through the NGA academy's whilst Northern clubs are getting like 4 top 10 picks this year, one of the clubs on track for a 3-peat too

the problem i have with the northern acadamies is that the reasons for implementing them are no longer valid

the big reason for their implementation was a lack of home grown talent. they cited particpiation numbers as an example why.

but after a heavy push into the northern markets and the establishment of two new AFL clubs the participation numbers have sky rocketed.

the QLD participation numbers are now higher than than SA and Tasmania combined. off the back of that we've seen a club like southport (heavy linked to GC) participate in the VFL grand final. which shows the talent is coming through from the bottom up. we've seen the elite talent start to pour into the draft.

i agree with Riewoldts argument that QLD are now producing elite talent on par with traditional football states. for example theres more high level elite talent coming from QLD than there is WA IMO

people might disagree with this but the reality is the clubs in the non traditional markets of QLD and NSW and now producing outcomes far beyond the traditional football states of WA and SA. so they need to be returned back to the fold and seen as just a normal football state now where they produce talent just like WA and SA.

here's the big kicker though which has shown the huge swing. of the last 10 grand finals only 4 didnt involve a northern market club. QLD and NSW have produced 2 premiers from 6 grand grand finals. total grand finals is 7. in contrast WA and SA combined have only participated in two grand finals for 1 premiership.

yet we arent sitting here demanding all SA talent go to the crows/port and all WA talent goes to Freo/WCE.

it needs to be called out for it is. glorified match fixing. theyre trying to make sure the four northern markets are continually playing finals so that the attendance rates increase and threaten the NRL. that's it.

Disagree.

By the same token, Windhager should no longer be in the leadership group because he pushed for more money and shopped himself around.

It’s just the way the game is these days. Doesn’t mean they aren’t able to lead.

Wasn't contracted and getting low balled. Wilks was going to have to break contract.

You know it's OK to give them a pat on the back occasionally - it won't make you a bad person......

Try it with me - "that'll do pig".......

When we are winning games of footy and are set to play finals they get a lolly. No sweets until after dinner.

So basically two traditional football states in WA and SA are being left to wilt on the vine ( as has Victoria, as the Geoff Walsh report showed) all the while Dillon and DEI Kane are getting their nickers moist over their shiney toys in QLD and NSW,?
Tell me it ain't so.

We already told Wilkie he was underpaid at the start of the year.

If the club wasn’t happy to bump his contract. Then they wouldn’t have.

It’s really a non story.

Hopefully this will influence our TV schedule for next year. More Saturday night games, rather than Sunday arvo like this year. Would love that.

Was a shame not getting to enjoy many Sat night Saints games.

Nas becoming a superstar poster boy will give us a massive boost for primetime.

Jamie Elliott just had his best year & is 33 y.o
Ease up on Ryan
Ok.
Did you see the ?
My in-laws in WA say he’s lost his leap. Hopefully not.

Anyway, was just in response to a post swapping him for Collard, which I think is a terrible idea.

100% and i dont think people realise how bad it is here.

we had a well respected football figure here in WA go on radio and basically beg the AFL and by extension the WAFC for more assistance in the junior pathways. this guy was a WAFL leading goal kicker, WAFL premiership player, AFL listed player and worked within AFL recruitment/development as well as state football development.

he said that all the resources for the grades below U17 are basically volunteer. they're even paying for stuff out of their own pocket.

so they're finding resourcing really hard. he's a school teacher by trade.

now the devils advocate argument will be that WCE have 50m in the bank so they should be funding it but then again how much money does the pies and richmond etc have yet the AFL is still funding victorian football programs. then you can easily point to the rivers of gold going up north.

its an absolute farce.

Ok.

We gave Dunstan Lenny’s number, so…
His leap looks just fine in his highlights.

Still uses speed to break through congestion aswell.

traditionally has had ankle/lower legs issues

he's lost a bit of that leap but he's also pushed through the midfield and performed there. he's more versatile now than say 2018.

also its a bit hard to leap at wce when theres literally no one tall around him whos damaging to take the defenders away. its jake waterman and thats it. the delivery is shit house.

Hope so. I’m not against getting him at all.
Just against the idea of swapping him for Collard.

My in-laws are big Eagles supporters, so just quoting what they tell me.
