But Meek has a lot more bows in his quiver (more mobile, physical impact, more of a pure footballer, etc) that will still make him our number 1 ruck choice in 2026.
Certainly won’t be anyone’s number 1 archer if he’s getting around with a quiver full of bows.

Sub rule swiftly removed on the back of Chris Scott whining in his GF press conference about it - hardly surprising
Watch him whinge if cats go a player down due to concussion next year “we need a sub!”

Isn't this my point though? In no other sport. Hence saying it's sad that the game becomes more generic as a product even though I don't think it's a bad idea.
But it doesn't change the game or make it more generic. The umpires aren't the game - the players are. It's completely unnecessary.

The game starts with a bounce, TV shows are named after it, the stat recording a player attending a midfield stoppage after a goal is a "centre bounce attendance". To me it's a part of the uniqueness and pageantry of the game. This feels like such an inoffensive opinion to have I'm not 100% sure why you're so bothered by it?

haha easy KJ - I'm not bothered by it, or bothered by the fact it is gone - as I said it's a non event. I'm just offering my opinion you're against your own. You don't welcome discussion anymore?

You seemed far more concerned by the removal of it and my lack of care ;-)

As for the TV show... players bounce the ball, the show is straight after the final game, aired " on the bounce ".. :tearsofjoy: Not sure that was the strongest argument you have ever put forward, even if it was solely the reason the show was named.

With five on the bench I almost feel like we could play both of Ramma and Chol (one starting and one on the bench).

Or we go with an extra midfielder to add to the on all rotation which has it's merits as well (lots of clubs will go down this path).

Of all of those possibilities I feel like playing two pure rucks is the least probable. Maybe if Reeves or Meek can improve their forward craft but that seems unlikely.
Or Finn could play his best role as tagger

Cancel the TV show
everyone goes home happy

I just said it's philosophically a bit sad, not that I have a problem with it. I love a discussion as everyone on this board knows, willingly or not - was just a bit confused about this one being worth discussion!

So I agree with you, not overly consequential for the game, but I'm a fan of there being inconsequential traditions that are stuck to anyway.

Can't wait for the sub to be reinstated again. It was ditched back when Suckling was still playing for us and was indeed the last sub in the 2015 GF.

Something something, what if a player gets concussion mid-game? Better bring back the sub rule.... but wait why limit it to concussions? All over again. I give it 3 years max before it's back on the agenda.

You'd be one of the only ones wanting it back.

Needs to be banished to history and never spoken of again.

Connor Downie 'debuting' but not getting on the park, and James Jordan winning a premiership medal without getting a single minute of a run are things that never should have happened.

I’m disappointed the bounce is gone - such a unique part of our game. Don’t see why it couldn’t have been kept to start each quarter to keep that uniqueness.

Unfortunately it now goes to the archive cupboard where handball and push in the back live

It will be interesting to see if Geelong have any luck tempering this, particularly if their performances start to fall off. Characters like Smith get less endearing the worse a team is performing.

Practically I have no problem with the bounce being removed, philosophically I feel sad that another piece of pageantry and tradition is gone. The AFL is on a mission to become as generic as possible it seems.
While I agree with that, I think the steady increase of the bench size over the years has and will continue to have a huge impact on so many parts of the game.

He is a ticking time bomb. If they start losing next year i wouldn't be surprised if he goes of his rocker on the field

Absolutely iconic to the game. Having ground level seats at the GF i literally just thought on Sat what a spectacle it makes it, and now it's gone.

It will get very interesting once the Cats taper off. The claws will be out for any player not doing the team thing.

I still think there will be a Mad Monday at footy clubs. Just much more private. On a player’s farm, no phones / cameras etc.

Boys will be boys after all.
Official Mad Monday or not, there will be one.

Boys will be boys after all.
What does this mean? That the players can continue with homophobia and misogyny as long as it's behind closed doors....

Just to be clear if my son and his mates acted in this way (not that they do) they'd all cop a blasting from myself and their parents.

There's a finality to this that doesn't apply to the other rule changes too, I reckon. In a few years they could reintroduce a sub, or revert back to the old ruck rules if a spate of PCL injuries come from these latest tweaks, but I once the bounce is gone I think it's gone for good. Umps aren't going to relearn the skill if they don't practice it for a number of years. I agree that it's a bit sad to see it go, at least at the start of each match.
