"Crows decided to walk away"

Yeah when they reali he wasn't coming šŸ˜‚

Why would we walk away? We've got no midfield.
It wasn't coincidental Melbourne had a meeting with Oliver when Petracca's expected decision was in a few days. The only way pick 14 was enough for Melbourne was if we absorbed his contract. They now have the option to cleared $600K of their salary so will get maximum trade capital from GCS.

The only way that walking away really makes sense is if we have someone else lined up

But it just feels like that it’ll end up not making sense

For a moderator, I thought you would've been a lot more emotionally impartial.

For all we know, Dees are asking for a top 10 pick and another first round pick - which is quite possibly more than we would want to offer anyway
We also could have failed our medical.....

Not a great loss?

Come on dude. Yeah he's 30, he probably only has a few years of football left and he's not worth three first round picks. But he would have been massive for our premiership window

Thats my point. Melbourne obviously made it clear taking on his whole contract is going to be meaningless to them. Which means to get the deal across the line the easy way we would have had to sell the farm. Did we really want to do this for a 30 year old, or hit the draft and trade table for other prospects that could end up being far more long term.

A part of this that could also be a factor is they think a $650k/year Oliver has more value then a $1.2m/ year Trac.

Also when you take into account the massive void in trade compo required.

Im not saying I believe that necessarily, but the Crows have done a lot of homework on Oliver. So perhaps they do

Narratives can be influenced by the leakers themselves, in this case likely the club.

Could easily be a way to save face.

The club has been pretty silent - not sure there is a narrative they're pushing. We certainly haven't postulated like we did with the Gibbs trade.

You walk away if the cost of doing the deal is too high. If Melbourne were going to dig their heels in on his trade value, most would agree that Trac is not a hill to sell the farm on.

We may be in on Oliver who is far cheaper and, I would argue, a far better fit, for us.

Oh well

Throw the coin at Zac Bailey.
And take a punt on Oliver.

I just don't see Petracca leaving Melbourne to live and big chance to end up at Hawks if Merrett doesn't get there which seems to lost momentum and goes back to Essendon.
Or now King is clearing some of the debris at Demons could well return there .

So you think it was completely our decision to supposedly "walk away"?
It would be great to hear what sort of asking price melbourne put on him that caused us to pull away. Maybe they were told its a player they want as we don't have the picks and it was a player we were not willing to let go?. Just be interested to hear from the club what kind of a price was put on him

That's our story and we're sticking with it
Who knows what goes on behind the scene. Every chance that we've talked to Melbourne about Clarry and did a deal where we pull out so they can deal with GC for Trac. They have much more collateral after all, so this suits Melb. I would not be surprised if Oliver suddenly picks us.

I wouldnt be surprised at all. Maybe the club preferred the slightly younger option. Olivers manager could have already reached out.

Personally I just think the club didnt want to waste trade week trying to avoid selling the farm instead of networking for other players and draft picks.

Surely we go all out for Oliver? I rather Oliver than Petracca myself based on a cost aswell as Oliver suits more of a need.

I think the loss of Burgess makes this difficult and with Olivers personal issues I don't think the Adelaide media would be kind to him. GWS would be his best fit.

As for Petracca it's a shame you did not have the trade capital to make it work, would have been the perfect fit for both parties.

Laughable lie to suggest we walked away

Surely no one is buying that
Yeah, because Cal Thomey has a really vested interest in making us look good...

Imagine being so negative you actively dismiss any news that goes against your doom and gloom narrative as propaganda.
