There is no way we would have invited Petracca to meet Nicks and tour the club if we weren't fully aware of the trade cost

There could be a possibility something came bout during the tour. Club doctor/Burgess saw something in the medical they not comfortable with?

Maybe Nicks didn't like him ....lol

You would think Tom Morris would rather report we missed out rather than "walk away".

Media love sinking the boots into us.

Pick 14 and all of Petracca's salary was the trade cost. Yesterday changed that with Oliver's meeting, Melbourne now have the option to pay more if not all for more trade capital.

Yeah, because Cal Thomey has a really vested interest in making us look good...

Imagine being so negative you actively dismiss any news that goes against your doom and gloom narrative as propaganda.

You have to examine the news logically.

Under what circumstances does it make sense that we would genuinely "walk away"?

Not as in "we walked away after he chose Gold Coast because we had no choice", but "we actively walked away from this deal before Petracca made a decision"?

There is no version of the latter that I believe is true.

Oliver was Plan A for a long time
The news of Demons now willing to wear a much higher % than anticipated may have swung us back

Costs nothing trade wise and nowhere near as much salary

I reckon he's more likely to go to GWS if he wants out of Melbourne (the city). If I were him I'd like the anonymity as opposed to the scrutiny he'd get in Adelaide.

Then you're not really thinking are you.

I dont think Oliver's coming. Adelaide is not really suitable as a town for him, would not go well.

The circumstances where Melbourne demanded too much. I get you are disappointed. Doesnt mean the club was irresponsible or we are covering our ass.

I think if Oliver is used correctly he'll be the better choice and he's much cheaper in the trade

Really didn't want to sell the farm and have a situation like we did with Gibbs

Do you understand what doing due diligence is?

Imagine the narrative:
Petracca: "I have potential interest"
Crows: "Sorry mate, we dont"

Never going to happen

That's a stretch. We were far progressed into discussions, to the point he actually toured the club, met the coach, did a medical

You're telling me we only found out about the trade cost after doing all of that, and so we backed out at that point?

We would have been fully aware of Melbourne's asking price. If it wasn't feasible for us, it wouldn't have progressed beyond an initial chat and expression of interest

There's NO version of the latter that you believe is true? His medical couldn't have gone badly? He couldn't have interviewed poorly? Melbourne couldn't have said directly "14 and a future first isnt enough"? Come on.

If we were willing and able to pay the entire $1.4 to 1.7 million dollars (depending on who you ask) contract of Petracca’s then surely we should be putting that same money infront of Zac Bailey and trying to pry him out of the lions a year early.

Way better fit and the lions and bailey might jump at it especially if we offer the lions 14 and our F1.. with a second or third coming back..

The lions would be thinking the 3 peat is on the cards for them and so if Zac goes as a FA next year they may only get pick 19 next year as compo..

Cash in now.. trust that the rest of your young midfield will improve (which it will) and cover the loss of Bailey next season.. the lions are stacked.

The lions could never offer Bailey $1.4 a season.. nowhere near it with all their talent and their trade target this year which must be a decent sized contract given it is going to net West Coast pick 2 as compo..

Lions then have decent draft picks to continue adding talent to their list.

Win for them and us IMO..

Move all chips into the middle of the Bailey board please mofo’s..

But they demanded too much at the last minute, that we weren't aware of before getting so far into the process?

Nah
