I believe we were keen but then the Oliver news yesterday may have changed our stanceBut they demanded too much at the last minute, that we weren't aware of before getting so far into the process?
Nah
which everyone knew well before Petracca got on the plane to Adelaide. The reality is, the Suns had more in their trade arsenal than we did. Its pretty simple, yet seemingly difficult a normally well reasoned poster such as yourself to understand.
He must have seenDamn so the generationally hungover Suns leadership team and coaches really sold the awful for food, subpar training facilities and comparable to SA beaches location to Petracca then
High chance something in the medical returned a result we didn't want, i agree a stretch and a bold call from a new fitness boss. That's a stretch. We were far progressed into discussions, to the point he actually toured the club, met the coach, did a medical
You're telling me we only found out about the trade cost after doing all of that, and so we backed out at that point?
We would have been fully aware of Melbourne's asking price. If it wasn't feasible for us, it wouldn't have progressed beyond an initial chat and expression of interest
There's NO version of the latter that you believe is true? His medical couldn't have gone badly? He couldn't have interviewed poorly? Melbourne couldn't have said directly "14 and a future first isnt enough"? Come on.
The only way it makes sense is if Trac was willing to go to either GC suddenly upped their offer. So unless Melbourne get an absolutely kings ransom in return I reckon it's a 'you can't fire me I quit'.But they demanded too much at the last minute, that we weren't aware of before getting so far into the process?
Nah
He fell asleep when Nicks was talking? There could be a possibility something came bout during the tour. Club doctor/Burgess saw something in the medical they not comfortable with?
Maybe Nicks didn't like him ....lol
You would think Tom Morris would rather report we missed out rather than "walk away".
Media love sinking the boots into us.
Gold Coast is Gold Coast, picks grow on trees for them and have never held the same value as they do for us.Would be unlikely that Petracca failed a medical or interview and we only heard about that at the exact moment he chose Gold Coast (where he didn't fail the medical or interview apparently?)
The cost thing we would have been fully aware of.
Bailey is the best of all three (Bailey/Teac/Oliver) IMOIf we were willing and able to pay the entire $1.4 to 1.7 million dollars (depending on who you ask) contract of Petracca’s then surely we should be putting that same money infront of Zac Bailey and trying to pry him out of the lions a year early.
Way better fit and the lions and bailey might jump at it especially if we offer the lions 14 and our F1.. with a second or third coming back..
The lions would be thinking the 3 peat is on the cards for them and so if Zac goes as a FA next year they may only get pick 19 next year as compo..
Cash in now.. trust that the rest of your young midfield will improve (which it will) and cover the loss of Bailey next season.. the lions are stacked.
The lions could never offer Bailey $1.4 a season.. nowhere near it with all their talent and their trade target this year which must be a decent sized contract given it is going to net West Coast pick 2 as compo..
Lions then have decent draft picks to continue adding talent to their list.
Win for them and us IMO..
Move all chips into the middle of the Bailey board please mofo’s..
You forget that he didn't tell Melbourne he wanted out until after he'd visited us. He visited us on the basis that Melbourne were happy for him to "explore options". Im not naive enough to think this all came out of the blue, but its not a stretch to think that we were approached by his management with an expression of interest, had him over here for both parties to do due diligence, then when he expressed he might be keen, we've gone to Melbourne to talk deal. Then, having come away from that with knowledge of what was going to get it done, had a list management meeting and gone "yeah, nah". Or, told Christian we were prepared to negotiate with Melbourne but it was going to be tough and we might not be able to make a deal work, and Christian has gone well I really want to go and GC can make the deal happen, so I will go there. That's a stretch. We were far progressed into discussions, to the point he actually toured the club, met the coach, did a medical

You have to examine the news logically.
Under what circumstances does it make sense that we would genuinely "walk away"?
Not as in "we walked away after he chose Gold Coast because we had no choice", but "we actively walked away from this deal before Petracca made a decision"?
There is no version of the latter that I believe is true.
He'd be a super get for us. The lions have Annable coming in who is a mid likely to get a very high bid and Levi Ashcroft will be better again so they could offload him IF they wanted and still stay at the very topIf we were willing and able to pay the entire $1.4 to 1.7 million dollars (depending on who you ask) contract of Petracca’s then surely we should be putting that same money infront of Zac Bailey and trying to pry him out of the lions a year early.

Probably, but he won’t be available until 2026Bailey is the best of all three (Bailey/Teac/Oliver) IMO
I am big fan of his.
Thats a fair assessment, however you still have to bring him to the club to do the medicals etc.which everyone knew well before Petracca got on the plane to Adelaide.
GC suddenly didn't get extra draft capital in the last week
Gold Coast less risk adverse than us?Plus they have two elite mids.Would be unlikely that Petracca failed a medical or interview and we only heard about that at the exact moment he chose Gold Coast (where he didn't fail the medical or interview apparently?)
