Beautiful leg but slow and ground ball isn’t good enough to be a mid.

He’s a good distributor and is in a team with plentiful half back options, so would make sense. But a midfielder he is not.
He'd actually be great for Port off half back as a distributor. Not for us though.

Trac would’ve been nice but the choice shows he’s happy coast at HFF on big coin
Prob a blessing in long run

If he’s after a flag, Suns is the most obvious choice, madness to think anything else. Elite midfield, excellent forward line, good defence, AFL nepo baby, proven to be able to win a final and away at that. Compared to a team that crawled into September with a 4 man midfield rotation and a gassed 23.

Criticising the success aspect is pretty weak.

I would wonder if Trac asking for more $/years was built around concerns about his potential to earn $ off-field. Either way that's a contract that is just screaming to be an albatross in a couple of years, so not unhappy we skipped, even if the immediate need is there.
The need is almost dire but it was never that dire to go with that along with the bounty we would have had to pony up trade wise to get it done.

I’d be getting into Carlton’s ear if they don’t trade Curnow.

They will want to get ahead of a bid for Dean but if they can’t, they could deal with us.

16, 42 and F1 for 10, 45 and F2.

Let’s them have collateral for Dean with 16. They will still have a pick in the 20s (Silvagni compo) to take a player as well.

More importantly it gives them another first rounder to match a Walker bid in 2026 under the new rules.

We could then send the Carlton F2 to the Lions for Ah Chee.

10 doesn’t guarantee Sharp or Cumming but puts us in a better draft range.

Gut feel is Petracca's preference was strongly towards Gold Coast and the extra money/year was the price to change his mind.

I reckon he will join the Suns without the extra year/money on his normal 4 year contract. Ultimately he will have forced us to walk away on purpose, rather than it being a Crows-led choice
