Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)

If he's the reason that everyone wants to leave why wouldn't they just trade him and keep everyone else, rather than trading him and also trading everyone else?

I am not saying we should be trying to get Oliver but we would be mad not having a chat. This business where every player needs to be a saint is just rubbish. some players thrive in a change. And we are one club that can never be the moral ground for how players should act.

You can't argue that under normal circumstances a player who is worth a 6 year deal on 900k to you isn't worth pick 20 or thereabouts at the trade table.

The issue is his concussions. I am happy with what they are doing generally and prepared to risk the pick 20. But i think that 6 years with 5 of them guaranteed is way too risky for somebody with Starcevich's concussion issues. There need to be protections built into the contract that limit the pay out in the worst case scenario. He should not be being guaranteed any more than 3 years.

There will be mate, I am not worried about it. He will be a terrific addition for us.

Just saw a very very poor fb post about us possibly trying to get Josh Kelly in the Oliver fallout at gws.
Can't see it happening and he was overrated in his prime, still getting paid a fortune probably

Doesnt help he has a hip injnury that could possibly put him out for 3/4's of the season if he has surgery.

Sounds like we would be a hard sell

For sure, but it would be silly not to ask.

The fact that they’re exploring a trade for Flanders and have told him to look at his options is also not a great sign. It’s not necessarily as straightforward as “step down as captain and lose some midfield time.” It’s quite possible that he could go from being the one of the best players at the club to being dropped to the VFL at times throughout the year, similar to what happened to Jack Macrae at the Dogs, because he got crowded out (or shoved out) of his natural role and they didn’t think he was offering enough in his new role.

Yeah sounds like he wants success so guess we can scratch that idea lol

He can enjoy the dizzying highs of the recruiting sugar hit that catapult the Saints into 8th spot before retiring then.

I think IF Flanders lands at the Saints then he will leave but there has been talk he is pretty keen for the Bombers or Melbourne too.

If that's who we're up against to tempt him, the sell isn't nearly as difficult. Sounds like he's hoping for a Hawks, Pies, Cats type arrangement and unlikely to get it.

Right, offer him another year or two at good money and let him know that he'll have a home in the guts.

Given that he's widely respected as a leader and a tough player, culturally it would be an excellent fit. I'd be shocked (and very disappointed) if they weren't sounding out him and his agent almost immediately and seeing how open he is to move west. If they're serious about bringing in that type of established veteran inside mid to support Harley then Steele would have to be Option A, especially given that a trade would be pretty easy to work out since we have a contracted player who wants to move to St Kilda.
Yup if we want him go for him .we have enough cash to splash

give a 3 year deal with an option of coaching at the end of it

I agree, but he apparently really likes the club and his misso is from Melbourne so it's probably not the easiest sell to get him to move to Perth in the twilight of his career. He's already got two years left on his contract so it's not as if coming to the Eagles is his lifeline to staying in the AFL.

He'd be a good fit if he's open to a trade but I could see how he wouldn't be keen to come play for a terrible team on the other side of the country after growing roots in Melbourne for the past decade.
As I said above give him a coaching gig at the end of it...if we want him go for him back yourself in

Look forward to the same poster rekindling the “Eagles are weak and got fleeced again” schtick when we don’t extract a premium pick for Liam “next to useless”’Ryan.
What are you and your boyfriend on about now? Anymore than a polony sandwich for Liam Ryan is in our favour.

I’ll add to this that none of us know what contract value is being offered to Allen or how borderline it is between generating band 1 or band 2 compensation

It may very well be that we need to give up that end of R1 PP to ensure Brisbane lodge a contract that secures pick 2 for us

If we get pick 2 for Allen and land Starcevich without losing any games f our natural picks then that’s a win imo

Some won’t see it that way though
I think if it's borderline between band 1 and 2 it's already in their interest to make it band 1 to ensure they get him for free without us matching. No need for the Starc trade to come into it.
