2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

It's good to see you've been able to move past it though........:thumbsupemoji:
It sure is. Especially when the integrity of your favourite sport had been at stake, as it seemed to be back then.
Whatever it takes as their motto in 2013? Whatever????

On another note I am just about over 1971, 1997, 2009 and 2010 as well...👍
2026, 2027, and 2028 etc now awaits!

Bring it on fairly and squarely.

After this amount of time, I have reached a point where my confidence in Hill (and Wood) off field is pretty absolute.

Seen multiple examples of Hill working with JUH. If GC dont pull the trigger on him, I would be sitting down with Hill and asking him what he thinks. If Hill ticked it off, I would be offering JUH a spot with our seconds. Then make a promise (highly conditional) that if he keeps his nose clean and performs, we will take him mid-season.

Yes I know the risks. And its a moot point if Hardwick gets him over the line anyway. And I am sure there is a bunch of contract stuff we would need to discuss with the AFL. But if he doesnt get to GC, and Hill ticked it off, I would trust his judgement entirely.

Just my 2 cents. But if it comes off, that is the kind of move that really really moves the needle

Something I've been thinking about over the past couple of days is the front loading of contracts.

Its widely accepted that front loading is a big part of the reason we have a huge warchest.

Why is it that numerous sources - both media and connected posters - are discussing getting Steele and Marshall's salary off our books?

I suppose noone really knows the machinations of our salary cap, but I was under the impression these two have had the majority of their contracts paid already.

Carl or Basset said at one point that the saints must find alternative revenue sources instead of selling games (like bulldogs, hawthorn etc) now we have the govt of Fiji and the AFL on board.

Now thats an alternative revenue stream without selling games.
They are doing property developments and all sorts of things for alternate revenue streams. Much broader than what is has been to date.

So what do we think our starting midfield will be? TDK, Nas, Flanders and ???. Windhager maybe? Philipou? Garcia? Feels like it's missing an in and under clearance specialist

Going to be some serious vertical leaping prowess at the Saints next year.

Aleer, Sharman, Pou, Ryan, TDK, Tauru. High flyers on every line.

Even Hastie, NAS and Wilson have a big leap on them.

Wilson actually won the highest running jump at the draft combine, just haven't really seen him fly for his marks yet.
Chuck in Owens, Keeler and Collard

My guess is that it’s risky if you need to get players off the list or they want out, so it would be spread as much as possible. Maybe 20% lower at most?

Really hope we can keep Marshall, we will be far too reliant on King staying fit to make the top 8 if we lose him. We'll be too small up forward again if he can't get on the park.

Even if Marshall kicks say 25 goals, he would free up Sharman and Owens. Could see Sharman kicking 40+ and Owens 30+ if they had a bigger forward next to them.
Agreed, I've tried doing a mock side with and without Marshall and Steele. Steele seems the most easy to cover by a mile. I really think Roma would al be a 1.5 goal a game player if he was playing 60% TOG up FWD.
