Unless Steele is on the table I can’t see how St Kilda have the assets to secure Flyin Ryan. Happy to hold him to his contract if a suitable deal can’t be done. He was good this year. Will be just as good or better with Waterman back and a year older Shanahan building chemistry.
Given St Kilda are giving pick 8 to Gold Coast and we're looking at pick 8, it can work as a three-way trade.

WCE
OUT: 17, Ryan
IN: 8

STK
OUT: 8, F3
IN: Flanders, Ryan

GCS
OUT: Flanders
IN: 17, F3

Who’s calling SOS?
We're giving Ryan away for free here. Swap 24 for 38.

Interesting developments with Jack Steele today.

I have been very firm that he is the guy we should be pursuing to bring across as genuine inside experience for the midfield and it is interesting to see that the Saints have given him a nudge out the door after appearing that wasn't quite on the agenda.

I think it has taken Steele by surprise a little - and his initial reaction that his manager is putting out to Tom Morris that he wants to stay and just be a 'player' for the Saints and be part of their seemingly confirmed upcoming period of success. Let's leave that part alone for now.

I saw an initial suggestion that WCE was a firm 'No.' for Steele.
It would be a shame if he was completely closed to the opportunity but if he's still thinking he wants to stay at the Saints, then he's probably not thinking about uprooting his life and moving to the other side of the country to play out his days as a 'mentor for the kids' in a terrible side. Great players have done it - Luke Hodge for example - but for the most part it's guys who have enjoyed a measure of success. Steele hasn't.

Then there is word that Adelaide might be keen. Interesting. I do wonder if he's really slotting into that Adelaide side, where a guy like Matt Crouch has just finished his days injured and in the SANFL. There would also be the matter of his salary.
That all said - if Adelaide is keen, nobody would blame Steele for going down that road - he could find himself in a better position on the ladder than he ever has.

....but that all said, if the guy can't get his head around the fact that the club he has been captaining for a few years has told him to 'consider his options' and is keen to see out his deal with the Saints.....then he's probably not the guy for us anyway - we need guys who are 100% on board for the next few years, not a guy we need to twist the arm of to see an opportunity.

Interesting to see how it plays out!
Too slow for the modern game in the midfield

SK - Buy everything, sell nothing, few draft picks.

Not quite sure how that works.

Ryan for a future 3rd. Beyond laughable. GTFO Ross.
Also St Kilda - approaching contracted players is disrespectful

Is there anyone else besides Marshall (and possibly Steele) that the Saints are looking to trade out? They might be able to generate some more currency through that avenue.
I haven't seen anything.
You would expect they will get and end of 1st round pick for each as they are contracted for 2 more years.
GEE pick 18, and wherever Steele ends up.
Can't see him leaving VIC so the club with the biggest draft hand and exits would be ESS.

TBH that's Ryan's worth, 20-25 so if we get STK F2nd that ok as we should move some draft capital into next year with Ryan or Chesser trade.
Unless some one pops up in the next little bit with trade and FA period we are probably Starcevich/Young/Dev as the ins at this stage.
If a couple of players get squeezed out of GC like Davies or Humphreys then Davies is a 2nd round pick and Humphreys will be 1 of our 1st round picks.

Sounds like you're completely oblivious to how a negotiation works. I assume you think one party walks in with the perfect deal and the other shakes on it?
I’m not as high on Ryan’s value as a lot of people, but F3 would be a legitimately insulting offer. Like I’d be pissed off SOS or whoever rang up and offered that. I’d counter-offer a 2027 fourth for Nas.

I'd rather keep Ryan (even if he spits the dummy and sits out the year) than take a F3 for him.

I don't want him back though - too lazy and we want guys like Brockman/Dewar/Champion to have room to develop in his position. I'd be telling his manager to line him up with another club (Carlton? Bombers? ).

RTB has form.

He traded Lachie Weller for two top five picks - A Brayshaw and Cerra.

Now that’s robbery.

Our team should laugh him out of the room.

No way is Ryan worth pick 20-25. that's a high price for someone who has scored a career average of 1.3 goals per game.
I hope The Saints are stupid enough to pay that for someone who is past his peak.
