At what point do we just decide to keep Allen. I posted this in the draft board but this whole situation feels like a sideways move now, if not a loss

One thing not getting Starcevich cheap does is hurt the compensation in actuality.

If we get pick 2 to give up pick 22 + 37 for Starcevich and Robertson like Brisbane fans seem to think then we basically end up with pick 12 in a compromised draft for Allen which isnt much of a needle mover for us.

In a way Lions are proposing we give up

Allen + pick 22 + pick 37 for pick CDT

Not so much of a win after that... Its too sideways. Just match Allen, take Starcevich as a free agent and take Robertson in the PSD and move on

Surely you are joking right?

We aren't giving up 37 for Robertson to start with so you can really just take him out of the conversation! You have suggested taking him in the PSD anyway and there's no reason we can't do that anyway.

You'd take 2 & Starcevich for Allen & 22 any day of the week. 2 can also potentially be split to get us say 5 & 23 which pays for Starcevich with that 23.

And also where are you getting we basically end up with pick 12 from? I just can't see any way we are better off doing what you say.

I keep seeing this on X when I search AFL draft combine. The first time I saw the title and thought wtf but then I played the video. NFL draft combine. Pretty funny.

Not really. I think most thing we are giving up pick 22 for Starcevich at this point dont they?

I missed that you had Robertson in there, I thought Brisbane were getting 22 and 37 for Starcevich. But now we’re giving up pick 37 for Robertson? He’s either steak knives in the deal or we’re putting him through the SSP process.

Wow, get back from a 12hr shift and see this thread has moved 15 pages.

Lots of virgins out there I guess.
Im trying to catch up after post wedding drinks last night.
After my initial excitement over bidding on and getting the gold coast kid now there's no way they won't match
And we aren't taking sharp now either
CDT looking more likely too in more bad news

If push comes to shove, we don't take Allen back, but we reneg on Starcevich. The problem we have is we have allegedly offered a half back stopper A grade mid or KPF $900k money. We don't hold the negotiating power. We are going to have to give up #22. If they want #37 for Dev, we say "no thanks".
Sounds like we're aiming for 3 top 10 picks and the rest used on trades/NGA, so what does it matter what we give up if we get what we want anyway?

Sydney & Hawthorn could do with Allen so if Brisbane don't come to the party we could give Oscar a choice of going to them or come home to what we offered you.

Do academy kids have to nominate as academy kids for the draft? I know father-sons have to nominate as father-sons. With all this talk of Patterson, if he can nominate for the open pool, that's a huge win for us.

How is it pick 12? Please don’t say points value, please don’t say points value.

And even if it somehow is “basically Pick 12”, you’re saying pick 12 in a compromised draft is no good so we couldn’t dare lose 22 and 37 in the same draft?

Trade period should be a day long and it should be the day the season finishes to avoid the level of hand wringing some of you seek out.

Take Pick 2 for Oscar Allen I reckon.

(He fell because he killed a teammate in a drag race #murica)

Giving up 22 for Starcevich & getting pick 2 for Allen is a win. It can't be spun any other way. Just get it done
Yes but you’re not factoring in that it’s a shallow draft, so losing Pick 22 is brutal while only gaining Pick 2 back isn’t nearly enough, or some such.

Problem is we think Ryan is worth a R1.

Saints probably think he's worth a R2.

If we can compromise and Saints give us a R1.4 then I say that's a fair deal for everyone.

Was checking Liam's season stats v career stats. I know stats aren't everything, but for some reason, I expected his career stats to be significantly better compared to his 2025 stats.

Such a joy to watch their Groundhog Day implosions.

Too proud to rebuild. Sitting just outside the 8 getting middling picks diluted to fk by f/s and academies.

Thinking they can geelong their way into a flag.

And the kicker is, even if they commit to a rebuild Tassie will screw it for them.
One big difference to Essendon (and Richmond last year) to us in 2022/2023 is that Essendon's and Richmond's players want(ed) to leave the club, wheras, for whatever reason, ours didn't.

On that basis, I have to admire Stephen King coming into Melbourne and going 'whack!'.

Liam had a really good 2025. It would have looked a lot better if the ball spent more time at his end of the ground and we delivered the ball forward properly.

I think I'm going crazy but I swear alot of the same posters who have been banging on for 12 months about the pick 3 trade last year (in a universivally regarded even draft) are now almost begging the club to split pick 2 this year
It’s because they don’t like who we’re rumoured to be targeting there, and when you don’t like a player as a BigFooty poster it’s not enough to say “ah I’d prefer this bloke”, you have to act like the guy is a liability who can’t walk, talk, or breathe and getting him will set the team back decades.

Dovaston and Grlj are tearing apart the combine, I love Dovaston in particular.

Would you guys rather trade up to 6 or trade up to both the Suns teens picks whilst also keeping the Hawthorn pick?

Let’s say it’s Sharp, Robey or Cumming at 6 vs any 3 of these guys - Dovaston, NHH, Farrow, Grlj, Barker, O.Taylor, Emmett, Schubert, Marsh…

I guess the risk is if at least one of the first 4 guys I mentioned aren’t available, it isn’t nearly as exciting.
That's why 6 should guarantee us a choice of Robey, Cumming, Dovaston, Farrow or Barker

We're struggling for spots and moving picks to next year will be difficult this year. So might as well package 17 and 24 and get one of those mentioned, even its a lil reach we can live with that

From my limited knowledge, I'd take Cumming at 2 and Dovaston at GC pick

Given the high risk selection of Duursma, I would steer clear of Robey. Too risky to have 2 guys in one draft on risk potential
