And we can also make under-the table offers to go easy on Uwland/Patterson bids. I'd love both players, but taking Duursma/CDT at 1/2 is really quite plausible, and means GC don't have to match anything higher than 3. With the GC pick, we very likely have Sharp or Cumming available.

Could take it one step further and bid on Annable so they don’t have to match anything until pick 4…

Pick 1 and 2= 5481 points
Pick 4 and 5= 3757 points

Difference =1724 points which is pick 5/6

Also means we should be able to get that pick with 17 + 24 on it's own. The Suns still come out well ahead despite a points loss on paper.

Yes, but I'd expect the AFL to smell something fishy if there's a points loss. Mind you, they signed off Bowes + pick 7 to Geelong, so you can't say the AFL are a paragon of transparency.

That's why I think the Suns might send 7 to Melbourne for Petracca and give us 8 instead. If we're sending a third pick across, I'd expect Davies as part of the deal.

feel like this is getting off track for this thread, but i actually think brockman is capable of being a solid b22 player.

the guy has had 4 different coaches in the first 5 years of his career. he's also moved states and started a family. so despite the significant life changes he's gone through outside of football, and having had absolutely zero continuity from an on-field perspective, i'd argue he HAS shown signs of good decision-making, decent football IQ, and a bit of silk, which our team is sorely lacking. his second year with us was already much better than his first.

still only 22, and at the 56 games mark he should be starting to come into his own. i'll back him in to have a good year in 2026 rather than telling him to get lost

Given we have never been linked with Davies once except for on this board I would bring that "expectation" down to "hope"

For the sake of argument let’s say Brisbane are being dicks. I don’t think they are, but anyway say they’re pushing us with threat of coming up short on a contract that’ll get us Band 1

If it’s Band 2, we match the bid for Oscar forcing them into a trade situation. Also, because we no longer have FA compensation to protect we can lodge FA paperwork for Starcevich and Brisbane having already brought Draper in get nothing for Starcevich (yes they could match but if they were able they’d already have done so)

So they either trade for Allen (using picks they need to match a bid on Annable) or miss out on getting him to the club when they could’ve got him for free. They also miss out on getting the end of R1 priority pick their former CEO so kindly orchestrated for them to get for Starcevich

Oh and we still have pick 1 in this scenario and can bid on Annable forcing them to pay full price

No Allen, nothing for Starcevich and maximum points to match for Annable

Or they could proceed with what’s been arranged - lodge a Band 1 level contract for Allen getting him for free whilst also getting pick 23 (653 points) for Starcevich and in all likelihood a gentleman’s agreement for WCE not to bid on Annable.

West Coast get pick 2 for Allen plus Starcevich without using any of our pre-assistance draft picks

Tell me again why either club wants to **** about with this
In this scenario would they even have enough points for an Annable bid? They go from gaining a pick for Starcevich to losing one (or multiple) for Allen. A pick for AhChee thrown in as well I guess.

Seems like they need this to be done more than we do.

I know I made this argument with Petch, but if people can't see Brockman's potential value to this side (especially as the midfield develops) then they're insane.

I think Mini erred not giving him more time in the midfield as the season progressed.

Apparently the picks Cal was referring to were that STK are offering an F3 for Ryan and then their F2 for GWS F3 and Aleer.

Wouldn’t clean out your locker just yet Liam.
Ross Lyon in August:
“We’re having people talking about our contracted players. You know if you induce people to breach that’s against the law.
“So we’re not mucking around here"

Ross Lyon in October (supposedly)
"We will give you a F3 for your contracted Liam Ryan"

Any chance we can get a “ I need my present club compensated fairly” from Liam Ryan is that only used by our recruiting targets?

If Saints want to chase a 28 year old in contract All australian, but then only offer an F3 then it's abhorrent and we just say no - it is that simple. I dont care if Liam comes back and doesnt maximise his ability, accepting that trade would be embarassing and continue the horrible precedent of us being bent over at the trade table.

I’m not sure claiming it’s insanity for not appreciating the “potential” of Brockman is quite them right take on his critics.

More so, it’s realising that Brockman’s flaws are holding back his otherwise potential.

Seems to miss taking the moment too often, which is in part as a result of not line balling the pill (ie he is not adverse to bruise free footy) and not reaching the level of fitness he should be at.

He could be our Switta, but needs to work way harder.

Sharps kicking may be a bit loopy but he kicks to advantage.Cummings is a good kick for goal but a brief look at his highlights I thought he was an ordinary field kick.
He’s super hard at the contest to the point I think he will get injured a lot!
Whoever we draft MUST have good skills. We have enough shit kicks in our team without adding high accumulating/shit kickers.
Rodrigues kicks extremely well off both feet and I’d certainly want him somewhere.Farrow is another. Dursma as well.
Pattinson being described as a bit shonky in the disposal dept.

Where's the Lian Ryan for an F3 talk coming from?

Anything other than we're in talks for pick swaps?

Was a tweet yesterday from one of the myriad of vanilla-faced pencil-necked poindexter AFL "journos" on X.
