2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

I have the misfortune of following two sporting teams closely. St Kilda and the Philadelphia 76ers.

I said I've never seen anything like saints players forgetting how to play, but that wasn't true. Philadelphia had back to back number 1 picks in Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz and they both also literally forgot how to play.

I wonder why I bother following sport sometimes.
I was on the 76ers train when they drafted Ben. Luckily I moved onto Thunder when Josh got drafted and never jumped off. Last season was glorious

So much negging
This made me chuckle. So I did some research. 12 months ago…

Meanwhile Jenkins had no problems with pick 12 for Judd McVee (He's at best going for a pick upgrade)

"If it means overpaying a little to get a player thats going to make you better, you just get it done"

One of these responses is not like the other

Ruckman Rowan Marshall wants to go to Geelong but St Kilda are prepared to keep him if there isn't a satisfactory deal, while as yet there are no offers for Jack Steele.
But Purple said Flanders was a mid 20's pick and we should just take pick 18 for Marshall.
Are you doubting the great Purple?

I'm not trying to be rude but you probably aren't the best judge of talent either so find your dismissal of Armoooo's opinion amusing.

Armoooo's opinion is in line with much more reputable thinkers than yourself, chief.

Adam Kingsley chose to select Aleer for every game in GWS' race for finals - except Round 20 where he was rested and then brought straight back in.

And also the recruiting team at the Saints clearly rate Aleer as an addition to the list - SOS, Gubby and Ross.

Fair enough to have a different opinion but your outright dismissal is actually comical.

As for what I think about Aleer...he has some elite athletic and physical traits. Has only played 25 games of AFL football. For what we are getting him for....a likely F3 and a modest salary - there is plenty to work with.

The Saints clearly see Aleer as a versatile defender who can play both tall and small. He definitely has a fair bit of work to go in terms of being an elite defender but he is only a baby in terms of experience.
I think armoooo has a voice and certainly doesn’t need any help from you.

Frankly I don’t rate the nonsense you post, I can’t work out if you’re 15 or just some sad git. You’ve stalked me on here leaving thumbs down on post after post. Did one of my posts hurt you’re feeling, question your knowledge, prick your pride, I don’t care put me on ignore.

It’s a football forum, poster’s have different opinions, suck it up.

Full interview of Gubby being cooked

Masterclass in being a reluctant trade radio interviewee!

Gubbys Tips:
  • Pretend to be open and expansive
  • Speak reeeeally slooooowly so the interviewer has time for less questions
  • Open ended and vague are the keywords
  • Always leave your audience wanting more

Looking at the list, if we assume Marshall gone, it seems the biggest holes:

1. Centre half forward:
  • I’m not convinced Caminiti is the answer forward.
  • Sharman/Owens are undersized
  • We can’t rely on King. And if he goes down we have 0 high caliber Key forwards.
  • If King is fit and we play a fast ball movement game plan this could work but some big Ifs.
  • Do we commit to Tauru in this role?
  • if we’re serious about playing finals/contending in the next couple of years it makes zero sense getting rid of Marshall while we have no alternative.

2. Lock down back pocket:
I’m fans of Hastie and O’Connell BUT as this stage we’re projecting they will be good AFL footballers and can play the role.
Perhaps we back in one of those 2?
Or do we roll the dice and play the 4 talls and 2 half back?
I think Viking has to go forward.

Lockdown LOC is the obvious choice.

Will Purple's head explode on live TV if we actually won another flag. He seems to hate us with a passion.

He did his achilles in 2021. He returned to have his best statistical year in 2022. His last 3 years have been absolute trash.

Suggesting that his achilles was what has caused him to regress in all but his comeback year is an even weirder take IMO.
Was the exact same dump-it-forward numpty we were seeing with Marshall at the beginning of this season.

is purple on drugs. his made up deal for the marshall trade was literally the stupidest shit ive heard since nathan brown was on there. what utter trash.
