Round 1: 1, 2, 13

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)

Maybe they plan on trading it to a different team? I’m sure what they say in these media interviews carries little weight in the negotiating room. Obviously impacts fans’ blood pressure though
You don’t rule it out incase someone makes a godfather offer. For example, the GCS because they need points. Or BNE for that matter by including their F1 or many other permutations that neither of us have dreamt up

Brisbane clearly expect pick 19 for Starcevich. We offered 23 and if they said 19, good chance it would be in the middle somewhere between 19 and 23. I dont blame them for asking for 16. Middle ground between 23 and 16 gets them what they expected in pick 19.
We have 22 PP and 23 2nd rounder

Think we offered 23 but who knows 🤷‍♂️

Its just a horrible way to answer that question.

If I offered you something and asked a higher price than its worth and you said, "Ideally" I dont want to pay that and "at this stage" you don't want to, I would be thinking you will pay it eventually.

So if Brisbane don't accept our offer for Starcevich and choose not to match they will receive an end of first round pick as compo anyway or is their some machinations that I'm not aware of?

They [the Lions] would get nothing as they've already taken S.Draper from Essendon as a free agent.

Brisbane can only get something for B.Starcevic via a trade with West Coast - otherwise they lose him for zero.

It further demonstrates why their stance on this is so infuriating, and why West Coast simply cannot cave in to their posturing.

It doesn't really matter what Oscar Allen thought was going to happen a month ago at a function. We are where we are now.

I had a chat with Oscar and Andrew at a function in Melbs on grand final eve and Oscar was definitely not 100% certain. He said the Eagles could still match and force a trade and it was creating a bit of uncertainty with his wedding coming up and not knowing what might happen - where they’d be living etc etc.

I also think that media doorstop / presser from Clarke was bang on, a much better performance and far stronger on the key points than earlier with the AFL trade numpty. Sure the club would be providing media training and looks to be paying off.

Keys - can you please pin the presser? It’s a much more expansive overview of WCE position on key deals than the Twomey chit chat.
Different way he answered it in his Brownlow red carpet on camera. Even took the Kick it forward guys by surprise how he answered the question. Might’ve got a kick up the ass after that from his manager and the Lions.

Even the Rhino interview there was no ifs/buts it was talking about getting over there

I sorta agree with you, but perhaps also it is on the table for the right trade though (for better or worse), and rather than get absolutely roasted by the fans when it's traded by saying it's not gonna happen, he's been advised to be ambiguous in his answers about possible moving parts?

Clarkes interview was pretty good except I didnt like this answer. Shouldve been an emphatic no chance, instead he said - Ideally and at this stage.

On pick 16 not being part of any Starcevich trade:

“Ideally, yes. We think it’s a really valuable pick and we put a lot of work into that last year getting that in, so yeah at this stage that’s going to stay with us.”
If it was involved in a round about three way trade then perhaps we’d let it go is how I took it, or perhaps it had its own purpose - not for this trade

I understand where you’re coming from, I think it was poor wording and old mate Clarke isn’t the most articulate dude when speaking, but I think the intent is right

The fact that Chesser has played 36 mostly bad matches in the four years since he was drafted is a lot more relevant to his trade value than being picked 14th overall.

Young is already 27. Chesser had 4 injury interupted seasons and is still only 22. Agree that most of the 36 games were bad. Still somebody saw something to select him in first round.

Maybe Freo should offer Melbourne a turd in a box since McVee was only the 18th pick in that year’s rookie draft.

What should we then sent Richmond for Young who was a pick 26 in the rookie draft ? Half a turd in a bag?

Maybe, he seemed pretty earnest in the conversation but I don’t know the guy so who knows. Time will tell

Think we gonna need another bed, not a double, nor a queen, a superior ultra king size bed with deluxe absorbency mattress...and a matching-sized overspill pan under the bed, with a bonus mop and bucket thrown in.
Mop and I were born for these moments. Team wet sheets don't stand a chance

Got a right to be fairly confident in his abilities, have a look at their list!!
That said I thought he was just doing what list managers should, try and get the best deal they can for the club.
That's a very reasonable take and I don't care for it one bit! 😆

It's easy to be confident while being showered with freebies and having your CEO move into a position of power in the AFL.

Personally I think when Clarke was asked if pick 16 was on the table for Starcevich, he should have laid out a picnic table, then carefully placed a ping-pong ball with No.16 written on it on the middle of the table, then choke-slammed a mannequin with Oscar Allen's face into the table breaking it.

Would have sent a message... Not exactly sure what message... But hopefully a strong one.

Do the “send Oscar to another club, **** Brisbane!” crowd actually understand the concept of free agency?

He goes wherever the hell he wants - we can’t just call Dean Cox like “hey mate, we’ve had enough of Brisbane - do you want Allen instead?”

Please enter the real world instead of 15 extra pages of junk.

Hes a newbie and he's really out of his depth.

Hes a newbie and he's really out of his depth.

He was a recruiting manager at Tigers and then we promoted him to List Manager with the move. Its obviously very different role. One you just sit in a room and pick players. The other you construct the list but more relevantly to this discussion, negotiate privately with other clubs but also in public via what is said in the media. There must be a question whether he has the additional skill set or the personality requited for the LM role but we should give him time.

If i was Starcevich, even if i desired to leave the club on good terms, i would be getting p***ed at Brisbane. The difference between what we are offering him and what Brisbane can offer is probably a mile wide. He is entitled to leave and take up the better offer. If i was him and Brisbane were messing around with my financial future with these games i would be wanting to make public threats to them to take what is on the table or i will leave for nothing.

Brisbane list manager acting very arrogant here
I was laughing when I heard him talking about Ah Chee and how important he is, and his selling point was that was how good their winning percentage is in games that Ah Chee has played in. Yeah no shit, because your worst home and away record since he arrived was 14 wins, 8 losses, 1 draw (and that was last year when they won the bloody premiership). Literally everyone who has been at the Lions for the past few years has won a lot more than they’ve lost.

Real “could sell bacon to a vegan” vibes with that dude.
