Clubs that want to be relevant just make shit happen. Lions traded a whole suite of early to mid first rounders for players years ago. Look how that turned out. You need to be active and not just rely on the draft to build a list. Otherwise you fall behind in the relevance ladder which makes it much harder to attract FAs later.

The only mutually beneficial trade I can possibly see considering Freo are involved and Bris get 16 would be something like

Eagles trade: 16 + 23 + 37
Brisbane Trade: Starcevich + 19
Freo Trade: 12 + 33

Eagles get: Starcevich + 12
Brisbane get: 16 + 33 + 37
Freo get: 19 + 23

Of course Eagles could have also just been bent over.
