List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)

Yeah, lets all be little children and pretend that if we ignore problems and make believe that we can't see them they will just magically go away.
People complain that we don’t use our money as a rich club to get one up on the comp. This is a perfect example of exactly how to do so.

Starc gets a concussion and is medically retired. Whatever we have to pay him out isn’t part of the salary cap as he is medically retired. So all he’s gonna cost us is money.

Money which we have plenty of.

The upside is he could play for a couple years and be just as good as he was at Brisbane - we desperately need experienced players.

I reckon Starcevich is a great get for us. We will not be using this guy as a back pocket lock down player.

Oh I'm happy with his recruitment, just had enough of the repetitive concussion stuff - we're all aware of it.

Right.

We basically give 22 to Brisbane for Starcevich, which is what was more or less agreed at the time the priority pick was issued.

Then we trade 16 and 23 for 12, 33 and 50. This is almost exactly equal on points, but we end up with a higher pick, plus handy lower picks for Young, matching FS/NGA bids, or trading up further.

I am neither happy nor unhappy with this result.

Well that means its a decent result.

I get wanting to move up the order, but for a team holding picks 1, 2* and 12 (which we literally just traded up for), it’s pretty funny seeing people lose their minds over "not being able to trade up".

How’s it a good deal? We now don’t have the points to move up the order, we just gave 16,22 and 23 away for a bloke who’ll be medically retired if he gets concussed again and for pick 12.

Trying to see the light here but I can’t, the deal in itself isn’t horrific but factoring in we now can’t trade up is what makes it horrible to me.

Why trade up when we can just trade down from Pick 2 & gain an extra pick somewhere.

12 + some combination of 33, Chesser trade, Ryan trade could get us a GC top-10 pick.

Well we just locked in a trade on Tuesday that could've been done any time between now and next Wednesday. For what benefit exactly?
Because, just like you said yourself, trade week ends next Wednesday.

Unless you think this is the only trade WCE will be involved in, for some reason?

He missed three months just this year with concussion.

Three ****ing months.

And again I am asking why are we drafting him then? Surely the club knows more than us yes? With all we have been through the last few years not even our club could be so silly to have a bloke who is teetering on collapse if he touches anyone sign on for 5-6 years without some protection?
