2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

Pick 7 for Flanders is way overs when you consider Geelong traded 17 for Bailey Smith.

I'd prefer we keep drafting. Trading 1st round picks is something I'm generally opposed to, unless you're getting someone truly elite.
Did you see Vibes finished 6th in Carltons best and fairest? Even playing forward for the second half of the season? That was one of your big knocks on him, wasn't it?
Or just moved onto Flanders now?
Pick 7 won't be pick 7 on the night by the way.

We just picked up a FT midfielder who came 3rd in their best and fairest and had the same amount of Brownlowe votes as McCluggage and more then Josh Dunkley, Sinclair and Max Holmes in 2024.

This all happened when played in his prefered position mid/HB

Why the change, because dimma has favourites, bringing in roili and Noble pushed him fwd, GC new last year if they didn't give Humphrey minutes in the middle he was requesting a trade.

Which resulted in less minutes for flanders in the middle.

Pick 7 in a weak draft which will be pushed to pick 11ish for a contacted midfielder is fair value.

Considering we have been screaming for mids for 15 years I thought some would be happy, you need to lay off the pipe and enjoy the ride.

The question I was referring to was why Flanders only got 53 centre bounce attendances in 2025

Either he was playing injured, or he was deemed a terrible fit alongside Rowell/Anderson for some reason, or he's not as good as everyone thinks

Presumably the explanation would be one of those.
You’ve also questioned why we are taking a 24 year old, rather than going to the draft.

That was my answer.

6th on a team who didn't get anywhere near finals- that's meant to impress me?

Last year he was 7th.

Maybe next year at St Kilda he'll be 5th....

Yes and what I'm saying is if this was a generational draft, this would be a clear overpay based on what we know of Flanders and the likelihood of picking up a gun with that pick considering the probabilities. If it's an average draft I'd argue it's still an overpay. If it's a shithouse draft then I'm fine with it.

At this time of year this gif always makes sense:

Even when 7 slides these are the guys we won't have access to.

Fair point, the back thing is a major concern though, surely?

My philosophy is not trading picks. You might recall a decade ago we traded almost the same pick for a guy who ended up retiring early due to back issues.

Time will tell! It could go either way.
The pick we traded for Carlisle was used on Aaron Francis, so even then it suits our argument over yours aha.

That makes me think of Schoenmaker who is uncontracted at this moment.
Will he have any trade value in two years' time given he is Tasmanian?
Will it be worthwhile to hang on to him until then (given our desire for list spots for other needs)?
His kicking can be a gamechanger, do we want to keep him on the list for what he offers the team?
Barely got a senior game this season and now there’ll be a lot more competition.

Highly doubt he’s going to get us any decent trade value, so is it really worth him taking a list spot?

also worth noting the consistency of his performance, polling coaches votes in 13 games. only 2025 Nas, 2020-21 Steele and 2009 Dal & Roo have polled in more games in a single season for us. if he recaptures that form pick 8 is a steal. fingers crossed his back is okay. good business by both clubs
