2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

Making statements like Liam Ryan won't do much for us.
Dunno, seems like a throwaway line.
Probably has already boosted membership, for anyone who has seen his highlights reel, there's alot of entertainment there.
And I bet that there is going to be more kids 'bed wetting' in anticipation of seeing a speccy or weaving through traffic, from him.
I'm excited until l'm not.

St Kilda are the new darlings of the press. Just look at these gems about our latest act of treachery.

1) 'leaving Aleer in limbo'
2) 'recruits to second-guess the Saints’ reliability in future'
3) 'unexpected pivots'
4) 'Saints quietly pulled out'
5) 'Trust is currency in trade dealings.'
6) 'high-profile backflip'
7) 'Without him, St Kilda will..potentially sacrifice defensive balance.'
8) 'raises questions about cap management'

And the best one, produced by somebody else on here, not me:

Wanting a F2 for Aleer while all the teams crying out for defenders have no interest in him after yesterday. nods We are the problem.

4 trades done no f**king messing about.

Bad St Kilda, Bad.

Yup checks out.

Yeah looks Leek has a choice between GWS ............................. and six other clubs.

If I was him I'd be ringing my manager and saying - this time don't f*** it up.

These may be coincidences, but a couple of interesting things I have noted out of the Aleer saga:

  • Gubby sent the text to Aleer's management not long after Dilena was on Trade Radio. Coincidence or planned so Dilena didn't need to answer questions?
  • St Kilda hasn't bothered to speak publicly since the withdrew from the Aleer deal - either in a statement or even through feeding chooks. Does that mean they just don't give a f*** or they are keen for the story to blow over?
  • This standard of communication to the press has been a feature of the current St Kilda administration. There was barely any significant chat about Nas' contract, Windy's contract and nothing about Wilkie's Bulldogs link. To me, this signals confidence in the decision making and the process.
  • The only time the Saints coordinated any significant press whatsoever was Lyon and Wilkie regarding the initial exodus story - and I'm guessing because that story was implying a lot of things were wrong - which likely wasn't true or highly exaggerated.
  • A club only defends their position if they feel they need to, and for whatever reason, the Saints haven't really defended anything recently (aside from the exodus fantasy) and just got on aggressively with their business.

As for Aleer, as an isolated incident it isn't a great look by current conventions, but I like the fact the club is being ruthless with its decision making for betterment of the club. Wrapping up other deals quickly and efficiently does offset part of any negativity around the Aleer withdrawal too.

As a footnote, ironically, Rucci's exodus story could have definitely come true or at least partly true in a different world. Wilkie takes bulk extra coin at Dogs, Steele finds a new home, Geelong satisfy Saints for Marshall and Windy wanted extra coin and years elsewhere. Instead, it looks like all four could stay. Maybe a Sliding Doors for Purple? :p

You go shopping for a house with a budget. If you spend over your budget, you’re often paying the price once you move in because you can’t upgrade your furniture to suit the house.

We didn’t want to be in a position where we couldn’t afford other things we want or need in the future.

I will never understand how purple got into a position where he reports on his opinions. Hosting, sure, fine, reporting on facts, whatever. But his opinion is about as valuable as the shit I took this morning
Love that clip of him signing footballs. I bet the lucky kids that scored them will pass them on for generations to come
