Could be a driver in Mackie valuing his future firstsDifficult to say given the AFL have made nothing public about it. Apparently the clubs have been told which is something I guess.
You want Sydney and Geelong to be clairvoyants or something? It's all well and good to be telling clubs in trade discussions to do Carlton's job for them.
But this has the downside of potentially ruining the relationship that Sydney and Geelong have built with their players by essentially signalling to some of them that they don't value them as much as some other player on another team by asking them if they'd like to move to a poorly performing club (in the case of Geelong to Carlton) to facilitate that trade.
Screw that, if Carlton is interested in a player at Geelong (maybe Sydney feel differently) you have to reach out to them yourselves and signal interest, not expect Geelong to damage their relationship with their players in a fishing expedition to get a trade done.
This also solves the issue of quickly finding out which player Carlton is actually interested in instead of Geelong going in a fishing expedition until they finally arrive at the player Carlton thinks would make a fair trade, potentially upsetting half the team in the process.

Well STFU then. Why are you in this thread complaining about Carlton not accepting the magic beans offer, you grifting keyboard hero?
But Carlton don't want to trade Charlie Curnow?
He's contracted for four more years. We don't have to trade him. We don't have a replacement full forward ready to go. Our other key forward has had concussion and other on-field problems.
We're also at a bit of a cross-roads as a club. Our coach has one more year left on his contract and we're coming off a down (but not THAT bad year- we still finished 11th). We've lost Docherty, TDK and Silvagni, and brought in Ainsworth and Chesser and are chasing some other mature recruits...
This year, we don't seem that interested in the draft as it's not that strong, we brought in a lot of young guys last year who are still proving themselves, and we have a couple of F/S and academy prospects that we've a) got the currency for and b) fit really well into the list.
It makes a lot more sense for us to just keep Charlie, see how it all looks in what will likely be a bounce-back year for a few players, and hopefully a longer offseason and a cleaner bill of health. There's still plenty of top end talent if we bookend the team with Weitering/Curnow/McKay and roll out Cripps/Walsh plus depth in the midfield. If we don't like how it looks next year, then we're probably moving onto a new coach, and maybe a bit more trading Curnow (and potentially Walsh leaving as a FA) allows a new group to shape the list whatever way they want, via a much deeper draft - and can just take two first round picks NEXT year in addition to Walker and load up then.
The only person who doesn't seem to get this is Curnow's peanut of an agent, who is repeating his failed Petracca moves from last year. To what end, I'm not sure - he wrote the contract that Curnow has now, knows exactly what that means, and yet still seems to think he can publicly play this out in a way that benefits his client
But it's not on Carlton to go shopping for players for a trade we don't really want to make, and in particular, that Geelong won't release anyway. Seriously - who are you giving up that moves the needle for Carlton? Because if they don't actually make us better, why would we trade him? There's a list of Geelong players that would make us better by filling glaring gaps, but given we're losing Curnow we need TWO of them (ie: to actually surpass his value) - to me that's probably TWO of Dempsey, Miers, SDK, Neale, etc. Is that on the table? If not, why would we bother?
There IS a path to getting Curnow and it's not a handful of hypothetical draft picks.

You are like a bad smelling turd that won't flush. No need to get upset Arty, you get very upset when Geelong can’t get players for a packet of twisties. Now now.
Curnow is gone, whether is this year or the next or to Geelong, Sydney or some other club you're merely delaying the inevitable. This is now a salvaging process that Carlton is reluctant to accept but will eventually have to, just like Geelong did with Kelly, GAJ and the Dees with Trac and Clarry. Them's the break I'm afraid, trust me you don't want to keep a player that doesn't want to be there, it'll all end in tears.

This is true Daniher also.
Fact of the matter is Melbourne could of well been on their way to finializing their rebuild had they traded Oliver and Trac 24 months ago.
Very few instances happen like Papley.

Do clubs still do this? Feel like players can do a medical anywhere nowadays and the club will just get the resultsIf it's true that the Calton recruitment team when to Sydney to do some medicals with a couple of Swans players then both clubs would know what a deal should look like.
Well apparently they were seen boarding a plane to Sydney. Could have been going for a weekend swim at Bondi. Who knows what's going on.Do clubs still do this? Feel like players can do a medical anywhere nowadays and the club will just get the results
I'd rather Goldberg than JOM tbhSo um Freo can offer you a packet of half sucked twisties &JOM
How about it Carlton?

Thing is if the Blues don't take the three (3) first rounders on offer early enough, one (1) of those will be shipped to the Saints for Marshall once they cave, leaving only two (2) first rounders for the Blues. The clock is ticking, Geelong first rounders are going fast, so get 'em while you can.
Wrong one - thought you'd be all over it given your profile picture/name![]()
Well he appears to have a good kick on him

Was Agresta and Luff and I believe the story was that they were going to talk to a few players rather than completing medicals. If it's true that the Calton recruitment team went to Sydney to do some medicals with a couple of Swans players then both clubs would know what a deal should look like.
