2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

Hope we’ve got a game plan if both these picks do find their way to the Demons. Patterson may well be in the table but we have to bid on Uwland at 1.

That goes through and the Suns either concede on Patterson or they have to trade someone else out of value.
Walter and Davis for 2 and 13 or 1 Duursma and 2 Patterson.

Evidence:
Friejah/Roberts + Boxhall >> Hall
In fact, any one of those players > Hall

We paid a F3 to jump 2 spots from 40 to 38 to take Hall (a one-dimensional prospect with multiple obvious flaws) while Freijah, Archie Roberts, Joe Fonti, and Humphries (who in fairness we'd likely not have taken) were all available.

With that F3 would likely would have gotten Boxhall, or simply one of Gross/Grego without compromising our future draft hand.

And this is not hindsight. It was predicted by many on this board on draft night.

The only way the trade made any sense was if they expected us to rocket up the ladder in 2024, which would have been delusional.

Stop making stuff up. I searched clay hall thread and there was no talk of freijah or boxhall.

We already had a F3. So how was draft compromised. You are talking about a handful of spots at about pick 40.

Still no evidence on how 12 months earlier it was known that this player would be a god available at pick 45. What you are giving is hindsight analysis and everyone is an expert like that.

It’s like saying I drove down Reid hwy and ended up in an accident. It was therefore a poor decision by me and my fault.

Welcome to West Coast Dylan Patterson.

We have paid slight overs in all our trades so far… not ideal. I still hope we can trade up somehow, without giving up pick 1 and 2.
I think we’ve gotten mail that GC are trading 7 & 8 so it doesn’t really matter if there is 50 points difference between 38 & 41.

We’ll bid on the GC boys now, hopefully loosen Patterson from their grip, keep 13 and now have the picks to match Tylar.

It is what it is.

At least I'm still in bed. Don't have to go anywhere to wet it. 💁

Still I'm wondering what the play is here? I'm concerned that we won't be equipped to match for our NGAs..
We've only got Williams possibly to be id on early, which pick 34 should cover on its own, if not we add 41. Can't see any bids on players before then.

Pick 38 better than using 34 but a slight overpay when we had 41 sitting there. Points difference between the picks is 57 (equivalent to pick 51) so negligible but still mildly annoying depending on what our bigger picture plans are

Draft hand now sits at 1,2,13,34,41,53,58

If we’re bundling up 13,34,38 to move up does 57 points make a material difference?

Or are we anticipating at that point of the draft we might be needing to match a bid on Tylah Williams so probably doesn’t impact our ability to match

Difference between who’s available at 38 to 41 not much and every possibility that we’d be able to get the same player

Does continue the trend of Clarke appearing to concede ground in deals that was unnecessary looking on from outside

Welcome to West Coast Tylar Young - if he can play 4-5 seasons as a dependable CHB I don’t think we’ll worry too much about 3 spots in a draft

Would be good if we could have gone to them at the start of trade period with something like this but obviously didn’t have the Oscar compo.

Very unlikely those boys get moved on this late in the piece despite a little bit of smoke throughout the year but this is exactly how we should be thinking 👍

I haven’t been too critical of Clarke’s performance this trade period but this is yet another overpay to his former employers only this time when we held all the cards with a low value player and pick 1 in the PSD.
