Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

There is talk we are cooking up another deal with some theories it's Cam Mackenzie at the Hawks as part of Merrett deal. Marshall trade could be involved in that.
Saints and Dee's very interested. FF involved but I hope it falls . I rate Mackenzie really highly since his draft year.

Yeah, it's as braindead as one of us repeatedly declaring "Take Geelong's 2025 R1 pick for Marshall or your club is doomed forever! We will never offer anything else". But fair enough if some people are stimulated by that kind of nonsense.
The thing is that your offer for Marshall was disrepectful.
You desperately need him to stay relevant next year yet you offered one crappy pick, plus he's a contracted player.

Pick 19 in this weak compromised draft is not much.
Pretty much every second draft is characterised as "weak", and most of those predictions tend not to hold much water 10 years after the fact.

Pick 19 is still a good pick in any draft, tbh. Well, bar 2003. That one was genuinely a pile of steaming hot garbage.

It is weak according to all recruiters.

Honestly, a combination of all of the above. I think there's just a miscommunication between the fanbases here.

I don't think any Geelong supporter believes we're not a better side next year with Marshall introduced. He is clearly an upgrade on what we have and, in theory, improves us.

From what I've seen, they're just disagreeing with the premise that he's the 'missing piece' or bringing up the last 45 minutes of the GF as the justification Mackie & Co must go all out to get him.

Marshall makes us better - but is his improvement so immense that Geelong shouldn't walk away at what they perceive to be 'overs'? I could easily be wrong, but I don't believe so.

I don't think adding Marshall means we're beating Brisbane next year, and I think Mackie and the powerbrokers of the GFC agree.

Whereas with Curnow, rightly or wrongly, I believe Mackie (and more likely Scott) think he could have that impact, hence their greater show of accommodation in that deal.

Nevertheless, he's an upgrade on what we have and has sounded the club out, and you do your due diligence on that. Improvement is part of the sport at the end of the day, even if it doesn't guarantee the ultimate success.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting St Kilda don't have a right to disagree with what Geelong perceive as 'overs'. He's a contracted player, and they absolutely have that right.

I'm just explaining what I believe the Geelong position to be. Same as the Curnow vs Marshall stuff.

After 15 years of having Chris Scott coach my club, it's not hard to guess who he'd be more excited to coach, and in turn, who he believes gives him the greater chance of bridging the cap the Lions have on the competition.
Is Marshall the missing piece maybe not , but the way I look at it your ruck division got beat easily in the grand final , and since then Brisbane has gone out and significantly improved there 1st ruck so I wouldn’t be underplaying how important Geelong improving there ruck stocks would be
So literally what almost every Geelong fan has been saying all along.
If you changed the 25 first rounder for your 26 one I believe its a deal we might accept

What hope do you have of finishing above Geelong if you give them Marshall?

I haven't offered anything for Marshall.

The club I support don't desperately need him to stay relevant next year.

It's not a crappy pick for a mature B grade ruckman.

You finally got one thing right: he's contracted and St Kilda have a right to keep him if he is required.

Geelong have made excellent use of so called "useless" picks before. I'm sure if it comes to it they'll back themselves in to do the same again.

Who knows what’s going to happen, but 2026 is looking like being a strong draft you would have to pull the trigger on a trade if your getting back a first sand second round pick that’s a to good to refuse deal, I don’t believe Geelong would actually offer that though

Everyone said this in 2020 and we got Holmes and neale out of it. It shows something.
Man, we were apparently super keen on Holmes in 2020, and all reports were that he was going to slip a bit.

We traded our future second and out first down for Jack Higgins, which put you guys above us. Y'all picked Holmes, and we were left to pick up Mathew Allison, who never even got close to playing a game.

I love Higgo, and he's been super important for us over the years. But I wish we had found another way to get him.

Neale, lol

Christ almighty have you ever watched him? Genuine liability unless against bottom 4 sides in Sleepy Hollow
His finals series was poor but Neale still kicked 19 goals from 11 games against the top 10 teams in H&A. Hardly disastrous for his first full season as a KPF in the seniors. He still hasn't even played 50 games. There's going to be ups and downs given he wasn't a top 10 pick.

A first round pick for a 29 year old surplus to requirements ruckman was disrespectful?

You may feel disrespected by Geelong but I assure you it's nothing to do with the trade offer

Finished top 2, a game off of finishing Minor Premiers and made the Grand Final. Beat all of the other top 9 teams bar one team who did nothing come Finals time.

“You need a 30 year old Ruck to stay relevant”

Holy jeebus if this is the kind of brain dead discussion we are going to see that is making us all dumber reading it then maybe we need to shut down this thread till the trade is done…
