How did we make it harder?

We ended up with more points.

It's irrelevant now anyway, because it appears Melbourne will hold GC's top 10 picks, courtesy of Petracca.

Points won't matter in that instance.
No we didn’t? We lost points, not a significant amount considering we traded the equivalent of 23 for Starcevich, but we still lost points.

Again, not saying that deal was bad, it was fine, but I’m not going to sit here and pretend like we haven’t come out second best in every other deal.

It’s not that I don’t think Young will be worth 38, it’s that we had all the leverage and once again didn’t utilise it.

I also find it funny how this board goes from “Starcevich shouldn’t cost more than the Hawks 2nd”, “Young shouldn’t cost more than a pick in the 50’s”, “Ryan is a contracted player, we’re better of keeping him than a F2” to we’ve done awesome in every deal, it’s pure copium.

Can you imagine what we’d give up if a star requested to come here?

Geez Assumed Tylar Young was Young but guess its just his name. obviously been around a bit but never heard of him before this trade period.

All the best Tylar

He hasn't been around a bit, debuted in the AFL as a mature rookie and has only been on Richmond's list a few years and missed a big chunk with an ACL.

it’s going to end up in the 40s and is a pick we won’t use.. it’s has no relevance to us so it’s no loss

If we need the pick as insurance to cover a bid in the mid 30s then no harm no foul.

Matching with 38 versus matching with 41 there is zero difference to us. We would lose the pick on the bid anyway.

Now if we use that pick in the draft and so do Richmond with 38 then it's a tad silly.

Richmond likely lose that 38 on a bid for Kellaway.

Time will tell.

I'm sure sheets are being changed and put in the wash at this point already.....but that's someone else's problem.

I'm fine with the trade and it returns a balance to our KPD stocks, age wise:

Brock - 21
Hedwards - 25
Young - 27

We probably want to pick one up this year or next year as cover for Young when he approaches 30+. Young may not be here for our next flag, but is needed as cover for Hedwards and Brock while they're 'learning' through 70+ I50s a game.

Swapping Barrass for a younger KPD and a first round pick is good business at this stage of our build.

The job isn't to win trade week, it's to improve the side moving forward. That's happened and we still have the opportunity to improve further on draft night if Essendon or Melbourne get desperate for pick 2.

People like to question where this apparent 'goodwill' comes from for easily facilitating trades but it's not just the clubs WCE are trying to work with, there's the player managers also.

We also won't be using pick 38 anyway, so I don't see any point getting nitpicky over using that or 41.

Sounds like the views of a few individual posters, not everyone.

Going into this trade period, I thought Starc for the assistance pick and hoped Young for Chesser. Sad for Ryan leaving but not about the trade. This isn't the trade period (so far!) to be upset. Unless you wanted to WIN the trade period, that's going to end in upset more often than not.

I havnt seen anyone say we've done awesome. I think we all agree we got slight unders for the deals.
We didn't get bent over though. And no other teams supporters are dancing around about our deals with them.

So we’ve once again gone from moving up the board to splitting a top 2 pick, proving my point that we made it harder for ourselves.

No one said the goal is to win trade week, but constantly being involved deals where the other team clearly ends up being the happier party is frustrating.

Lol they have the 18th pick in the PSD. Why wouldn't the other 17 teams pick him up first?

Paul Connors was calling the clubs with PSD picks before the dogs to tell them not to pick smith or else last year.

We’d really need to put something to him that he’d accept. We should keep quiet and IF a trade isn’t done then we offer far greater money with no draft capital cost.

If we says no to us we won’t take him. Won’t be like Nick Stevens and Carlton.

Its a case of being in the power position and still finding a way to lose that annoys me the most. Both Starcevich/Young overpays have cost us the chance of moving that Hawk 1st rounder into the top 10 when its all said and done

Having a player agent mad at you vs getting Ah Chee for free. I know which one I'd pick. Screw those guys, surely that's some sort of illegal draft tampering.
