His deal was hugely front ended apparently. Not paying him a whole lot right now and future. Surprisingly good management by us for once.
The current money is 900+. FFS. We paid 1m plus for eternity. He was running around telling oppo that he was the highest paid player on the field. Collingwood even said they would turn the remainder of his contract over 5 years. HE IS ON ENORMOUS COIN

Our back 6 should look like this

Archer Pink Dawson
Hardeman Chom FOS.

We play that back 6 for 18 + games and we will be ok.

Is this going to be the new I'm requesting a trade but I'm not requesting a trade. Jy says I want to play for Collingwood. Merret says I want to play for the Hawks. But they haven't "requested" a trade.
Eat your cake, and have it too (while you are sitting pretty on a huge bags of cash).

The contemporary footballer has to be up there with landlords and real estate agents as the most entitled persons in Australian society.

Over to you W Dawson, Whitlock, Hardeman, Goater and Arch.

We need to sort this defensive unit out, these lads have all shown something and hopefully they step up and own it as they will be getting opportunities.

There is also a spot for Logue if he can get himself fit and firing again - fingers crossed he has a big preseason.

Imagine being the club that had their captains career torpedoed, have same said player for another 4 years on $900k per season.

And received in return???

Well played by Collingwood I’d say, they lose nothing.
I see the opposite. For the first time in a long time, two clubs wrestled control away from players and their agents.

We are comfortable about the money. It was never about money. We held firm the first time, ever.

Collingwood come across as amateurs having gone through all this effort and without even getting their target to instigate a trade.

North lose nothing.

We don’t have to accept or do anything.

But surely you can recognise what Collingwood have done here?

Their passing interest, with absolutely nothing outlayed, has caused a leadership spill within the football club, undermined the current captain, a 2 x B&F winner now starts from square one with the playing group.

I’m sure if the shoe was on the other foot and we did it to * we’d be pissing in each others pockets.

They don’t get a deal done - “oh well”. Jy Simpkin barely moved the needle for them and their offer reflected that.

We don’t get a deal done - “We now need a new captain, we need to address the elephant in the room, need to manage Simpkin all year, will have this narrative follow us all next season” etc etc

How are North a stronger football club following this than 10 days ago? We aren’t.
We don’t have Jy as a captain? He was only ever a placeholder.

"North have backed in their back 6, but not many others have".

Jimmy is an absolute simpleton.
I watched a trade show on you tube yesterday (a different channel 9 thing) and he gave his take on our defence there.
He racked his brains and remembered 4 names from our defence.
He said we have a good young defender in Kallan Dawson. That was his positive.
But the overall negative was that we keep "rocking with" Tucker, Logue and Corr in "the same team."

Needless to say, they only played 4 games together across the season, and none after round 6. In fact Tucker didn't play after round 7. And Corr and Logue only played together a further 4 times.

I doubt whether Jimmy has watched more than 2 games of North all year - but here he is again with his expert take.
And he's nowhere near the worst media performer.
God I hate the football media.

Yeh I watched this as well and it’s 19 minutes of two football in the knows knowing nothing more than the audience and in our case…less!

I don't think we end up taking pick 57.
My guess is we package up 46 and 57 for a token trade up with a club thats looking for academy points.

I'd have Harvey and Phillips fight to death for the spot.
I'd do that trade up, then try and move the upgraded pick into 2026, just take the two from the draft alongside a rookie upgrade.

What has happened last week shows how bad that contract decision was. Wrong player, wrong $$, wrong length. There is a real team and club cancer risk now. Imagine the first inevitable time that he turns back into traffic and gets creamed and/or butchers it and turns it over when we are out. Im pretty sure that crowd will turn. And thats in round 1 with 4 years to go. Jy is an effort player - he may drop off a cliff if he drops effort.
Merrett wont do that - elite skills and devision making. Can play at 75%. Jy cant. Its a debacle. It will take a lot of clarko skill and effort to repair this, let alone thrive. And a lot of jy humble pie which seems unlikely.

his contract will come up in every negotiation with the others so adding to culture issues.
As hard as it could have been to take unders - we should have cut ties.

Its just tiring hearing people around here saying that his contract isn’t that much any longer because it was front loaded. FFS its still around that 1m dollar point, its worth so much the wobbles were having to put in another year to fit him into their cap.

This rubbish he’s on < 800k is utter bullshit. I would not be surprised it its actually 1m a season x the next 4 years.

But yes, I would have bit collingwoods hand off for their future first pick. But now we are stuck with this campaigner for at least another season, spreading that toxic shit throughout the group.

Might get a bit of hate for this one but the more I think about it (and I may be losing my mind) but I feel with the one list spot not needed to be used in the draft, we should be keeping Tucker. I had that pegged for Maley but he’s gone. I’m just not bullish on the upside of Payne or Harvey and I believe that Tucker is a fine back up for the purposes of next year. Can play a variety of roles and is a great trainer. That being said if we believe there is a good state leaguer that has a similar floor but higher upside, I’d take them.

Tbh I forgot he existed.

Could see him remaining on the list for that reason but do believe we should target a state player

I'd rather we take a DFA either Derksen, Lemmey, Lloyd Johnston or Josh Fahey.

Harry Scott as a mature age taller inside mid would be a good alternative too.

So where do we stand with list spots as it stands right now?

Assuming at least 2 of Tucker/Phillips/Payne/Harvey get chopped and assuming that we lose the two rookie spots....
List size to date:
34-4

OOC:
Tucker
Payne (r)
Phillips
Harvey

Current Draft picks 25,26,46,57
We would need to cut all 4 to take the 4 picks unless we're trading up.

This would be mine based on players being fit at this very, very early stage:

Archer Dawson Hardeman
Goater Combden FOS
Colby Sheezel Stephens
Zurhaar Trembath Parker
Curtis Larkey Spargo
Xerri Wardlaw LDU
Simpkin Duursma LMAC Darling Powell

B: MWhitlock WDawson Archer
H: FOS Comben Hardeman
C: George Sheeze Goater
HF: Curtis Curtains* Harvey
F:Zurhaar Larkey Trembath
R: Xerri LDU McKercher
I/C: Parker Duursma Wardlaw Powell Goad

Em: Payne, Pink, Stephens, Spargo, Simpkin, LMAC, Banch

I never said it made them look strong, but the fact is they were able to dislodge an AFL captain with simply arm length interest.

Again, how at all are Collingwood the losers in this? There is zero fall out for them, plenty for us.
This being the salient point.

Whatever your opinion of Jy may be, (I'm more inclined to your way of thinking), a) we did better than last year b) we as of now, have all our picks for next year c) we didn't roll over

Collingwood will make finals next year but can't win the flag. This is crucial. And why acquiring him was more important for them than keeping him was for us.

In any case, he can't be Captain and can't be in the Leadership Group. He'll receive his wage on time, in full as long as he rocks up to training on-time, in full uniform.

In 12 months time a salary dump (what Collingwood obv thought they were getting) will be on the table from somewhere.

Keep Tuckers and rid ourselves of Cooper, yeah I dunno.

Ghee harsh 🤣🤣🤣 I would like to think I’m relatively smart but fair call. Not a fan of Cooper hope he proves me wrong just don’t think he gets to the required level of effort given his lack of athleticism for his role, Tucker played every game in 2024, will work hard and do a job just no upside. I’m sure there is a state leaguer out there who can do a similar job with maybe some more upside? Tom Blamires/Jackson Voss from Frankston. Tuck knows the systems though.
