I think a lot of people would be more in on Curnow if Sydney was his number 1 option.
I’m with others who don’t think it matters that much.

I think Curnow and Petracca showed other highly paid, contracted players how to extricate themselves from their club and contract. First and foremost they wanted a change of scenery. They sounded out a few clubs.

If Zach Merrett had done similarly he might have achieved his desire to get out of Essendon.

None of them are Rampe types as you put it. Rampe was 183cm. Serong is 194cm, Edwards 197cm, Snell 194cm, Andrew 193cm. not all forwards are 200cm. Only 7 in the whole comp. Tilthorpe, Darcy, Ben and Max King, McKay, Neale, Chol, The rest range between 191 and 199, Most tall forwards are in the 192-196 range. I don't think any of our Key Backs are in the Rampe undersized range at all. I don't care who is untried. You have to try them to see if they are any good. The other thing is truly top quality key Defenders don't grow on trees. See what happened with Essendon, they thought they were getting Stephen Silvagni in McKay, who they got was an interceptor who is pretty shit at defending. If you take away Stewart's intercept game he isn't much good at defending either. True lock down defenders are rare as Hen's Teeth,

We have Tommy and Melly, both have played the majority of the last 3 years. Edwards, who until injured last year was developing very nicely as a key Defender, and his opponents rarely hit the scoreboard. He is 197cm and about 100keg. He's a Big Boy. plus the bugger can really play. He is incredibly strong and makes me think of Reg. But you probably don't know who Reg is, you might be a bit too young.

Ok. We'll leave it at that. I don't see any star dust back there, I see a couple of good solid players but no one who commands the defense. Outside of Edwards, there is no threat to their position either - IMO. I like Edwards as a prospect, the theoretical is impressive but he needs to put it all together.

I don't know how old you think I am, but I've got a decade plus on Grundy and my first visit to the SCG was nearly 40 years ago

We are getting hung up about the price we paid for Curnow but being able to trade with picks two years in advance has changed the system , we will see a lot more of it. The first rounder for 27 will blow out big time with Tassie in.
Wasn't fussed either way about Curnow but cautiously optimistic now. Still think our biggest worry is our midfield which can get rag dolled at times. Serong I am hoping will really give us options down back and we need Snell and Edwards to push for senior selection this year.

Updated list.
  • nine players traded and delisted
  • 3 players traded in
  • updated 2025 draft picks
  • list of 2026 draft picks
  • list of 2027 draft picks
  • 3 main list spots
  • 2 rookie A list spots
  • 1 rookie B list spot

This is awesome, makes it simple to know what's going on with the list after trades lol. Thanks Rusty!

The reported initial offer of Hayward, Florent + 2 firsts for just Curnow and a 2nd rounder feels (felt) a far worse for us than what eventuated. Even though we sold Florent for way unders, we got way more picks back in the 2 eventual deals than our proposed one.

I was super pissed with our initial offer, glad they rejected it, because what eventuated was more bearable.
I know we gave an extra 2027 1st rounder, but unless we absolutely crash and burn it is a 1st rounder in name only.
Feels like they rejected a better deal just for that 'look' of 3 1st picks, idk?...I they're somewhat chasing points, so I'm sure someone will crunch the numbers and it equals a good deal for them, but the first deal was definitely way shitter deal for us even though we gave up the extra first in the eventual deal(s).

I mean we still gave a lot and I will maintain that it's what Rosas and Serong go on to do that will determine the success of the trade period. Provided Charlie stays somewhat healthy we know what we should expect to be getting out of him.

It will feel wrong to see Will & Ollie running around in that jumper though. I seriously hope non of our fans give them the booing them we play them....and you can almost pencil us in for 2 games against Carlton next year now. Infact nothing would be more eye-rollingly predictable than if they were our 'opening round' opponent.

Yep …
If Edwards can stay fit and fully embody his inner Reg, the whole backline issue resolves.

I just read an article that Oscar Baker from Western Bulddogs is unsigned . I think hes a really good player. I dont know whether theyre going to recontract him but if he became available in a rookie draft?

Being able to know what is in your academy pipeline 2 years out is actually a GIANT advantage.

You can take the upside of Curnow NOW and only pay the cost of that in 2027….

Who mentioned Pick 3? What the **** do we want pick 3 for? We need the lower pickS, 20 onward for our Academy Boys. I sad; THREE FIRST ROUND PICKS WE GAVE FOR CURNOW, 2025, 2026 AND 2O27 PLUS HAYWARD. We already had a 3rd rounder for Florent in a separate deal.
I didn't say we want pick 3. I responded to your claim that we gave up the most for any player ever – we just didn't. Pick 3, pick 20 and Kennedy for Judd was a bigger price than what we paid.

We will finish top 4.
If we did not have so many injuries this year we would have made the eight easily.

Yep people forget in truly what was a "horrible" year for our standards with performances and injury we still won 12 games.

Its Brisbane and then daylight GC midfield will be really tough to contain but aside from these teams the majority of top 8 sides went backwards or didnt improve.

Saints will take time you cant just mesh 7 new players together and expect it to click.

Its objectively hard to measure right now with future picks being traded, Carlton already have a deathride thread created!

We could end up giving the most ever for a player or not.

Exactly what the Carlton guy said after the trade. They know he's a first rounder

Add the two seconds together that equals a late first/early second. In our needs that’s what we need. We’ve basically turned Hayward into one of the bids

That is pretty much me in the last day. I hated the price we paid for Curnow. Hated it.
But then I looked at next years and the years after draft picks. I have hit a calm period.
Curnow was the best we could do. He was the only FF worth a crack. There was nothing else.

I am actually OK with it all. I am all in with the Swans decision to do this.
And it is against all of my usual feel right isms which are usually right.
Getting 31 and 42 this year from Carlton more than repays the 2027 first rounder we gave them. Without those two picks, we would have had no chance of getting all 3 of the academy kids we want.

If we are forcing out players of the calibre of Will Hayward and Ollie Florent, I reckon we have a pretty good side.
