Nah - he didn’t relinquish the captaincy when shopping himself nor did the club ask him to - yet the minute he goes his former club ‘didn’t have his back’? What because we didn’t want to overpay the guy? He didn’t need to have a swipe at loyalty on the way out. Good riddance
You think the club wanted him to hand in the captaincy and perpetuate the narrative of a club in crisis? You think they haven't been subtly telling him to explore his options? Th meetings coming out were unfortunate but nothing was happening that the club wasn't happy to have happening. You'd be naive or one-eyed to think otherwise.

As for people talking about overpaying, his current worth is whatever Brisbane are paying him. Yes, the Eagles may be in a different position and therefore wanting to spend elsewhere, but that doesn't reflect on Allen.

There's no point being bitter over someone who has absolutely put his body on the line for us and did us a solid on the way out, getting us pick 2.

So where does he play if not in the ruck?

Waterman Shanahan forward

Flynn Williams reid ruck/bench

Young edwards back.
Waterman, Shanahan and CDT as tall forwards. Archer as ruck/fwd.

The mobility of all 4 of those guys and the 5th bench spot should help offset playing an extra tall.

Only way it works unless we see Archer start to train as a KPD in this off-season, or he starts to take the #1 ruck spot(unlikely)

We aren't playing three full time key forwards AND 2 rucks.

Agreed. I don't know why he feels the need to whack the club on the way out the door.

And if he wants to have that conversation he should have the honesty to look at the issue from the club's POV. He was very highly paid for the last 5 plus years and grossly underperformed relative to the size of his contract. And then he wanted an even bigger long term contract. If Brisbane want to pay it to him then good luck to them. But don't dishonestly dress up the club's reluctance to give him another monster contract (after being burned on the last one) as a black mark on the club for being disloyal.

I don’t begrudge Allen looking for and ultimately accepting a better deal. Nor do I have an issue with him looking forward to a future at a premiership contender and of course they’re going to make him feel wanted - that’s what clubs do when they’re trying to recruit a player from their opposition

But to bemoan that the club didn’t have his back is pretty lame. He’s been talking to Brisbane about a move for at least 12 months and he naively met an opposition coach in person mid season. Discretion would have been wise especially when his own form was poor at the time

He might also want to look in the mirror and reflect on what he gave the club by way of support in his final months. Was basically a ghost once injury ended his season leaving all the heavy lifting to Duggan. Don’t recall seeing him helping out in the coaches box on match day for example.

Could have handled that interview better but he’s not shown particularly good judgement in recent times so it follows the same pattern - like being videoed doing a butt chug at schoolies a month before his draft

even if he performs we won heavily. He would not be part of our next premiership and #2 was massive overs. Also a cultural clean out with Ryan
This might sound dumb but I’d include McGovern in that cultural clean out. It always seemed to me like he’s a purple circle kinda guy. It might be the Albany links, that’s what that place can be like… it’s probably an unfair statement

Yes, this sounds dumb. The guy won us a flag after a week of internal bleeding.

I'm not mad at Oscar. The only thing he did wrong in my book is take the captaincy this year. If you're not fully committed, don't be the captain.

I used to listen to Coast to Coast every week when it was him and Thumper, and he comes across as a charming and confident guy, but he used to say things sometimes that were really dumb. Some people have never been taken down a peg in their whole lives, like the prettiest girl in the room. Everyone is kissing your ass 24/7 so you live in a bubble. That's a bit how Oscar came across to me, the perpetual golden boy.

Good luck to him, hope we kick Brisbane's ass next year.

Honestly, I do kind of get the point he/she was making. Love the Gov probably as much as any Eagle ever....and at least he earnt his way till the end unlike most the other "leaders"

The older brigade really did have an entitled vibe to them after the flag. Getting a fresh new set of leaders is absolutely the right way to be going

basically he is upset that people who dished out big contracts had left the club and feels a victim for missing out.

Get Clohesy & Phillips. Nuff said.

Quite amazing how many young inside mids are being delisted this year though. Phillips, Hobbs, Dev, Schoenberg, Fin Macrae, George Stevens (promised a rookie spot though).

One thing I've noticed is none of these blokes are particularly quick or have many more facets to their game than pure inside mid. Two of these were taken inside the top 10, and some thereabouts too.

Remind anyone of Sharp?

Good teams realise that you dont want someone who is only an inside mid when good players can play inside and outside. If you cant play outside as well these days, you are a seriously limited and a liability.
