My only knock on White, and maybe its just what I think I saw versus stats, but he missed too many gettable shots. For a team that seems to make scoring so hard, missing pretty routine set shots just makes it harder for the whole team.

Yes, same here. Thought he was getting a better conversion rate towards the end of the season.

Don't mind seeing him further up the ground on a wing for example. Would prefer to develop his attributes than keep relying on Acres tbh.

I saw White at an open session at Glenelg before Gather Round
& the thing that stood out to me is he has a cannon of a left foot.

He can smack it 55 metres, he just didn’t have the confidence to do it in games.

That’s a development thing.

100%.

My gut tells me we should persist and I like my gut it's more often right than wrong so the club should just do that.

How do you know he doesn’t have both?

And, they most certainly are connected.

Educated guess based on information I received in private re his "issues" and the fact that I actually work in the mental health field with both addicts and those with actual diagnosed mental illnesses.

Diagnosed mental illness like schizophrenia and 'mental health issues' where you can pick up some Prozac from your GP in a 10 minute consult are not remotely the same thing.

Yeah looks like it. 8 out and 5 in so far with at least 2 for Dean and Ison.

I guess we're keeping Fog and Acres (both contracted 26 and 27 respectively) although Both will find it tough to play seniors I would have thought.

Boyd and Wilson (both 26 I think) will be two others looking over their shoulders next year as well.

Things I love about White are his speed, can take a grab, has a tank, reads the play well and finds space especially forward, good enough kick and absolutely plays with 100 percent passion.
Wilson 20yrs old, only 2 seasons completed…

Very surprised to hear you say that

There is a small chance Elijah is delisted and then placed on the rookie list.

The club is starting to make good decisions, albeit some of them are to fix the bad decisions of the past.

Binns is not an AfL footballer. He isn’t coming back to the league ever. Paying him is the right decision to fix a bad decision to offer him a 2 year contract.

Making Elijah fight for his career with us this pre season is also the right decision. If he is serious he will get a spot, if not he’ll be on the scrap heap. Also other clubs don’t get a free shot to pick him up until at least the mid season draft.

White is a little bit unlucky, I would have paid out Fog - another bad decision to offer a multi year contract - who were we bidding against, but he still has a chance to prove himself if he is good enough.

Carlton first.

Agree 100% on white and fog. Would much rather us be paying out fog and persisting with the guy that's still a chance at being a good forward. Agree on the club making good decisions too for the most part.

Don't think anything we've done prevents clubs from taking Lij before mid season draft though. We might offer him the chance to train on and hopefully be picked up. Any other club can still offer him a contract though. He's currently delisted.

Where does it say Lij has been delisted? Certainly not on our website.

He's contracted. Unless there's something we're not aware of, he'll either remain at the club in 2026, or will be paid out AND therefore delisted.

It is a weird situation though, I can't recall another contracted player that has been a train on.

I wish the club statement had been clearer, but both White and Elijah have been delisted. They must have been. There's no other way the statement makes sense. And for Elijah, that will mean paying out the contract.

It's implied. List lodgements are due on the 31st. If we want his spot open for the draft (which it seems we do), he needs to be off it by then, hence delisted.

They didn't specifiy delisted for White either. I think they were just trying to use more positive language.

There is no such thing as a contracted player that is train on. Not possible. For all intents and purposes Lij is uncontracted and in the same situation as any other train on player except he gets payed either way.

It's a valid point....in fact it's an extremely valid point....in fact very extremely.

List lodgements by the end of the month means that Lij can't be a train on as a contracted player.

It does make sense though. His contract paid out, so if he gets re-rookied, his base payments fall outside of the salary cap. Clumsy, but realistic.

Can we stop conflating these things and putting them together. He doesnt have mental health problems, he has addiction problems. They are not remotely connected.

Its high time professional footballers stopped using "mental health issues" as a mask for their often illegal and criminal acts i.e. assaults, DV, drug issues etc. Its AFL/ Club/ Player Manager PR Policy to wheel out " mental health issues" when a player does the wrong thing. It's disgraceful.

It does a massive disservice to those players that have genuine mental health issues.
You are typical of people who choose to put the boot into people with problems without trying to understand the facts behind their story!!! Mental health problems are why these people try to "escape" the so called "real world" by using drugs, gambling, booze or smoke like chimneys just to take their minds off their problems, and also to block out the heat from so called experts that are just ignorant of that person and what they are going through every day. It is not a choice, it`s a human weakness that you have to somehow manage 24/7......the only person that really understands their plight is their mental health professional, and they can only guide them through all that stuff. The best thing anyone can do for them is to just hear them out, not judge them!!! *29 years of depression helps you to empathise with others better.......

If we are trying to fix our culture, and Elijah is allegedly bad for our culture, then why not just cut ties. Club first.
Culture is a broad term to describe what the fabric our club is made from.
It encompasses how we as a club treat people and our commitment to help individuals reach their potential.
The club has shown very clearly that players need to adhere to their side of the deal by terminating his contract whilst at the same time providing an opportunity to work through challenges.
It is a complex set of circumstances and a black and white set of parameters doesn’t always suffice.
Who knows what has been said, agreed upon, what assistance has been offered and taken, and I imagine having a brother on the playing list adds to the complexity.

This is the part I think most of us disagree on.

We have an obligation to pay Elijah the terms of his contract, but when?

I just assume that Elijah will just keep getting paid over the preseason and throughout next year, as if he was listed. Unless we wanted to pay him out and include the $$$ in the cap this year.

I see it similar to when a contracted player like Oliver or Grundy is traded, his previous teams aren’t required to pay out the balance, they just pay what they owe or what they negotiate.
