Carlton have trades lined up for pick 9 and 11 but will wait to draft night just incase the bid for Dean comes later than expected.
Smart business, they'd look silly if they allowed an early bid to swallow two top picks and leave a whole bunch of points on the table with the change that would be left over.

Imagine a bid comes and it's only like 20 points more than their pick 9. What a shambles it'd be if it cost you a whole pick 11.

Who here can make the case for Sullivan Robey as a top 10 pick? Almost every draft board I see has him right up there with Duursma and CDT. I’ve done a bit of a deep dive today and I cannot understand it. His marking ability looks elite, but the rest of his fundamentals seem to need a fair bit of work. There is a lot of buzz about his 40-touch, 3 goal game against the Jets but the video won’t get you out of your chair. No opposition to speak of that day.

Couldn’t be happier that the bombers are shaping to take him early, leaving more talent for the rest of us. He doesn’t belong in the same league as a player like Dyson Sharp, in my opinion.
Would be a real shame if Essendon had another top 10 pick go to waste.

Especially since their own stubbornness in the Merrett dealings has likely cost them pick 1 to reunite the Duursmas.

That is not how it works...
11 is 1329pts
12 is 1268pts.

20points reduced from 11 means pick remains Pick 11. What we want is Dean to be picked lot earlier. They also have just under 200 points with their pick 43 & 54.

They don't want to go into a big deficit that affects their 1st round picks next yr. They likely need 2 first rounders if Cody Walker goes in top 2-3. A big deficit will mean their 1st rounder vanishes, especially if its a teen one..

It is in other clubs interest to bid early on Dean. If not, it is quite likely they transfer pick 9 for a F1 trade( could well be North). That gives them 2 1st rounders to match for Cody.
If we did that then we'd have essentially moved Worpel, CJ, our second rounder and our first rounder for North’s F1.
Given Blues plans, this 9 to 10 trade may end up biting us too. Quite key Dean is bid on early & swallows up pick 9 and pushes 11 to late teens.

He is not top 5 material unless a top six team gets him, plonks him deep frwd for a goal or two. CDT is miles ahead in talent. In fact should be pick one.

Preferences so far. But, my number one hasn't changed for us .
Farrow
Hibbons -Hargreaves
Marsh
Dovaston
Cumming
Two of these would be fantastic for our immediate and long-term future.
But, I don't like that Farrow is getting a lot of attention though.

We could just concentrate on the forward line and go Dovaston and Marsh, even though it’s not a huge area of need, I think thats probably best available at those picks

I will do what you ask and make the case. He has demonstrated an ability to win his own footy, be first receiver so a balanced mid and also hit the scoreboard. He has done this in a stacked team that won the GF. He has grown 18 cms in 2 years, so has had little time playing in his current body, but a lot of time being a smaller midfielder who needed to make it with smaller midfielder skills. he now has those ground ball skills but in a big midfielders body. He kicked 4 goals in the Gf with a broken collarbone. He has had to work his arse off against the odds to even get drafted let alone bolt up the board. He’s a total competitor. And he did all of this despite having no functioning brain given he supports the scum.

How was that?

Although I think we still need a Poppy type, I'm starting to really prefer Farrow. There's just something about the way he moves in the vision I've watched that should translate well to an AFL player. We don't need a player to impact straight away, and can give him time to build his endurance, body and midfield nous.

Preference of players likely to be available is Farrow --> Dovaston --> Lindsay --> Barker.

I'd then take the Poppy type with 22. I'm a massive fan of Talor Byrne's attack on the ball and defensive application and he should be available due to this size. Latrelle Pickett has some real tricks but I've been a bit underwhelmed by the consistency of his performances.

Love Farrow and Dovaston no to Lindsay one dimensional. Desperate for Oskar Taylor and Cumming. Taylor Byrne we could slide for but with you love him too.

Unfortunately, I think we're in an awkward spot for both of those players. Cumming is likely gone earlier than our pick, and Taylor is probably slightly after. Cumming has some fantastic traits but I also think he's a player that could struggle in a poor system due to his low possession numbers. I'm actually not the biggest fan of Taylor due to his kicking, but the athletic profile is hard to ignore.

I really hope we don't get put off by Byrne's size and risk the slide. Kid is quick, has skill, and cannonballs into contests. Scoreboard impact wasn't the greatest, but he also spent significant portions of the year as an undersized midfielder. I have no idea why he isn't talked up more.

Agreed more like a top 6 pick and a 10-15 pick to get them.
Taylor’s kicking is very good have watched a lot of him including several games so your comment surprised me what are you seeing I’m not?
On your bus with Byrne would suit us but then we could slide to a 30s pick.

When I watched Taylor, I felt he had a bit of a tendency to blaze away. But he's also the player I've probably done the least research into. I probably shouldn't be making such assertive comments about him before that.

Take another look you have a good eye keen to see what you think he’s a bolter but he’s Merrett like but faster would be sweet if that’s the karma result post trade period.

Robey looks like a good, versatile prospect here:

Good size, strong mark and tackle, versatile mid/fwd, athletic and probably still growing at 192cm already.
I can see the appeal tbh.
Not sure how he measures up against his peers.

Sam Grlj - looks great. What are the arguments against?

Fast, loves a dash, wins his own ball, can rebound out of D50, courageous with and without the ball, works hard to provide an option to teammates.

He's kind of Isaac Smith with a dash of Karl Amon.

I thought everyone was raving about Oskar Taylor’s foot skills and distribution?
