TL;DR - still 4

HOK upgraded, good for him.
So this means we have opened up a rookie spot - we were previously maxed out.

Suggests to me we are definitely taking 3 in the draft and leaving that rookie spot open for EH (or whoever else beats him to it).

We definitely won't be adding EH back to the main list. He had his contract paid out so that is done. His best case scenario is a rookie spot now.

He should never be signed to more than a 1 year contract ever.

Looks like he will be left waiting unless another club picks him up. I like him and would love us to find a spot for the young man, but the signing of Reidy and a shortage of spots probably leaves him in limbo.

Hopefully stays with our VFL program and continues to develop, hopefully getting more sessions with the AFL boys. Mid season draft could become an option if a spot opens up, but one would think we need KPD coverage with HOF down for most of the year.

O’Keeffe came back huge after last off season, but was lighter in our first training footage. Clearly we have decided he is forward first. With his history of soft tissue injuries, it would seem we have decided to slow or limit him bulking up.

We have a season to assess the pecking order with Pitto and Reidy, then future list requirements can be identified, along with the development of Flynn Riley. While not an athletic jumping ruckman, the extra couple of centimetres Riley has, may be a positive with the revised rule interpretation.

Edit: Zac Harding may be in a similar boat. Not sure if he stays with us if he does not get drafted. Under sized for a ruck, but has decent forward craft, and we are likely to need some tall forwards in the twos.

Cheers for your detailed response.

Looks like 6k down at the same time last year.
Gonna be a lot of fence sitters until the 2026 season starts and we can see how we're travelling then. If we jump out of the gates and thrash the Swans and the Tuggers, we might see a massive jump in numbers.

If the club is doing well next season, after the loss of TDK, Curnow, and that Jack guy, the fence sitters will be off the fence quickly.

If Lij does have a spot with his name on it (subject to conditions), and we are still seeking to add Phillips (which I personally would), then it suggests that HOF goes on the LTI.

But it’s firming up that we want to take 3 at the ND.
Not necessarily.

We may take just the two picks, trade anything else of value for a future pick. Then upgrade another player (Lord) to fill out the senior list, and leave two rookie spots (for either rookie draft or SSP). Those two spots could still go the way of Lij & Phillips without needing to put HOF on the Inactive List.

I think 3 at the draft is still more likely, but call it a 60/40 thing rather than 90/10.

Thats a good thing. Hope there are more than anticipated.

The club needs to know that we aren't happy with something other than nuffy calls to sen.

This business of potentially re-rookying Elijah is doing my head in. I can only presume that, as a contracted player, we have had to pay out his contract to de-list him and if we now rookie him we will have to pay whatever the minimum rookie payment is. This would seem to actually be a reward for whatever behaviour forced us to de-list him in the first place.

Why wouldn't it be better for him to be retained and if he doesn't meet the required standards take the action then?

Not sure I'd want these guys handling my business.

edit: Oops think this is in the wrong thread and I don't know how to change it and don't wish to re-write so I'm gonna let it run.

If you get delisted early and paid out, and then get another contract, you don't get the total of both.
If another club picked him up as a rookie, they would pay his mandated rookie contract, and we would only have to pay the difference.

Yeah, fair enough.

I think Phillips is a very long shot to be added as I'm pretty sure he's just not AFL standard. My guess is we start with Weit and Dean and backup from Young and Gov - and Kemp if we get desperate.

We needed to free up list spots otherwise we couldn't count the points from all 4 draft picks in the draft.

It's part of the rule change to stop GC bid-matching with 7 picks in the 40s when they only had 3 free spots on their list.

Plus the termination payout would factor in the possibility of getting re-rookied. No way he's getting paid extra.

It was really bad contract management by the club that we had to pay out 2 contracts to free up enough spots even though we lost 4 players.

Nick Austin has run the list management team at Princes Park since taking over from Stephen Silvagni as list manager in 2020. Carlton poached him from the Western Bulldogs, where he was a highly rated recruiting manager under Sam Power, following six years in the recruiting team at Richmond and three years as opposition analyst at Port Adelaide, after initially starting at the Whitten Oval. Austin is the son of Carlton great and former Fitzroy coach Rod, who worked for the AFL for more than 20 years as football administration manager. National recruiting manager Michael Agresta has been at the Blues since 2018, following a seven-year stint in the same role at Sydney. Former North Melbourne list manager and long-time Champion Data analyst Glenn Luff returned to recruiting last year as a part-timer with Carlton before being added full-time in 2025 as recruiting operations coordinator. Brent Manson is list strategy manager at Carlton after more than a decade in performance and analytics roles. Jake Fuller is the south-west recruiting coordinator for the Blues.

God I want Moir to step up another level next year. He could really bring another level of polish to our F50 entries.Totally

I agree, he has a lot of flair and you could see his hard work beginning to show.
Really glad both Hayward and Ainsworth have arrived to mentor him and Jesse.
Spot on
Voss gets a decent forward group...now
Moir and Motlop need to go next level in 2026...
Voss has 3 months to make it all come together.....and sustain that thru 2026
He is going to earn his money !
Need Dean straight in and contributing to maintain defense with Newman back
Need Jagga into midfield all season contributing
Need forward system ovehaul working in sustained way, even with genuine talent won't be easy to actually do I suspect...

I suspect this new group including Dean might be slightly stronger than this years

If Voss can figure something out he will survive

I'm not sure if he's up to it but I really do want him to be the next premiership coach.
He has the right 'Vibe' , just think he needs to let some of the ego go, which would be pretty hard to do when it has served you so well as a 3 time premiership captain.

Oh how I want Riley on our list… proper ruck and a decent kick
You and me both. If we can get him on the list, he's the reason why I'm not at all worried about losing TDK. Riley and Skull will be a great ruck combo for us going forward I reckon... if we can get him.

Clearly they thought he wasn’t up to it for now and recruited Reidy. Riley had a couple of poor games at the end of the season

Yeah Riley only a couple of months older than Skull, a baby in ruck terms. Did a great job as no. 1 in the Ressies for much of the season, but still needed a chop out, and definitely tired under the load. Skull/HOK missed a bit of footy and then was repurposed as a forward first. Still think he has plenty to offer long term, but few rucks are drafted before maturity these days.

Hoping Reidy lives up to some of his highlights and transfers WAFL impact to the AFL. Pitto is good value, but a bit limited. Also not sure how he copes with the revised rules. Not getting any younger either and a little injury prone. Thinking Reidy was a decent option, he is in the Meek and Cameron mould, maturing mid twenties and hopefully with opportunity can somewhat replicate their influence.

Depending on the development of Reidy and Skull along with the resilience of Pitto, the likes of Flynn Riley may be a good addition mid season if a spot opens up.

Interesting sidelight is a bit of chatter around Alex Mirkov being looked at by other clubs following the rule adjustments. Nit sure how his form has been since leaving us.

Goal a game for Ivanhoe in VAFA Premier B, they went top of the table on percentage and then out of the finals in straight sets. He was in the best most weeks it seems, but in a pretty cruisy competition, with Cuningham and the Naish boys in his midfield.

As much as I like Alex Mirkov, I think Flyn Riley offers more if we were to rookie list another project ruckman. I saw the finals he played and whilst he was good just think he doesn’t have enough ā€œshit in him-and aggressionā€ for AFL. šŸ¤”

Mirkov was delisted last year?
