Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Sorry? I don’t think so

I have an addiction to nicotine and coffee, love a line or a scoob every now and then and have a slight red wine drinking problem.

But I look on the light side of life the vast majority of the time as do a shed load of others with my “addictions”

I’m sick of drug taking being put in the mental health basket, it’s unnecessary and wrong to do that
All of the above

We would get along fine

I wouldn't be to concerned with the rumoured pick trades. Austin has shown he is pretty good in this area.

We seem to be one of the very few clubs that the media generally get wrong in terms of Intel on deals.

They had zero idea of the play for pick 3 and were flabbagatered with the details of the Curnow trade. Zero idea of the side trade of Florent.

Wouldn't put it past us to put these out there to garner more interest in the picks.

I’d rather Pat Voss and either or butters/Humphrey over king.

I don’t want Butters or think we will get him. Very good player but the cost will be massive (Port will match) and restrict us in so many other areas.

By the start of 2027 he would be 27 with 4-5 years Maximum at the elite level. Gets injured a lot as well

I am hoping we keep building and developing from within. Jagga Walker Dean HOF etc is the way of the future. Young elite talent for over a decade in Navy Blue

Keep topping up with good team role players

I like what we are doing. It’s logical.

We don’t have many spots and we can get some extra picks next year. Why waste pick 9 or 11 on a player we will get anyway?

Next year we have a heap of players out of contract, a heap of picks, will get Walker, and have massive room in SC

Need to think of this as a 2 year project/reset.

This year we have done well and will top it off by draft period 2026

Forget Butters...

Port will 100% demand our 2026 1sts... you think they're going to let him go for picks in compromised drafts when they're chasing Cochrane next year who's a potential #1 pick?

I (and I'm fairly certain Carlton) don't want to sell the farm for 1 player who will not be the difference between winning a flag or not...
Your logic is sound RE compromised drafts but Port will have Pilot (NGA), Salopek (F/S) & possibly Rodan (F/S) in the ‘27 draft who are all highly rated at this stage so we’ll be pretty aggressively chasing picks in that draft too. Opens up possibilities for all clubs really because like you said everyone else will want to trade out.

I come in peace and feel free to dismiss this but I can tell you from a very solid source that Ben King will be at Carlton in 2027. It is why we would not trade Walter and why you let Charlie go (in part). You won’t get Humphrey or anyone else but King is going back to VIC and won’t play with Max
We have 12 months to prove we don't need Ben King, otherwise we may have to consider this.

The problem with ^ that argument is that it largely depends on the constitution & mental state of the person indulging.
It IS a bigger issue if addition runs through the family bloodline.

But yeah, the 'AFL Professional' community have no problem using it as a scapegoat for nearly every case where it's publicly 'outed', whereas it was all just a bit of fun and no-issue beforehand.

Strange GC didn’t just try for a straight swap - King into Curnow

Yeah I'm aware of the 27 prospects. But it will be a lot easier to get 27 1st rounders than 26. You won't need to let Butters go for them.

No doubt you'd want one from us in a hypothetical trade, but the demand would be something like our two 26 firsts + a 27 first. No way we're giving that up and no way Port accept 2x 27 firsts + 1x 28 first and that's all we'd be willing to give up.

One way it could work (though I very much doubt it'll happen) is, you accept a FA compo pick for Butters. Let's say you finish bottom 5 next year, you get pick 5 and then pick 6 (also assuming no fa compo changes next year). Those are the two picks for Cochrane. Now, part of that is a handshake agreement that we'll give you 2x 27 firsts for a player not really part of your plans who wants out anyway.

So it's essentially, Butters + a fringe player for ~pick 6 + 2x 27 firsts.

The other parts to this are, Butters will unlikely want to come to us anyway. And second, I doubt we'll be in the business of making an offer he can't refuse...

Would be a horrible deal for us.

We maximised Charlie’s value in the free market to get points/picks to set us up, while still knowing we could potentially target King as a F/A get him only for salary (keeping our bounty from Charlie).

If true that is.

Good thing for both our teams that those blokes arent there anymore

we are rivals but i still reckon it was super unprofessional what both Dodo and Jsos would so just to spite one another instead of focusing on their respective clubs best outcome
SOS and dodo are great mates and would have known very well when we were going to pick SOS’s boys.
It wasnt spite it was to showmanship!

I get that from our pov, from GC pov though….

I think Rodan is a chance to join Essendon isn’t he?

Especially taht pick 11 trade with north

Yeah would rather stay in Melbourne apparently which is fair enough. Only way it’d happen is if the AFL tightened NGA access and he didn’t qualify and didn’t want to risk going to Tassie…..but given Dougie was just added to ours I don’t think that’ll be happening haha.
