You'd really want a cleverly constructed contract or be very certain of his future intentions if you were going to pony up serious collateral for Sanders.

Why. If you put a 5 year deal in front of him and he signs. Where is the risk. if he wants out part way, he is under contract and club he wants to go to needs to pay up. Also, if he did pen a long term deal with us if that was the player and we convinced him to come, why would he do that if he was wanting out?

I'm getting over the media stating we should pick Mitch Marsh for a replacement for Tex.

I personally do not feel Marsh will become a undersised tall key forward. I see him becoming like a taller version of Alex N.B with a good left foot.

And I think he is likely to find decent midfield time in 5 years.

Where Mitch's best football will be, I think it's unknown

None of those bar Rankine are zippy, crumbing small forwards. Given we want Rankine to have decent midfield minutes, it's probably our biggest need outside a quick, ball using mid. The amount of time the ball was on the ground in our forward line during that Collingwood final and we had no ground ball presence...we win that game with Rankine or a quality crumbing forward in the side.
Even a fit rachele

Given Cumming and Sharp are likely to be long gone before we could even entertain trading up in the draft, I can't see us doing it this year. Personally it seems like a good option not to. That future first might come in very handy next year either in the draft or in the trade market.

I also don't see us taking Marsh. Just doesn't seem like the right fit for us. I think we would go for Oskar Taylor if available or Harley Barker.

A lot of good judges see Mitch Marsh as a tall wingman/high half forward with his tank and penetrating kick.
.
Isaac Smith anyone?

My take on Hamish's comments:

We are very prepared to trade our 2026 1st to move up this year. There's someone we want.

However... "we really like next year's crop of SA draftees" is a lie to retain the value of that pick in any swap.

Also that way fans won’t complain when it doesn’t happen

Well..... it is tomorrow anyway.

But stay safe.

That hail was in a very narrow band, you were unlucky to cop it !!!

Considering there has been talk of us going smaller in the post-Tex world (at least on this board), and Marsh has potential to be a third tall forward, it's not a particular stretch to see a fit.

Cavanagh has us taking Marsh.

Also another to link us to Ludowyke.

Ludo is an interesting one…great size and should fill out with his big frame, reasonable athlete and a fluent albeit inconsistent kick. Willing to apply defensive pressure too. Also very young, turns 18 on draft night.

Still prefer Marsh by some way though and that’s without considering the local factor.

Ludo is prone to double grabbing and a real confidence player. For a bloke his height he drops too many marks.

I get it, the head honcho's at the club have got withdrawal symptoms for letting go the big easy and want to relive that dance

Assuming Twomey's is the only phantom worth any salt?
ESPN's 'full draft' phantom has us taking Marsh, and then nothing else. Not even a mention of what happens with our other picks. Curtin not taken at all.
Can undrafted rookies be taken as SSPs?

Cal's "Late Mail" phantom is usually on the money.

Personally I am excited about Mitch Marsh and think he would be a great pick if we aren’t able to trade up to get one of Dovaston, Sharp or Cumming.

I am concerned though that Twomey also has us linked to Ludowyke, who absolutely reeks of BUST. Please no.

If we were to take Schubert or Thredgold, I wouldn’t hate it, but I prefer Marsh.

Barker is very tempting. I prefer him over Schubert and Thredgold also.

Farrow seems like a weird list fit for us but I do like him as a player.

I also really like Dovaston and O Taylor but Dovaston requires trading up and there’s just too much smoke around Taylor to GWS for it to not eventuate.

I think I’d probably summarise our draft like this:

Dream Scenario 1st pick:
1) Trade up to take Cumming (less than 1% chance in reality so barely worth mentioning)
2) Trade up to take Sharp (2% chance)
3) Trade up to take Dovaston (10% chance)
4) Draft O Taylor (15% chance of being available)
5) Draft Marsh (75% chance of being available and seems the most likely and logical pick)
6) Draft Barker (will be available)
7) Draft Thredgold (likely available)
8) Draft Schubert (likely available)
9) Trade up to take Farrow (seems like a bit of a waste to trade up for him as he’s not a real “need”, but there’s no way he lasts until 20ish and he projects as a solid player)
***Anything else = no thanks

Dream Scenario - 2nd pick:
1) Retain next year’s 1st rounder and trade a combo of late 2025, 26 and 27 picks to trade up to get a second player mentioned above

2) Draft T Byrne (assuming we miss out on Dovaston)

3) Draft B Ooudshorn-Bennier

4) Draft M LeRay

5) Draft F Burmeister or another athletic ruck

*** Avoid Cody Curtin in the ND - he’s rookie list / train-on only material and gets fluffed beyond belief by many Crows supporters because of his surname.

a unanimous prediction that far in the draft is rare, copying each other?
